When my parents lived on the Isle of Wight we religiously looked out for clubcard offers as we could exchange clubcard points for Wightlink Ferry vouchers at 4 times the clubcard points value. There was one offer where buying 6 bottles of wine got 25% off, then you got additional wine offers on the bottles that were in the original offer, then double clubcard points on top. We literally drank our way over one summer.

Booting crates of lager around stockrooms, reducing them as they were 'damaged in delivery' then buying them was standard procedure among supermarket staff once upon a time. Hopefully it still is.

My first (non-paper round) job was at Tesco and it was different for us. We only got offered the stuff that the customers didn't buy.

It was ridiculously cheap though - 5p for a full sized baguette or in-house baked loaves of bred, I seem to remember. Great stuff. We used to slice up the baguettes at home and freeze them.

Blimey. There are just 2 of us and we spend about £150/week at sainsburys/tesco though that includes non-food stuff too.

Tesco now have a "colleague store". Anything reduced that had "cs" on the sticker (usually the final reduction) is free to staff after 9pm. Also stuff that is a day after it's sell by date is normally free to staff.

It's part of their drive to reduce waste. A good idea imho.

Zero dogs. We don't seem to buy expensive stuff and we also don't end up throwing anything out ? **** knows where it goes....

I’ve no idea how you get to this figure. There are just two of us (and dog) too, and at most I would estimate that we spend half of that. And this includes regular shopping at Waitrose.

No, but when he boots a case of Peroni, he puts a wicked spin on it and it arcs through the stockroom like the first swallow of summer.

We tend to spend 120-140 per week at Tesco, for a family of four. The higher end is usually only if we are boozing (the parents, not the kids) which tends to be one month on/one month off.

Still amazing how much food is still being wasted by the population at large and how many people are having to resort to food banks in order to feed themselves and their families. A rather sad indictment on society. At least some supermarkets instead of throwing food into landfill now hand it over to charitable organizations for the needy.
