So the COG position is going to be rather than admit they were wrong they are abandoning being a full time football fan because its boring now and the problem is with society as a whole?

    Blimey, that escalated quickly.

The "Enjoooy the game" group on Facebook turned down my request to join last year (I only wanted to see it for myself), maybe because I referred to Richard Short as a ****** on a public forum as some point in the past. If anyone is in the group I'd love to see some screenshots of the most idiotic comments today.

100% agree. I can't help but admire Burnley in that respect, even if most of their footballs pretty turgid (but then again, so is ours right now). None of their players are particularly technically-gifted, but every single one of them fights like their life depended on it. They sweat blood & never give up.

Some probably feel we have no money so we aren’t able to get too many mew players (mainly due to poor recruiting and a wage bill far too high for the players we have ) but I am sure no one can be happy with the performance last night and the continued lack of goals and displays from highly paid professionals.

Are you suggesting that fans shouting "BLOODY HELL!!" at the players doesn't work?! I find that very hard to believe

Probably insisting Xisco be given more time. Gray will come good. Automatic promotion is still on. Deeney is getting slimmer. Gino can do no wrong. The same usual dribblings. Welcome to our visitors Gloucester City c2030 etc, etc.

My point really is just that because we got ourselves into a more favourable position than owners like Baz, etc. That doesn’t mean we just need to accept every single bad decision the owners make. We’re at a sliding doors moment now, if we don’t go up (which we won’t) we’ll actually be in a worse position than when they took over, so anyone saying ‘well, they’re better than Baz’ are living in a fools paradise.

Yes they gave us five years worth of memories at a level higher than Baz, etc. but they’ve also made a series of completely avoidable mistakes that they are on the verge of complety reversing and putting us into a period of 5 or so years worse than when they started.

To me it feels like Gino had decided that the best way forward is to put Udinese as the main club once more.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is looking for a buyer

Yes I understood your point. I was just stating that a comparison to a man who won the lottery and then spunked it all was over-simplistic. We were always going to be relegated one season, good decisions or bad. It just so happens that a number of poor decisions contributed to that being last season but as I've said before, a season battling for a euro spot and getting to wembley made them conclude that relegation wasn't a possibility. As Sheff Utd have shown this season, it only takes a few poor results for a successful squad at a small club and confidence goes and a downward spiral is difficult to recover from if you can't spend your way out of trouble. I'm sure they wouldn't have bought Sarr if they'd realised how close they were to the start of that spiral.

Ivic was precisely what the club said they wanted in their summer statement, but when they got it they decided they didn’t actually want it after all.

Yes the football was boring, but that game last night was at home and at least we won at home under Ivic.

I wanted Ivic sacked because it was clearly only going one way, but that was because the club clearly weren’t going to back him despite deliberately choosing him to be the manager.

I think our best chance would’ve been to write this season off and let him have a chance to sideline the problem players and bring in all the ones he needed.

I think he'll look for a buyer this summer if we don't go up. The value will be a fraction of what he'd have received selling us as a prem club, but at least this summer he can point to further parachute payments....

By putting Udinese first we eventually will benefit from their surplus as we did from 2012-2015, but it will take time for that to have an effect.

If he is looking for a buyer, that ship has largely sailed as the debt makes any sale unlikely.

It is hard going back to being "Udinese B" but there is no way a bizniz man going to turn his back on the next Ighalo and Richarlison deals in a hurry.

Ivic had a system at Tel Aviv and it was fun to watch. Attacking, solid, goals. He had a system and didn't like to deviate from it. I assume that's why he was appointed, for that system.

After playing that system all preseason, he suddenly has his legs cut out from under him with players sold whilst living in a fog of war about their availability. He never had a chance.

That whole first month of the season was absolutely wild and in the end, a shape of things to come.

I think we could’ve avoided relegation for a lot longer if the owners weren’t so arrogant and stubborn. The chickens are now coming home to roost because they underestimated certain key things within football and overestimated their own knowledge and ability.

Managers - they view this role with almost complete contempt/disdain. They’ve underestimated their importance and it’s cost them dearly. What else demonstrates their view of a mangers place than appointing someone with 11 games in the Georgian league? Basically they treat it as a clerical role and it isn’t, a completely avoidable mistake.

Players - where to start with this? Most of all they’ve grossly underestimated the importance of a goal scorer, or in fact they’ve been completely blinded by how much their existing strikers cost. Gray cost £18m, we don’t need another striker, let’s keep playing him. Deeney is on £70k per week, let’s just keep playing him.

All completely avoidable mistakes due to arrogance/stubbornness

Not too sure what you mean by this but I think we'd have been down within a season or two given we were operating on the smallest playing budget in the prem and despite that were racking up significant debts. I'm sure we will never achieve another 5 year run in the top flight in my lifetime.

. We don't have funds to buy a proven goalscorer as replacement, nor to buy out their contracts. Due to covid we are stuck with them as no-one will match their current contracts. Stipe is injured and looks lightweight and Pedro is a young striker getting decent game time.

Well they’ve made a series of glaringly obvious errors that a lot of fans could see, even not making half of them and we’d have comfortably survived.

Don’t forget we had ready made replacements on our books for problem areas in the squad that wouldn’t have cost a penny, but relegation meant we lost them. We’d have automatically been a lot stronger next season without spending a penny.

That’s not also factoring the bottom of the premier league this season, it’s absolutely horrendous and I’d be amazed if 30 points didn’t keep you up.

Not been this angry at Watford since the end of the Zola reign - I remember leaving his final game vs Sheff Wed at half time it was that bad. If I was there last night I would have done the same.

I'm not sure you can be a fan of a football club and 'not care'. If you don't care, you're not a fan IMO. But you can certainly be a fan and not think it is the most important thing in life, or worth getting either too upset or excited about.

But it asks the question would the result last night have been the same with the fans behind them and at the same time the risk of them being barracked if they had put in the same sloppiness and seeming lack of care after going ahead?

It wouldn’t have disguised the problems at the club but you can’t deny the impact lack of fans has had on our league form/performances, even if the home form has been excellent beforehand, it’s been worth at least several points a season.

Charlie Auston last night said on Talksport he would have expected with fans at the ground us to be much more positive...

And you can see many home teams seem to struggle.

We have a good record - maybe more by luck than judgement?

I don’t know, he’s entitled to his opinion like all of the rest of us but that post with its abundance of exclamation marks and poor grammar and punctuation looks scarily like I’ve gone into a time warp and back 15+ years when that kind of seemingly drug-addled posting both on the Watford official forum and the very early days of here was much the norm. His username says it all.

To be fair, a lot of you lot were predicting we'd be relegated at the start of the season, we're 5th and still have a chance of promotion.

I'm generally not happy with the club atm, but some of the stuff you read on here is way too much. To be completely honest I think a lot of the problem is the communication. I personally wouldn't be too bothered if the club came out and were honest and said we don't have much money, we're going to have to cut our cloth and rebuild in this league for the next 2/3 seasons, but they haven't, they've given unrealistic promises.

I'd much rather we reset, came up with a proper strategy to build a team over a few seasons that could compete in the PL. When you look at WBA or Fulham, it doesn't appeal to me too much.

Yes - saying we want to get promotion and have ambitions to achieve it probably mean a few maybe expected money to be spent with a number of players coming in to make up for those leaving.

We definitely have left ourselves short in some areas.

I don't suppose they will admit they are publicly hamstrung by the wages and lack of revenue?

And sacking a coach every 3 months isn't the answer.

My main worry is that what we're seeing now are not "mistakes", they are practically all we can afford to do. That situation is 100% down to the previous errors made, but I honestly do not see anyway out of this mess until 2022 when the crazy contracts end. Hopefully we'll not be in the 3rd tier by then, but what a 5uck up to even have to think about that.
