Hello all, I was wondering if any of you could reply to this thread with your favourite Watford FC moments. If you have a link to a video then it would be greatly appreciated but if you do not then it is no problem, please just write the moments. I hope that this thread brings back nostalgia to some of you who may have forgotten the best moments from the past. I like to spend my free time uncovering hidden videos online of football moments, not only from television angles but also from unseen perspectives recorded from the stands. I find that these 'unprofessional' videos reveal something much more emotionally powerful than what a television perspective provides. With the moments that you provide me with on here, I will search and find some high quality content wherever available from the video archives and post them to the Twitter account that I have created to show these moments. If you have posted your favourite moments on this thread, expect to see many of them on my Twitter account in the upcoming weeks here; https://twitter.com/Footyments Thanks for your time, Footyments
There have been some great moments, but only Harry the Hornet winning the Mascot Grand National really stands out for me.
To paraphrase Barnsey when talking about scoring those goals against Birmingham in the '84 FA cup - they were goals scored "...against TC...". Harry didn't win the Mascot Grand National - he beat that verminous fox from Leicester. In your face @Filbert.
Harriet the Hornet looked f******. Is this why Harry dumped her ? Any Chance of reconciliation - we are supposed to be a family club..
This is one of my favourites, I was behind the Watford goal as this developed. The depression as the ball bounced towards the goal, watching QPR's Furlong spinning away celebrating in front of the QPR fans to our right. Then, the ball being plucked off the line, us going up the other end and Ashley Young hitting the back of the net, QPR going quiet and all the away fans going ballistic. The roller coaster of football fandom in just 60 seconds. I know it is similar to others like the Leicester Playoff situation but this was great especially given our rivalry with QPR during the 2000's. Edit: sorry for poor quality video, best I could find on Youtube.
It was probably filmed on someone's mobile before you could get phones that could produce videos of decent quality at a good price. I remember a lot of people posting on forums videos they'd taken at matches and uploaded to YouTube back then, and both the video and audio were without exception atrocious.
Yes - Leicester's Jordan Stewart according to the BBC - I imagine many of our fans wished he still was! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/4908192.stm
For those of us who came from south of Watford (I was Eastcote) QPR was THE rivalry for many years - at least back to the 60s to my knowledge and particularly in the 80s when Venables was their manager. In more recent times we have rarely had long spells in the same division as them like we used to.
Deeney's goal vs Leicester was fantastic but nothing will ever beat this for me for the sheer shock it represented at the time. I remember radio 2 were interviewing someone at Villa Park and a massive cheer went up in the stadium as the AV fans heard the Watford score.
Still makes me laugh now. There was some Rangers **** in a sombrero sitting right near the Watford fans who had been giving it large and got some fearful afterwards. Was that the game they scored a comedy own goal winner for us too ? And had someone sent off for removing their shirt having already been booked ? Or am I mixing drunken away day wins at Loftus Road ?
Smart's second v Bolton at Wembley was a really special moment. Wright's goal was better, but Smart's was the moment that victory was cemented. Complete and utterly berserk euphoria erupted in the Watford half of the stadium.
That’s right up there with my greatest moments supporting Watford, at least in part because it was a time of redemption for GT.
Is there a recording of Andy Rankin's wonder save in this game? From memory it came after Luther's two goals.
It came near the end from a Gordon McQueen header, I think. The match was covered on Sportsnight that evening, so hopefully it still exists somewhere. The other thing I remember from the coverage was the highlighting of the dangers of players wearing jewellery during games, in this case a ring worn by Ian Bolton.
Yes. Remember McQueen describing how he was sure it was in until this green blur somehow reached it. Really hope there are full 5-10 mins highlights somewhere. Would be great to see the scenes at the final whistle.
