Oh thanks. I think we'd have still lost that if we scored to make it 2-1.

Can anyone remember a match where we missed a penalty mid-game when the score was in the balance?

    Watford v Spurs on Saturday.

Kenny Jackett hardly ever looked like missing if I remember correctly.

Vardy has 18 pens from 24 attempts. A 75% score rate. Including one converted penalty in the EFL Cup.

Whoops Vardy missed one today ;)

I shared everyone's thoughts about where Deeney always puts his penalties when we won the pen this weekend. But NBC put a graphic up showing his last five penalties and where he's put them; they were all in different places and roughly balanced on side. If NBC's graphic was correct he uses more variance than we give him credit for.

Deeney missed a pen on our last trip to Upton Park. Similar type of save to the Spurs one this weekend and the miss at Arsenal a couple of seasons ago.

He also missed one at home to Newcastle at the end of the Silva/Gracia season - that one was saved low down and he also missed the follow up.

I can't think of any others he's missed since we came up so that's 4 misses in 5 and a half seasons. There are probably some from the Championship but I can't remember them.

His Watford career record on penalties is:

    Scored 28
    Missed (saved) 6

    Seems pretty decent to me.

Now I really want to know who the other 2 misses were against!

Bring back Abdi. I think he only took one penalty but he made it look so easy (which in theory it should be). He put it far out of reach of the keeper and made it seem like it wasn't a big deal.

His misses have been against Spurs on Saturday (obviously), Newcastle (h ) in a 2-1 win, Arsenal (a ) 0-3 defeat, West Ham (a ) 1-3 defeat and the two you wanted to know were Brentford (a ) in a 2-1 win and Blackpool (a ) in a 1-0 defeat.

So even though he's missed 6 penalties out of 34, only the one missed against Spurs and the one way back against Blackpool have cost us points. Arguably his miss on Saturday has been the most costly of his career, denying us a possible victory.

    Deeney record = 82.4% success
    Vardy record: Scored 18 - missed 4 = 81.8%

If Deeney scored 22, then when I was at school 22 out of 28 was 78.57%. But that was a long time ago.

    Is it inflation, maybe?

    If being the operative word.

    He scored 28, missed 6, took 34.

    Go back to school!

Haha! Absolutely right, I misread the stats.

My apologies, and I'm glad it is you, not me, doing the graphs!

I recall Deeney missing the penalty against Blackpool (hit the crossbar) while the scoreline was 0-0. We lost 1-0 to an Ince goal.

    Bring back Cliff Holton.
He hit them hard. So does Troy. It's a good policy: Take, for instance, the Wolves penalty; he hit it so hard the goalkeeper simply didn't have time to adjust, even although the ball travelled close to him. VAR is quite a good thing on this because it can catch out keepers who cheat (and a lot certainly used to).
If you hit them hard into a top corner then they are unstoppable - Kane at his best does this ( and I remember Marlon King doing it too). But it's the most risky - so easy to stick it over the bar.
The Spurs one was rather poor: Middling height, and this is reckoned to be a nice height from a keeper's point of view, and nowhere near the post. The keeper still had to guess right, otherwise he would never have had the time.
Pukki's pen for Norwich was a cheeky chip into the middle, but I thought he telegraphed it with his body position and approach and he was lucky the keeper didn't seem to pay attention. Championship keepers should take note for next year.

I love it when people say "I recall" and then immediately prove that they don't recall at all...

Ince was a little *****hawk, wasn't he?

The best pen Troy has ever taken was the one at West Ham away last season. He absolutely walloped it into the top corner. Surprised he's not tried anything like that since.

Worst player to have in a dressing room. He's toxic.

Deeney should be our penalty taker, clearly a good record. He could avoid low penalties as i think these are the majority of what he's missed.
