Sarr has played pretty much every minute for us when fit, as has Toney for Brentford. He probably would have started the vast majority of games for us as well given the clear extra quality he has over everyone else. Joao Pedro is just not ready yet to be a regular starter at this level, I've said the same since before a ball was even kicked this season, he's still too lethargic, young and inconsistent.

As for Sarr being "brow-beaten", it's not difficult to understand why he might be miserable - it only took 4 minutes of the game yesterday for him to put in another excellent ball across the face of the six-yard box, but with Troy inexplicably standing on the left-side of the penalty area nearer to the corner flag than the six-yard box. We've seen already in the few minutes that Perica has got that Sarr will create plenty of chances for a half-decent striker, and it would have been the same for Toney had he been signed.

Presume this is addressed to me but can't view post numbers on phone.

It's ok to call Ivic a "vile, negative, joyless man" but if someone points out that there is no way that Eddie Howe is going to join our basket case club you take it personally? Ok then...

Forgot to add, wish the ****s in the Rookey who booed the players taking the knee would stay at home and not attend again.

You’re entitled to that opinion and you may well be right, but if you start a reply to somebody’s post ‘I don’t know how many times this needs to be said’ then that is patronising, superior and totally unnecessary.

So stop it now. It’s not impressive behaviour, and I’m not putting up with it. I would never ever do that to any of your posts.

Ivic is negative and joyless. I’d challenge you to find anybody who disagrees with that.

SLB was right though, Howe would never come to us.
    You also called Ivic "vile".
Stop being so sensitive if someone disagrees with you.

I see you've dropped vile from your description of Ivic so at least you accept that was over the line.

The football is rubbish but how much of that is down to Ivic and how much it's down to the players that he's had available this season is open to debate.

But to spit out vitriol about him being a negative, vile and joyless man (not coach) is over the top.

And you say he's out of his depth but you also say that you don't think we've got one of the best squads?

I’m not over-sensitive if people disagree with me. I just don’t appreciate being patronised. The poster may well be right with what he wrote, but that doesn’t excuse the way he wrote it. My wish is for Eddie Howe to join us and I have no wish to have that put down by others acting all superior. My name appears by the post and therefore clearly it’s my wish.

I’ve seen nothing of Ivic in any of his interviews or pitch-side manner to suggest he is anything but negative and joyless.

How about Deeney as player/manager? The player/manager role seems to have pretty much disappeared from football but I reckon our portly talisman could make it work if he had an experienced assistant alongside him. And who would be better as the 'old hand' than Mr Aidy Boothroyd? He could do it part time and keep his cushy number at the FA. Ivic out!! Deeney and Aidy in!!!

When the handball law changed I think they decided these shouldn't be automatic yellows.

And if you get a chance to see the Sky replays from head on of the Kaba/Toney tangle, you'll see Toney was going away from goal and basically threw himself to the floor once he clocked that. There was enough in it to say Kaba fouled him by grappling him upper arm/shoulder, but it a slightly before Toney actually went to ground. Yellow was the right call there for sure.

I think we should have moved on from Deeney long, long ago. But we haven't and despite recruiting a lot of players, he still is arguably our most effective striker. The fact we haven't moved on from Deeney and a lot of others is why we have stood still and ultimately gone backwards.

Think it was probably that we had no money to spend but if we had I'd completely agree, Deeney's hardly going to plead with his best mate to get a much younger, better alternative in to take his place!

I think most of us would like Eddie Howe so you’re by no means alone in that, but it’s a bit like suggesting we should sign Danny Ings in January, so doesn’t add much to the debate/discussion.

I don’t think that’s fair , in the first half he was all over the pitch helping out and trying to get the team going , he was winning a lot in the air but nobody was there to pick up the second ball, he was also helping out in defence and midfield , ok not what we want our striker to be doing , but was necessary. I have often wondered if it was time for him to slip into a midfield or even defensive role.

I agree he isn’t effective as a lone striker, we need 2 or 3 up top, but think if Deeney wasn’t there in the first half we would have been 2 or 3 down.

I’m not a massive Deeney fan anymore and think he has a lot to prove but got to give credit where it’s due.

As for the penalties at leat he puts them away , although bound to miss one soon

I saw an interview with O'Neill which suggested Stoke seem to be on the look-out for a striker in Jan with Campbell now injured - that would seem like a viable move somehow for all concerned.

100% , I think his performances have gone unnoticed but he seems one of the few players trying to drive the ball forward and get it into the box , we look most threading on his side , Ngakia and Sarr link up well on the other side but inevitably Sarr is at the corner flag looking to cross in and nobody is in the box

Sadly poster 508 the same could be said of your reply to me.

    But never mind.

The forum has always been full of superior beings and I know my place near the bottom end of the food chain.

Still at least only another three days to wait until the next demonstration of joyless negative football.

The big problem is that Deeney does some of what you mentioned in the first part of your post #510 above but doesn't do what we expect a striker to do, which is score goals, and getting in the right positions to score goals would be a start. The odd exception (like Saturday) is not good enough, it needs to be regular. He cannot continue to have chances put on a plate for him. He criticised the young players at the weekend for not understanding what he does, but maybe he should show a bit of empathy himself and do what those players want him to do, along with every WFC fan, and get in the mixer, find space or create space, take gambles with runs to the posts and use his physical presence in the box against relatively poor defenders. That is what causes defensive errors and lapses in concentration, and creates chances. As it is, he trots around ineffectively, moaning at the players for not fitting in with him!

yeah I guess the role he is now playing isn’t what he is employed to do, I would really like to see him play where challobah does , this would give him the freedom to get forward, but also roam the pitch as needed

I have no idea who you are or what you've done with the usual Going Down posts, but can we stick with this chap please? Absolutely spot on with everything you've said. I noticed the movement part when I went to the game last week. Maybe it's not as noticeable on the TV. The two centre backs get it and have no options in front of them until Chalobah wanders over, gets the ball and gives it back. The difference Capoue made tonight and Hughes did against Rotherham shows how desperately we need them both back and fit.

I'm pretty sure it used to be only a deliberate handball was a foul and so it carried (in theory) an automatic yellow card. Then when VAR came in with the 'making the body bigger' thing they decided some accidental handballs were still fouls but not worth a yellow. At least I think that's right.

Come on Ybot, you can't seriously be suggesting that Deeney, a career centre-forward who has never in his career even played in midfield, let alone as a defensive midfielder, and is famous/notorious for being immobile, can now suddenly switch to playing there in the middle of a supposed promotion campaign?!

Christ, a real christmas miracle if it happened, but then again being in the same league they have presumably scouted him and therefore are fully aware they shouldn't touch him with the world's longest bargepole.

It really is an issue when considering any potential sale; there is not one aspect of his character on or off the pitch that would encourage a club to pay money for him.

Given his wage I wouldn't be surprised if we'd let him go on a free just to get him off our books.
