Video Games Thread

So, Watch Dogs is out today, and is getting surprisingly mixed (or at least less than expected) reviews, which is disappointing, as it seemed to be the game that might finally kick start the next generation.

Anyone got it pre-ordered or still planning on picking it up?

 

I'm still trying to find Plants vs Zombies 2 for free.

 

I've heard the graphics and dynamic lighting are worse than GTA V on next gen.

I've been playing tropico 5 though and it's decent.

I've been playing Watchdogs for the past hour or so. It's a bit meh and not what I was expecting really. Car handling is **** as well, can't drive for ****.

 

Pre-ordered it and hopefully it's at home now. Really looking forward to it despite the not-so-great reviews

 

Only been playing FIFA recently, started another career mode with Watford - I'm still on the PS3

 

grinding my way through dynasty warriors 7 on the 360. 8 achievements left to go, been playing this game for the last 4 and a bit years.

 

I'm in exactly the same position mate.

I don't really plan on moving out of this routine for the foreseeable future in terms of gaming. I used to play all types of games. But i don't play games nearly as much as I used to, gaming has kind of lost its magic on me. FIFA is the only game I play these days.

 

Looking forward to getting some Mario Kart 8 on soon.

 

Which game mode/s?

 

Nearly always career mode. I'm not much of an online guy. It's too much of a cash-cow for my liking.

I do like playing other people though. I ocassionally have friends round to watch a footy game on TV, knock back a few beers & then after we'll play some games of FIFA against each other with the usual bets, dares & forfeits in place.

 

That's all I'm playing at the moment, who are you with? Any interesting signings?

 

Playing with Napoli currently. In my 2nd season. I've made wholesale changes in my little time at the club.

I bought a few midfield enforcers. Matic, Fellaini & Marco Hoger. Then on top of that I've bought Juanfran at right-back, Adrain Ramos as a backup striker to Higuain, Rakitic at CAM because Hamsik requested a transfer lol. Sanchez at right-wing, Kevin Volland as a utility player because he can play either ST, CAM or RM. Other than that I've promoted the younger players Faouzi Ghoulam, Jorginho, Omar El Kaddouri to the first team.

Behrami, Hamsik (as mentioned before), Dzemaili, Paolo Cannavaro, Zuniga, Duvan Zapata have all been sold.

It's been one of the better careers I've done so far. Playing on legendary & gave the CPU keeper 100 saving ability on the sliders. This means I have to grind/fight for my wins. Most games are 1-0 or 2-1 wins. You rarely get the odd 4-0 or 5-0 wins but only against crappy promoted teams like Empoli for example.

What about yourself mate? What are you up to?

 

Sounds like a solid team! Fair play for using legendary, I tried but just didn't enjoy it so went back to world class.

I'm in my third or fourth season with Watford, finished 5th in the BPL last season. Only noticeable outgoings was Deeney to Southampton as he requested a move, board sold him for £3m ffs! Sold Forestieri to a lower Seria A side because him and Fabbrini are so similar but Fabbrini is so much better, currently got an OVR of 80.

I resigned Hoggy as he always seems to be great on FIFA. Other noticeable signings include Babacar from Fiorentina (he was out for 4 months after getting injured in a simmed pre-season friendly fml), a young guy from Man City called Jordi Hiwalu who is basically Anya but can finish very well. Also recently signed Alex McCarthy, Sam Byram, Jake Forster-Caskey, a young Spanish left back called Guerrioa or something and an 18 year old Portugese centre back from Blackburn who is 6ft6.

My typical 18 man squad looks something like:

Nice, I like it! Alex McCarthy is a good shout. Could do with someone like him IRL too you know? I like how you've bought quite a few young players & integrated them into the first-team picture too, good work.

The only thing that worries me in that team is Big Uche as the impact sub. I've played many seasons with the 'Orns & know that Ikpeazu is sadly crap in-game.
Tell me when you upgrade to someone better lad.

 

Got Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance for PC. The game is fun as it's mental, but I do find you just button mash then **** out of my controller. There is a sort of combo system etc. but it's actually more fun just to hit 'y' (360 controller), send the guy flying and then slice him into paper thin wafer.

 

Yeah I like seeing how high they progress! And yeah Ikpeazu does score a few headers but he's not good enough, I've also still got Jakubiak as I wanted to give them a chance but they won't make it. Did plan on spending big on one or two top players, maybe a striker and a CAM... Any ideas?

 

What's your budget? It all depends on that really.

Played Watch Dogs for about an hour last night. Seems pretty promising.

Seems very much like Assassins Creed but in a real time setting and without the building climbing etc.

Good enough for me.

 

On my FIFA career, I used a Billionaire take-over on Accrington for my 1st Season and invested all of my money on Youth Scouting (5 Judgment and Expirience) Over that season I signed ~15 wonder kids (92-94 potential) and signed Ross Jenkins to help what was a very low stanima and speed midfield. As they all got a lot of game time, their ratings after 3 Seasons are 70-75 (and around 18-20 years old) and I'm looking to romp League 1, while always signing a few more wonder kids. I've lost 2 due to being Johnny Big Bollox syndrome and pocketed £5 million from those.

Still have £100,000 Wage and £20~ mil. Budget at 90:10 ratio.

 

What was your budget at the start after the takeover?

 

120? If I recall. TBH I don't really remember. Probably higher.

Up to fourth season (now) I've brought in 5 experience 3 judgment regualr scouts and the Youth are all maxed.

 

Hmm in terms of the CAM position, you can get Rakitic for around £15 million if you sell a couple of players who aren't of importance. Clement Grenier is also a good option. If you're in your 3rd or 4th season, Grenier may have improved a lot because he's young so he may cost more than that. Depends on his development.

As for the strikers, that's really up to you mate! There's so much choice. I like clinical strikers personally. Not too fussed about pace. So people I regularly buy in my careers who aren't extortionate (i.e. between £15-£25 million) are people like Giuseppe Rossi, Higuain, Javier Hernandez, Diego Costa, Mario Gomez, Mandzukic.

 

I would be looking for a clinical striker, I've got Hiwalu for pace(I also play Anya up front sometimes, he scored 24 goals in the first season!), got Babacar for strength and heading so would be looking for an all round striker with top top finishing. I'm going to buy a 5* Experience and judgement scout to help me find someone!

 

So pricy when you have a short budget but that's only a short-term problem. Over the long-term (I'm talking 4-5 seasons), 5* scouts are SO worth it. They work wonders. Most of their prospects are utter cr*p but I'd say for every 10-15 cr*ppy players they send you, they'll also send you an absolute gem.

I only sign up youth players to my academy whose minimum starting overall is 55+ to allow them to grow whilst in the academy & I'll only promote them to the first-team if their minimum starting overall is 65+. Any less than that & they won't grow fast enough to make a real impact on your first-team squad.

 

Going to sound a bit thick, but where is the academy on FIFA? I didn't even realise there was one...

 

Not at all mate. I may have confused you by not using its correct name. By 'academy' I meant Youth Squad.

In case you're still unsure;
On the main manager career mode menu go to the 4th slide along - the 4th slide is the one that is titled Office. From there navigate to the section named Youth Staff but don't click on it. Instead scroll along on the section by flicking the right analog of your controller from left to right & it'll change from Youth Staff to Youth Sqaud. Then click on it & it should show you the players you've signed from the Youth Scouting System so far.

Good thing with a half star team: Any decent Youth Player you find can get instant 1st team game time, and upping their wage isn't an issue. (£500 FtF - £750 Crucial)

(CB - 75 Overall after a Season, 65 Accel and Speed, Green near everything else technical wise...something like that)

I have done half-star careers before in previous FIFA's but not this year. The lowest star level I've sunk to is 1 star. Sligo Rovers career (for the bant). Couldn't bring myself to do more than 1 season with them though. The Airtricity League is so dull. £300,000 transfer budget.

I think to make the lesser leagues more exciting they should make it more realistic like enter you in the preliminary qualifying for the Champions League if you win the league. Would make doing obscure leagues more fun.

 

Best thing is if you really need money they bring in more than most of your team, and you know that he will develop rather than hope they might if you go with one from the basic team.

 

Spyro the Dragon 2; Gateway to Glimmer for the PS1 is the greatest video game of all time.

I love GTA, FM, Fifa and all that gubbins, but nothing comes close to Spyro 2. I still play to satisfy and calm my inner-child.

 

Anyone play FIFA Pro Clubs on PC? Right now enjoying being an 88 GK. I hate playing outfield.
