Watford FC 0-3 Brighton & Hove Albion - 10/08/2019

Well, Watford showed that inflexibility yesterday, but normally, under this coach I thought we'd looked more flexible than with previous coaches. A coach, of course, can only deal with the players at his disposal. If that was the main limiting factor yesterday then there is a strong need for some different players in the starting line-up. I know he's not everything, but Cleverly comes to mind; you know he's going to put in a shift. I like the look of Quina, but maybe he has been thought a bit lightweight for the Premier League - I don't know. Obviously, also the inclusion, as soon as possible, of Welbeck and Sarr. Move Hughes more centrally - I think he has been unfairly criticised by some on here.
I've defended them against this before but a couple of players did look as if they are suddenly too old. I'm not sure about Deeney in this respect because I thought Brighton had done their homework and he was marked, played and tackled out of the game.
If the coach is thought to be at fault: A) I'd wonder why he is suddenly no good or B) Are the players responding to his exhortations sufficiently?

 

How was the 1881 section moving central?

 

We were all excited about Pendz until we saw him play. Hopefully our first impressions were wrong

 

Dunno. But there seemed to be a whole new singing section up top central of the Rookery yesterday. Largely ineffectual in getting others involved though.

If you're asking how they got shifted there then I haven't a scooby. But I was told that they had been and the evidence yesterday was that that was correct and the lower section of the previous 1881 were posted missing.

Would you willingly move? I doubt that I would.

 

Gracia last Season did show some flexibility in setting up his team. He changed for a time to 4-2-3-1, with Success spear heading the attack with notable games including the 2-0 win against Wolves away and the noteworthy 2-1 loss to Spurs in the Cup. I wish he showed that little bit of nous early on this year to show he sees this. Success or Okaka as lone target men offer more than Deeney does, but in a pair of strikers Deeney still offers more than either of them, even if he was one of the worst players yesterday.

 

From the family end I could hardly hear our singing / chanting at all and the Brighton fans seemed to sing quite a lot. But on Sky highlights couldn’t hear them at all and heard our fans quite a lot.

 

Maybe it was just me but I laughed when I saw the result. Wonder how that looked from the Rookery.

 

From the LGT, Brighton fans were unsurprisingly loud and we were fairly quiet.

The defence is useless and will continue to be, but in front of a back 4 this is by far the best side we can put out:

No, it's based on the fact that Hughes, Deeney and Gray are all ****.

But Grays got 82 pace on FIFA .

 

Only Deeney there however. Now not previously. Gray surprised me last season whereas he was indeed sh.t in 2017-2018. Hughes is a very good footballer but he ain't a right winger.

Seeing as you're keen on a 4-3-3 like me (I think) here's a good formation. de Gea. Alves, van Diyk, de Ligt, Marcello. Kante, Modric, De Bruyne. Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez.

Cost? Get real.

Look. About all this negativity v positivity stuff. I love our football club. And have done for well over half a century. As well as having an equal love for the natural world despite what ever else is going on around me.

I think the biggest problem with our defence yesterday was our poor attack. We barely laid a glove on their defence. Our attacks frequently broke down due to poor passing, which put us under pressure. They increasingly attacked us with more freedom, as they knew we were not firing going forward. I am not sure we can do a lot with the defence, it is what it is (not very good). But we can surely do a lot better going forward, which will help us at both ends of the pitch.

 

I trust Mr HH is taking you out for a meal some time soon then.

We need Djokovic back, he wasn’t afraid to change up the tactics when they weren’t working.

 

Our crowd will only ever get going when the team is playing well and I include myself in that. The 1881 will never change that but they can enhance and co-ordinate the atmosphere when the team plays well.

 

Well someone at the club obviously does. I got sacked by Mr Messenger as a Roadie because of being identifiable on here around sounding off around the Silva sacking. My mistake? Being identifiable. Kelso. Same on here as those who know me at the club. And I did have it coming.

No hard feelings now. We get on fine. Same on here I trust.

Looked to me that Brighton started 3-4-3, Potter realized after 10 mins it wasn’t working & so changed to 3-5-2 or even 3-5-1-1 for a while with Murray in behind Locadia. Their wing backs were told to engage with Femenia & Holebas as soon as we got beyond the halfway line, so that stopped one of our default attacking outlets. Then they had 2 floating midfielders who perpetually picked off our other main tactic....the ‘thread it through the eye of a needle’ ball into Deeney/Gray...so the 4-2-2-2 is clearly so easy to play against now that oppo coaches have sussed it. We need a formation change as a matter of urgency when the other side flood midfield. We could have been more adventurous & pushed Deeney, Gray & GD fully onto their back 3 to see what happened. But 4-2-2-2 doesn’t allow for that.

 

I hear they holiday in Tuscany and Provence but expect them be back in September .

 

Great analysis but beyond me. I'm still stuck in the camp that believes that if we stick eleven players out on the pitch that are better than their lot then we'll beat 'em.
