    Hapless manager and spineless players?

You’re just talking out of your anus. How is the football we’ve played this season hapless? We create chances every single game, there is plenty of fight in the players, as evidenced until the end last night, and we’ve got a stream of young talent either coming in to the team or to come in

What we have to work on is finishing our chances

Just absolute bile - it’s so boring to read

A reminder - this is the best team in world football today - they are so many miles ahead of us in terms of playing staff, you need a very specific set of circumstances to occur to beat them. They do not give away possession. Their movement is ridiculous. They finish chances.

When we beat a team we bemoan the press talking about the fact the other team played poorly, rather than Watford playing well. Does that not work the other way round?

I'd be interested to know what Kasper Schmeichel had to do on Saturday. From my seat it looked like jack sh*t.

What a ludicrous point! He did make the saves and the fans reaction is based on what they have seen - not what might have happened in some parallel universe!

We didn't work Schmeichal but you can't deny that we created chances on Saturday

Well you may think it's ludicrous, but what I'm saying is the overall performance was poor. We didn't press them, we gave the ball away cheaply time after time. We gave them too much respect, stood off and allowed them to do what they wanted.

You have to make the game uncomfortable. Make them sweat. They were walking for most of it.

The way the game ended was what engaged the crowd. Before that it was just dreadful.

Yes, gray just needs to work on finishing then everything will be rosy. Perhaps you're right though, when our young players like sinclair return we'll no doubt start smashing teams out of sight.

And there was zero fight in those players last night, apart from the last 5 minutes (so I hear, I was long gone by then).

Interesting that despite giving up the middle of the park, playing so poorly and generally allowing them to have the ball, we ended the match with only slightly fewer goal attempts per BBC stats (11 vs 15) and the same number of on target attempts (7).

I agree that we gave the ball away too often and that was frustrating, but, on the whole, I think that was a disciplined performance that frustrated an absolutely outstanding City team and nearly brought us a point at the end. That's all.

The difference is every one of the five they didn't put in the net required a top save from Foster. Ederson barely had to move for ours.

Probably more down to our lack of ability to finish well really - Deeney falling over when shooting kind of summed it up!

Man City will generally get their shots on target and force a save although Jesus missed a good one on one in the 2nd half.

At what point did any Man City player look frustrated or pressured, other than the last 5 minutes?

It’s admirable that you want to back the team to the hilt but you’re seeing things that weren’t there in regards to last night.

Spurs are a much better side than us. But our attitude and set-up against them was far superior. In fact it’s been better in all the games we have played against the top clubs in the league aside from last night.

Interesting how different people see the same game in different ways. Yes we could of put more pressure on City and not let them control the ball so much, but I was happier with our display against them than the way we played at Leicester.

It was more frustrating at Leicester watching us slowly not really do much with the ball compared to last night watching us just sit back and try to stop the team with the ball create goal scoring opportunities.

Yes we lost both, but last night was expected, Saturday we should of done much better.

  14. What has really pissed me off the last couple of games is the lackadaisical passing - win a tackle, beat a man, do the hard work then **** it up with a lazy under/over weighted/misdirected/ill considered pass. Doucoure, Deulofeo and Chalobah particularly guilty.

City are a cut above all of the other 'top' clubs - and Spurs, Arsenal and Man Utd weren't in great shape when we played them earlier, so I don't accept that as a valid comparison.
For the record, in the whole of last season and the first 15 games of this (53 league matches in total), City have won 45, drawn 6 and lost twice. Scored 151 goals and conceded 34.
I think last night was as good a result and performance as we could have realistically hoped for.

Tbf even Palace and Huddersfield probably had more shots on goal than us...

Liverpool and Spurs were pretty dominant too - in fact the one game we were in the most against the top sides was probably Arsenal away .

Well that’s where you and I differ. Any loss, against any team - I will never class that as a good result.

Man City are a class above. Shame they never really needed to show that in the face of a team who looked as star struck as some on here sound.

We did well to get out of that game with just -1 on the goal difference. Bring on the snake and rat boy.

Totally agree. We beat Spurs (and drew with them in the cup), we played a great match at Arsenal. We put United under pressure for an entire 45 minutes in the second half. Even Liverpool we held for 65 minutes and caused them a few problems along the way.

I just feel our performances have been on a steady decline culminating in last night. City let us off the hook, and it's the only thing that's masking the issue.

NB. The ref barely gets a mention after last night. Must have done OK. Should have booked Holebas to be fair.

I knew he would be good. He's a decent official. Tierney and Kavanagh are the best around at the moment. It's a shame the others aren't at the level of these guys.

To be fair though, you rarely get bookings in testimonials.

The fact is, our damage was done in the Southampton and Newcastle games. We needed wins in both of those, against truly appalling sides, but managed only 1 point out of 6.

The margin of defeat against Liverpool and Man City, is hardly going to define our season, as I don't think goal difference is worth as many points this season as it was previously.

If we lose our winnable games and then lose our almost certain to lose games too, failing to sneak a draw in some games where we have a shout (Leicester) then we're in a bad run of form. Losing to Man City is as foregone a conclusion as we're going to have, so the size and manner of that defeat, in the longer term, is not as important as the results before or after it.

Bounce back with wins against Everton and Cardiff and then things are groovy, but fewer than 3 points from those two games and we're really on a stinky, stinky run.

Wasn't there a cast iron handball shout against Kabasilly?

Guess refs are only bad when they give decisions against us.

If you put the first 4 games to one side, then the majority of fans would be calling for the managers head. If you then remember the first 4 games, you see our manager has been given a 4.5yr deal. That’s a strange balance to me.

Many people have put our usual winter slumps down to the fact they know the manager won’t last or they don’t like him and can get rid of him. If the same happens again this season, yet the manager has a 4.5yr deal...then the club HAS to invest in January.

I’m still alarmed that after selling Richarlison, no one from the club has even said there’s funds there to spend if we want.

Looked like there were a few yards between them and Kabasele's arm was stretched out and blocked a shot on goal. That has to be a penalty and would have been if there was VAR.

Its not just those sides either, we should have beaten Fulham and should have got something out of the game against Leicester. Our finishing/decision making in the final third or lack there of has cost us. We really should have another 7 or 8 points this season.

Yes, and, actually, if you ignore all the games we've won or drawn and focus on just the defeats, it can be proved that Garcia is doing a rotten job.

Had that been given, it would have been yet another you can add to the poor calls against us. Never a penalty as the ball was blasted at him from close range. But as I said before the match, Tierney is a good referee and handles things fairly.

Fulham could and should've been a one off. One of those freak games where we should've been 4 up at half-time but weren't and ended up drawing.

The writing was certainly on the wall though and it's gone on to show that our team is much more prone to Fulham type displays than Hudders or Wolves type displays.

Playing well and missing chances for a game or two is not that concerning but when you miss 4 or 5 a game, every game, often hitting complete blanks home and away and then, even your performance starts to dip, then it's rot setting in.

Javi needs to show that he able to arrest this slide now and at least get a performance vs. Everton and certainly a result against Cardiff.

    Our manager is Gracia!! :D

I believe he's doing a very good job. The problem has been big decisions at key moments have generally gone against us, plus the fact we keep missing great scoring chances. There's very little Gracia can do about that.

For the first time this season, I didn't like what I saw from the team against City. We were nervous and passive

I thought Gracia's substitutions actually helped the side last night, although one was enforced (Hughes). Quina gave us some energy and quality, which really showed the others up. I got the impression last night players were just going through the motions. Mentally the game was lost before a ball was kicked. That is what disappointed me the most.

Maybe back-to-back games didn't help us, as City made 6 changes. We made only 3. The bulk of our team looked jaded.

We've got a long rest before Everton now, so there will be no excuses next Monday.

It's clear that the reason he was given the contract extension is because he's nothing more than a nodding yes man who will not make any demands whatsoever on the owners, unlike qsf, mazzarri and silva who gave them a hard time over transfers.
