Though if Deeney had really wanted to waste time while on the pitch he would have tried to keep the ball in the corner utilising his bulky frame from our later corner, instead of passing it back to Garner.

Just want to say many thanks to whoever posts the game into Dropbox.
Here in Canada the guys who have the rights only show a handful of championship games each week. Focus, not surprisingly is on the Prem. However as they have the rights the Hive can only put out audio.
So being able to watch the full game, albeit retrospectively, is much appreciated.
    Cheers!

Troy putting the scummer in a neck brace was one of the highlights of the game, no idea why anyone has a problem with it as it brought a derby game feel to the match.

Been thinking the same question, something we obviously will never know but I think he may of struggled the same way. Stepping in at this level with players leaving that don’t want to play so he knows what’s in front of him (maybe) or stepping in and trying to motivate the mercenaries that were available could of been a step to far for an unknown coach that maybe some players would of not given much credit too.

I feel the same way about your comments. There's a reason Ivic spoke about creating a new culture at the club. Ivic is creating a strong team mentality which we didn't have last season. Under Troy's 'leadership' last season he was 'the main man' 'Mr Watford' the "talisman'. He even became a 'coach' for the last 2 games. His 'leadership' style failed spectacularly. We shouldn't have been relegated last season, it was a failure of leadership from Scott Gino Giraldi and Troy. No one wants to take Troy off us so he will do his best to ingratiate himself to Ivic then try to undermine him if he isnt picked, as well as undermining the captain and the other strikers until he returns to the top of the hierarchy. I believe his behavior is pathological. I dont think he has much control over it. I think Ivic is building something special here, Troy's mentality is the opposite of the culture Ivic is creating at the club. It's gonna be painful watching our new team ethic being undermined by an over paid, out of shape piss head who thinks he has a divine right to lead the club.

I respect the points you're making. We are talking about what is or isn't gonna happen in the future. We'll see what happens as the season pans out.

I dont think anyone could've solved the problems in the dressing room last season. Ivic's decision to separate the committed players from the wantaways has been the foundation of our good start this season. The way we play as a unit is incomparable to last season. There's been a completely different mentality in the squad. Younger, hungrier, more motivated players who respect the manager. It's a breath of fresh air for the club.

Agree with all that post, except the very last bit, as I've not no indication that he is a piss-head these days. But I repeat what I said just a couple of weeks ago, I think Deeney is a poisonous presence at the club, and I hope he goes quickly. I think that our younger lads, like Pedro, Dele Bashiru, Quina, Ngakia, Sarr, Garner, Wilmot and Philips, have all shown that they are more than comfortable mixing it and getting stuck-in on the pitch where it matters, without an egotistical, thug-like, club captain showing the way.

No problem with it what so ever, the way I seen it was that Troy was looking out for one of the youngsters. It was just a little shove and he wasn't in any danger of being sent off, however he let the Luton lads know they can't take the p**s.

If he plays in this formation he will finally get some service and then we will be able to see if he can finish. Two years of having balls lumped over his head doesn't give much indication either way.

That’s been denied by anyone associated with the situation though hasn’t it? Even Leventhal backtracked on a podcast from his comments.

I just can’t fathom anyone who didn’t see his actions at the end of the game as anything other than brilliant. Best thing he’s done in a long time.

Let's not forget the fact that he had missed a good amount of sitters and more often tha not he fluffs shots. Although he may have turned into Aguero with the the formation.

Have to say, I agree entirely - as a vocal critic, it's exactly what we would ask of him. In a way the debate is emblematic of where his relationship with the fans is at this point (and he bears responsibility for that), but at any other team and in any other derby it would be non-existent, and universally seen as the perfect way to conduct yourself during a derby as a leader and senior player/captain. It boils down to a young, exciting player, new to the club, getting 'attacked' by a riled-up opponent and the captain taking action to make sure that riled-up opponent knows he isnt at liberty to do so without repercussion in a way that put him at no real risk of censure/a card or punishment.

Pedro has scuffed a few this season as well. It is what strikers do. Scuff some, miss some, score some. I don't recall Gray missing loads. Granted his first touch can be that of a trampoline but give him some decent service and he will score plenty. That through ball Deeney played against Leicester for a last minute winner was typical of the service he has been starved of. West Ham at home similar.

I know it is still popular to slag him off regardless, but I don't recall a lot of missed chances because our woeful play in general over the past 18/24 months has created very little.

True but Pedro's overall game is better than Grays. Agreed it is popular to slag AG off on here and this has been justified by his performances, he has missed plenty of chances and he can't control a ball very well, his build up play has been genuinely quite poor. Having said that he did well against Spurs so happy to be proven wrong this season.

Gray is far from a complete striker, and has obvious flaws to his game but the way we have played since we signed him has only served to accentuate these flaws and make him look far worse than he is.

Gray misses chances, but so does every striker, and because of his movement he gets on the end of ten times as many chances as Deeney.

Exactly, although it was 4 years ago, Gray was the Championship top scorer when he got promoted with Burnley. With the right style of play he could excel, when he returns from injury and without the additional pressure from the fans he may well work out well with Ivic's style.

Cleverley saying the captaincy is on a game by game basis and Troy is the natural leader.

Fantastic to beat those mutants up the road but it was a bit of a damp squib really. I didnt even feel the urge to launch myself into the pond at the end or anything.

If we could have played that starting 11 for our matches after the restart last season we'd have stayed up.
