SSN misheard the sources due to a poor phone signal, what they said was that Deeney is seen as a bulky player in Javi Gracia's squad.

We have signed a decent left back in Adam Masina no? Good price as well considering he's well rated. I understand your point about being compared to Newcastle when we're much better off with the owners we have, however, how can you say we've had bad windows?

We've signed Deulofeu for 13m and sold someone half as good for almost 4x that amount! Last season we signed Chalobah and Hughes very cheaply and they're going to be regular starters for us over the coming seasons. I personally think our transfer activity has improved, making savvy investments and snapping up very good players at slashed prices. Obviously we need a striker, maybe another winger and a CB but we're not far off being ready for the new season.

I think Ken Sema could be very good for us this season and he was under 10m. We have a lot of hunger and youth in this team now so I think we should be more optimistic!

I also think Navarro will be a good option too

I don't entirely reject your argument that we have had good windows, I agree, for example, that last summer represented a very strong window that was unfortunately hampered by another insane injury crisis and the fact that Gray turned out to be quite **** (I'd still rather have seen him feature more). I will therefore clarify my position on the points you highlighted.

    > We have signed a decent left back in Adam Masina no?

Yes, indeed, and I literally acknowledged that point in my original comment: "avoiding recruiting in all but one of the positions we most desperately need to (that one being left back, of course)!

    > how can you say we've had bad windows

I said we're on the way to a second disappointing window, the first being January. Yes, we brought Deulofeu in, but that was essentially all, and given the central midfield and central defence debacle and injury to Chalobah that was very apparent to them at this point, I would absolutely say that our recruitment was lacking (I wrote as much here at the time) and we saw it in the way we played over the second half of the season.

    > We've signed Deulofeu for 13m

Yes, I can't deny that, and it's good to have him. It hasn't actually improved the team, though, because he was already part of the team at the end of last season. In signing him, we have maintained the exact same level we were already at.

    > Chalobah and Hughes

Can't argue at all, they're both brilliant players and investments, I hope they play every game this season.

    > I think Ken Sema could be very good for us this season and he was under 10m

I hope, of course, that Sema will turn out good, as with all our new players. That being said, he has arrived from the Swedish Allsvenskan. That's not even at the same level as the Eredivisie, the league that gets everyone umming and ahhing about whether or not a player would be able to adapt to the Prem any time that they're linked to us. It obviously remains to be seen how he'll do, and I think it would be folly to be in a position to rely on him, at least straight off the bat.

Hunger and youth is good, if we do indeed have 'hunger', seemingly unlike what we've had up to this point in the Prem. But I'm fearful that injuries and lack of quality in key positions will see us struggle again if we aren't smart in the last couple of weeks. There are fresh links today to Alcacer and Ghezzal, so perhaps we will be after all. Fingers crossed.

Deeney could be our biggest signing of the summer.

Misunderstood your original point about the left back scenario but other than that yeah I understand your point of view.

I've gotta say Sema was easily Ostersunds best player in last season's Europa league run (make of that what you will but he's looked decent in pre season too).

Yep would love Ghezzal and Alcacer too!

This is what we should be doing, I'll leave it to the pozzos to start getting a better % of Richarlisons, Femenias, Kabaseles and Doucoures than oulares, Dje Djes and Sinclairs. This summer isnt the 12 players in business of the last three because theres the residual good players still here from those three seasons.

With respect to the club captain who's on a huge wage, "so he f***ing should". The last 2 seasons starting weight and fitness was a slap in the face to the fans. Totally unacceptable.

They are as tight as Spurs. They offered Swansea half what they paid for Clucas

Dyche just appears to be going on a bidding spree of the remaining horrible British players that don't already play for him

  24. Said the other day that I think it will be Troy's choice to go, not Gino's decision to get rid. This offer, if there is anything in it, will be far more attractive to Troy, and I think a far better inducation of someone who knows how Gino works. Whoever wants Troy needs to sell it to him, not the boss, and European football and a five year at one of the big 7 must seem very tempting, particularly as they will be playing to his strengths. Doesn't necessarily mean we won't hold out for more though, but if Troy wants it, I don't believe Gino will stand too firmly in his way.

For Troy, IMHO, it is a no-brainer, and we may even end up regretting letting him go.

If there is any truth in it.

Deeney wanted by Burnley - don't they have a few big physical strikers already?

Probably appeal more to him than Cardiff does!

Frankly I'd take the 9 million based on the last two seasons.

Deeney's game is very physical and he's now at the age where professional top level strikers are in physical decline. It's all downhill from there; none of us can win the battle against aging.

I have no beef with Deeney (insert "because he ate it" joke here), I think he's been great for the club and he's played a massive part in getting us where we are. On that note, with a sizable bid on the table and a five year contract on offer for him (which would almost certainly be a payrise), the time might be right.

You can see why it would be attractive to him. And £9m flat cash upfront could work out as a better deal than say £15m from Baadiff with a load of clauses attached.

No way will they accept £9m whether Troy wants the deal or not.

Leventhal has tweeted that it’s a genuine bid and seems to have been rejected out of hand. I’d say by now it’s clear he’s going nowhere this summer. I really hope this doesn’t point to us not bringing in a striker.

"The club continues to have complete faith in Deeney"...

Yeah, or they just aren't willing to or are failing to bring in a new striker.
