    Di Natale. What a guy.

Sherlock I've heard you're close to selling Nico Lopez, what's that about? Thought he was highly rated? Maybe Stramaccioni doesn't rate him.

He is highly rated! But the picking order for starting 11 seems to be (as quite logical) 1) Di Natale/Muriel 2) Thereaux/Lopez.
Given that Di Natale will be soon 37YO and will certainly not play 90' for all the matches and Muriel in last years seemed quite injury-prone, this means Lopez will have anyway a lot of matches to play.

Unfortunately, it looks like Lopez wants to be in starting 11 (away from here, if not possible here) or his agent is a troublemaker.
And it looks like he or his agent have decided the optimal destination is Verona.
Which is ... well I won't say as Luton is to Watford (that would be Triestina) but ... QPR AFAIK is quite a rival/opponent for WFC.
So, let's say he wants to go to Udinese's QPR, playing in the same league!
Not very good for us fans!

Club and fans would rather let him go on loan to Empoli. A "friend" club (several of our players came from there, like Di Natale, Fabbrini, Forestieri, Angella ...) which probably will fight against relegation and will accept a straight loan.

Verona is trying to leverage on player's will and offered some ridiculous deals like "loan and option to buy for 6M€".
Pozzo's can be very hard dealers and replied with something like "loan and option to buy for 10M€ AND option for Udinese to buy back for 12M€".
Currently latest rumours say it could be "loan with option to buy for 15M€.
    We will see.

If Lopez goes, it seems we want to buy Duvan Zapata from Napoli (http://www.transfermarkt.com/duvan-zapata/profil/spieler/73794) as replacement.

He'd be quite pricey though surely? Can't imagine Napoli would take less than €8-10m for him, which is quite a lot for a Pozzo purchase!

I agree, but the rumour seems quite strong (linked to Napoli's result in Champions League play-off against Athletic Bilbao anyway: it they lose, they'll keep Zapata, if they win they'll search for a stronger/readier bench-striker and sell the young prospect).
Relations with Napoli seem quite good, so maybe the possible deal will involve some "sell on fee" or maybe a first option for Napoli when we will sell Muriel.

Highlights from the 5-1 against Ternana (although they still go on with a mistake as Thereaux scored the 5th).
    http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/skil...-five-past-ternana-in-coppa-italia-video.html

The first goal was very good reflexes after the defender's mistake.
The second was being in the right place at the right time for a sitter on Widmer's excellent cross.
The third was very good control and shoot but the GK could have done better.
But the fourth goal ... that's amazing! Pure class!

With our first match of serie A beginning in half an hour, I watched meanwhile the highlights from the first match of the Primavera (U18) italian tournement played yesterday.
Udinese won 3-1 away against Chievo, title holder. A very good beginning.
    http://udinesecalcio.portals.twww.tv/video/dafc864854812071060beb4071bdda50.html

I had read that this year we have a very good youth team, with some good italians and a few young very promising talents bought this summer. From the video, I must agree! Some of the playing by Zapata, Jankto, Vutov, Jaadi, Meret was really good quality. And there's also Hallberg who didn't play (he'll be on bench for first team this evening, with Meret and Zapata).
Before you ask, Armenakas too didn't play. From his tweets looks like he was busy recently with Greece.

Sherlock, I didn't realise you'd signed Merker Hallberg, I've followed his career in Allsvenskan thus far - would love to see him play here.

There's a lot of very good players in that league, it's one of my favourite leagues to watch, the games are incredibly exciting and open. David Accam of Helsingborg is one of my favourites to watch.

I generally stick to watching IFK as Goteborg is where half my family are from, but there are some good young players in that league.

Who knows? As I said we have a whole new bunch of apparently very promising 18-19YO players: Zapata, Jankto, Vutov, Jaadi, Hallberg, Bochniewicz ...
probably not all of them will find space in our first team in next 1-2 years so it is well possible that, for their growth, some of them, the ones less suited to Italian football and best suited to English football, will go to play for WFC.

Good 2-0 win tonight. Well done Di Natale.

When is the new stadium finished?

In theory it should be ready by Summer 2015, with the new stands progressively available during the season.
Di Natale had a great way to celebrate his 10th year with us, celebrated today! Very good Muriel too, with a brilliant filtering assist in the first goal.
But we suffered and Empoli looks like a good team, which will give some surprises this year.

Lol .... I missed the whole of the second half.

Good win to start the season, if Granada can win now it really has been a very good weekend (probably) :D

This evening (half an hour from now) Lazio-Udinese, last match of 4th turn of season.
If we lose we stay 7th in table.
If we win, amazingly, we would be 3rd.

Watching on BT now. Badu gets knocked out and the commentator says he's dived. Muriel clatters into the Lazio keeper after being pushed, 10 minutes later beautifully executes some skill to help set up the Udinese goal asked to be substituted after due to aching after hitting the keeper but the commentator can't work out why he's hurt and says they must have missed the contact... Basically the commentator isn't that good.

    -31!!!
I mean, we have 9 points and 40 points is the classic aim that guarantees safety from relegation.
That's ALWAYS our first aim in season and it's coming near incredibly soon, particularly considering we had some very difficult beginning fixtures with Juventus away, Napoli at home and Lazio away.
Oh ... and incidentally we're currently third on table! :jumping1:

Udinese on BTsport again tomorrow, against Parma. I think every single Udinese game so far has been on BTsport!

Amazing! Udinese-Parma 4-2 with some really beautiful goals, and we are again 3rd, with 12 points on 15, having lost only with Juventus.
Currently we and Sampdoria (another "small team") with 11 points the only ones following the bulldozers Juventus and Roma, which have both 15/15.
Inter, Milan and Verona are 5th with only 8 points!

Won 4-2, Di Natale with 2.

Currently sitting 3rd, their only defeat was to Juventus.

Di Natale with 8 goals in all competitions

I know your answer is safety first, but surely got to be looking higher? Yes, okay, it's only 5 games in and like watford, 12 from 15 after that many games, but possible champions league or Europa? It doesn't hurt to dream big for a little while!

    Safety first!!! ;)

Then of course, although too early to say, this one certainly looks like one of those good seasons where we can gain again qualification for Europe.
Stramaccioni seems a very good manager, very well prepared tactically. Yesterday for example we switched 3 different modules: 4-4-2, then 4-3-1-2, then 3-5-2.
And vice-coach Stankovich is incredibly charismatic and full of energy, having him on the side of the field encouraging the players is almost like having half a player more on the field.

After the matches against "big teams" like Juve, Napoli, Parma and Lazio (1st, 3rd, 6th and 9th last season) next one is at home against the newly promoted Cesena and this might be tricky.
So far we have been able to play staying behind and waiting for the chance of a counter. This is the first match where we'll probably have to create play against a team doing the same, or maybe even "parking the bus". The typical match we can end losing 0-2 after sterile possession and two good counterattacks by Cesena.

But ... IF we win, given Juventus and Roma play against each other, we might be either 2nd or 3rd at just one point from top, and that would be really amazing.

The difference between English and Italian football is right here; you see that as being well prepared but many in England would see it as indecisive and lacking a proper strategy!

I'd also see it as being well prepared, it's necessary, especially in such a tactical game like the Italians play, threats change as the game flows, not changing to counter those threats or enhancing your advantage is just foolish.

    All goals from Udinese-Parma.
    Worth of note:
    - Badu's header-assist for Di Natale for 1st goal
    - Thereau's feint for Di Natale for 2nd
    - both Di Natale's shots
    - the bicycle-kick by Herteaux (a full back!) for 3rd
    - the stubborness by which Thereau conquered ball for the 4th
Our defending could have been better, but all the goals were quality.
