So, writing this after another away day blank where the match was as dreary as the weather it perhaps doesn’t feel as joyful as finding ourselves sitting second in the table should feel. It will be a brief stay in the promotion spot though as regardless of the result between Brentford and Swansea one of them will go above us.

Anyway, we go again on Monday, yes Monday, WTF is all that about, thought we’d left this nonsense behind in the Prem! Fortunately, my social calendar is relatively free at the moment so I will be able to endure another 90+ minutes of quality entertainment.

The bright spot for this being that we welcome our near neighbours, QPR, to fortress Vicarage Road where we have mostly been successful so far this season, albeit often without being convincing.

    QPR

I know some of you on here feel that there is some heated rivalry between our teams but I must admit I’ve never really felt it, I’m not convinced they have either. Always just seen them as another no mark championship club that stutters along year after year without any actual success apart from a spell getting spanked in the big league a few years back, a sort of southern Barnsley.

There must also be a small place in our hearts for them as they finally popped Lloyds cherry at the 269th attempt. As the T-Shirt said, I was there.

Going back a few years the only thing that piqued any interest in them at all was that half their team was made up of ex Hornets, usually after we had finished with them so was nice to check how the old boys were doing. Our promotion to the Premier seemed to put an end to that, we got better players and they couldn’t afford them anymore I guess.

We will however be welcoming back one of our old boys in manager Mark Warburton, former trader and head of the Watford academy. Had a decent spell with Brentford after flying the nest but not done much of note anywhere else, odd fellow, seems to fall out with the owners rather than being sacked on performance, how long before he falls out with his airline tycoon owner at QPR is anyone’s guess.

    Danger Men

QPR lost Bright Osayi-Samuel a couple of weeks ago, he was probably their biggest threat, so that leaves these two:

    upload_2021-1-27_16-43-0.png upload_2021-1-27_16-44-31.png
Lyndon Dykes the tattooed antipodean and Ilias Chair the little fellow that scored against us at their place. Despite our disappointment with the goal return of our own forwards these are the joint leading scorers for QPR with 5 each, less that both JP and Deeney Pen. However probably the best they have.

They have also recently brought Charlie Austin in on loan from West Brom, annoying whinger, not been quite as good over the last couple of years but has pretty impressive goal returns wherever he has been. However, if he does play I really just want a bit more of this:

    Architecture

Not much to say here really except that they seemed to cunningly disguise their ground as 1970’s council offices, nice.

    The Match

Amazingly we actually start this game 20 points ahead of QPR, they currently head a mini pack of 5 teams just above the relegation spots, currently 17th on 27 points but that could get worse by the time we play. 7 points clear of relegation though and with worse teams than them around they will be OK this season.

On paper with our home form this surely looks like a comfortable home win, so with JP back in for Grey and an actual winger playing on the left wing I will go for:

Watford 3 – 0 QPR (JP, Sarr and Doyley diving header).

Guess we will see Pedro in for Gray and little else in terms of changes.

I think this is the game where Gray is finally going to come good , show us his true ability and hopefully kick on and have a great second half of the season.

Is Dykes a big fan of early Renaissance maestro Giotto?
He appears to have a halo similar to the frescos in the Scovegni Chapel, Padua.
Here's hoping for Rodney Marsh and his take on Michelangelo's "David", Terry Fenwick with "The Last Supper" and of course Les Ferdinand with " Boy with a Basket of Fruit".
Will this also be shown by Merchant Ivory?

Quarter Pounder Rubbish match again. We generally beat them, it's going to be a cold Monday evening in Hertfordshire but I do not think this will be the home banker many would think.

Chair made us all sit down in class in the reverse fixture despite having a really good start, we sat back for 70+ mins and the outcome was obvious. Plucky side with a mixture of good to average players who work hard. I have no personal issue with QPR as a club, they seem to be happy in the Championship, never getting near the playoffs anymore.

We need to win this, and Gray can stay at home writing his wedding vows. Zinc must start, Pedro needs a full 90 and Hughes needs putting back into the middle. Masina was toilet last night so I hope he improves Monday.

Try not to look at the table until after our game, you may feel depressed as everyone overtakes us playing beforehand.

    2-1

Put your house on Charlie Austin scoring against us, it's absolutely written in the stars. As 'Watford-y' as it comes.

Is it me or does Watford vs QPR (or, QPR vs Watford) always seem to get picked by Sky?

I'm going to be bold and predict QPR give us the odd scare but we ultimately grind out a close win without getting out of second gear.

Gray is the only thing in the universe with more predicted comebacks than Bitcoin.

Unlike Bitcoin, he's yet to prove any of those predictions accurate.

The second half away at Rangers was as bad as I have seen a Watford side play for a long time. At home we should have too much for them as long as we play a left winger instead of Cleverley or Hughes and we drop Gray. If we win this one we will have taken thirteen points from our last five games, which is very good going.

Do we not have a game on the monday!?

I'll be missing this then as ir clashes with rehearsals for a play that I probably won't get to stage.

The thing is Xisco said before Huddersfield that Perica might be available, then it was announced he wasn't back until early Feb. Xisco is a pathological liar.

I would describe them more as a has-been like Nottingham Forest and Ipswich - all of them had long and impressive spells in the top flight, but for the last two decades they've mostly been making up the numbers in the middle two divisions. Clubs like Bristol City, Reading, Millwall and Preston (who've won major trophies, but they're all so long ago that virtually no one who can remember any of them is still alive) are to me no-mark clubs, though Bristol is a great place and deserves a top flight football team.

Last season wasn't that long ago...

Sorry, I had a brain fart and thought you were talking about Tuesday's game! Yes, I can see why you'd think the second half at QPR was up there, even with the horror shows we produced last season.

The Lee Cook derby. Losing Samuel is a big loss for them and can see them coming here and parking the bus. I hope Sema is back for this one as we have missed his direct running. We should have another to do this lot over.

I'm going for 2-1 to us.

This is THE red letter day, the waiting is over - it has to happen sometime- Gray AND Deeney Pen to score in the same game.. to break the logjam and a torrent to follow.

I feel it in me bones - well lubricated atm.. yes siree..put yer ouse on it, it’s gonna happen I tell yer .. that’s André Gray AND Troy Deeney-Pen to score.. in the SAME game .. yes sir ..
