If we're cherry-picking from the Championship I'd like Olise (Reading), Toney (Brentford), Danjuma (Bournemouth) & Dike (Barnsley)

Add them to Llorente, Young & Deulofeu we'd have a very exciting team.

That young striker Darryl Dike on loan to Barnsley from some Yank team looks **** hot, I reckon we should go in for him.

Thats Semenya KGT as I am sure you know. :) Still fighting a case at ICAS about testosterone levels and the ability to compete in womens events. World Rugby are also trying to draw up rules about transgender males participating in womens rugby.

17M release clause and the vultures are circling already to stockpile another player and then loan them out. There is still the issue if we go up of having to find some way of removing two forwards who frankly will not provide anything to us in the PL and yet are eating an enormous amount of the wage bill which needs to be better utilized on enticing new talent.

Has to be worth 17m and if we want to make an impact in the PL I think it would be money well spent.

There's no way we're spending £17m on one player in the summer.

£17m on a player who has played 14 Championship games? Firstly we are not spending that sort of money for some time and secondly that would be an enormous gamble probably not worth taking

D&G and it's not that brand. ;) The only striker I would keep is Pedro to be frank. Success has ability but will he ever decide to show it ?

There is no way we should be looking to buy championship players to stay up in the Premier league. Are you people out of your minds?

Depending on what Championship players you mean? Presently there's plenty who are more than capable of improving our team in the Premier league and loads of other Premier clubs.

I'm positive that your wish will come true. Plus a few out of contract players. It's all dependent who stays. Nothing like stating the obvious but it's true.

Armstrong hadn't scored in 11 games before this weekend and more of those than not he wasn't injured - I'm not saying he's rubbish, but he has had 38 shots more than anyone in the division so far this season, and his overall tally of 164 is fully half the the tally of the entire Bristol City team. I took these stats from an article in the Lancashire Telegraph with the headline 'Verdict: Just where would Rovers be without Adam Armstrong?', and it also includes this paragraph:

    upload_2021-4-11_12-45-43.png

This might sound a bit mealy-mouthed given that he's currently playing in the Championship, but if we were going to splash the cash to upgrade at striker, I'd feel a lot more comfortable targeting a Toney type figure in terms of being able to physically deal with playing as a lone striker in a likely 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation that we would deploy, as part of discontinuing our insane track record of buying and fielding strikers who are incapable of playing up top on their own.

Armstrong is 24 and though he's scored a lot of goals in the division, he's not even the first or second best rated player for 17th-placed Blackburn this season (he's third, for full disclosure/fairness). He's English and playing for an English club, so the premium would be there in spades, and I just don't think we'd necessarily see a lot of value in it, nor do I necessarily see him scoring a lot of goals for us in the Premier League, where we're not that likely to be freewheeling to the same extent or creating half the shots of other teams to apportion solely to him.

Agreed. Armstrong is a decent player but a) Rovers are supposedly looking for £20m+, with a many better options out there for that price in the continent and b) stylistically I think he’s not what a promoted team needs. Blackburn have a lot of the ball, hence why Armstrong sees so much of the ball and has so many shots. We’re not going to have that level of possession next season and it’s important that any striker we have is both clinical and good at holding up the ball and dragging the team up the pitch.

Olise is a top talent. Probably the best opposing player at the Vic this season and incredibly young. Reports of an £8m release clause in his contract and either way he is out of contract next June. Left-footed, of which there is a real dearth in the squad and very versatile - has played as a CAM and a RW and could easily be moulded into a left winger too. A lot of clubs will be after him but he probably wouldn’t have to move home or anything to join us and could be confident of getting lots of minutes. One can dream.

Danjuma and Rico Henry are two top players who could just about be within our price range if their respective sides don’t go up. Seny Dieng of QPR has had a breakout season and reports today that he could be available for £6m - that would be GK sorted for the 5+ years.

There are also a lot of good young CBs in the Championship - Jake Cooper, Dael Fry, Harry Souttar, Nathan Collins, Matt Clarke (on loan at Derby from Brighton). A good position to recruit someone from the championship (unlike striker, in my view)

If we go up, few players I'd target for a loan spell:

Balogun on loan if he stays at Arsenal
Gilmour, Loftus Cheek or Malang Sarr from Chelsea would be great
Josh King (Everton haven't used him much)
Minamino if we can or Harvey Elliot if he's grown up enough
Matheus Pereira if West Brom go down
Ryan Sessengeon, Foyth or Gazzaniga from Spurs.

I'd like to get Nmecha from Man City and give him some game time if we could. He could be a proper goalscorer.

Bit of a random shout I’d like to see us go for: Eduard Atuesta of LAFC. Really good DM - ratty but good on the ball. Would be tricky getting him a WP but doable - my cursory analysis suggests he’d get 12 or 13 points (you need 15 to qualify but over 10 means it’s discretionary I think). Would be a risk but he’s one of the best players in the MLS, is out of contract in December 2021 - pretty sure he’d be available for maybe £2m or so in the summer. Only 23 too.

Always hard to tell with the MLS, yes. Some players really hit the ground running - look at Alphonso Davies or Tyler Adams. Or even Dike. But then look at someone like Almiron, probably the best player in the MLS when Newcastle picked him up and he’s been pretty awful. But this guy is as likely as any to do well; he’ll probably get a senior Colombia call up shortly

Most MLS teams are somewhere between being a midtable L1 side or a bottom half Championship side in all the stuff I've seen that ranks leagues/clubs.

Alphonso Davies is/was one of those rare young phenomenal talents who grew fast. I know coaches that coached him before he went to Vancouver. Even as an 11 year old it was like a man playing with the boys. His strength and speed nobody could touch him. He played right and left wing in the mls and ripped it up being young hungry and raw. Munich took a chance $20m and he was loaned straight back to Vancouver and seen as one for the future. He arrived at Munich and injuries gave him a chance at lb where he’s been incredible and took his chances.

Yeah perhaps not the best example of a player managing the step up from MLS as he’s just such a generational talent one can’t extrapolate too much from his experience. But there are a bunch of former MLS players doing fairly well in Europe - Brendan Aaronson at Salzburg and Jack Harrison are others. But Almiron definitely a cautionary tale that springs to mind.

Still, Atuesta surely worth a low risk outlay of £2-3m. We could always sell him back to the MLS for that sort of fee if things don’t work out.

I can’t comment on this fella as I’ve never seen him. One thing for sure the quality in the mls has improved over the years. Football/soccer is by far the fastest growing sport in Canada not sure about USA but I guess it’s up there. The comparison of lower championship league 1 is spot on and it’s a league that should definitely be explored

The big fella on loan to Huesca from Wolves Mir looks a talent. Good in the air and looks like he has some pace. But I'd imagine a few clubs over there will be interested in him now after a good goal return with a club battling relegation.

One player I'd love to see us go for is Josh Maja at Fulham, looked very lively, got a few goals and has been unlucky to have one or two taken away from him. He's only on loan from Bordeaux, with Fulham looking like going down, I'm sure he'd be available for a decent price

Sure, although I guess we'll have a bit to spend. Fulham had such little time to prepare for this season, and by the time they managed to get a lot of these players, they were already up against it, whereas we'll hopefully be able to fully plan for the Prem come this weekend
