Someone to fill the used to be good, now old, expensive and permanently injured role vacated by Wellbeck? Free if you ignore the £4m in wages and similar amount on medical expenses, bargain. Or maybe we are transitioning Deeney into that role this season, seems to be gradually gathering the full skill set? Former Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge, 31, believes his return to football is imminent, after having his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor mutually terminated in March, on the same day he received a four-month worldwide ban for breaching betting rules. (Liverpool Echo)
So, we're down to 22 players in the squad, possibly soon to be 21. Expect to see a lot of bargain basement deals and Premier League loans!
Not sure it's quite that low. I make it 23 without Dawson, plus we have 3 injured players to come back in: Navarro (hmm), Success, Masina but Dele-Bashiru won't be back this season. So it's a possible 26 players for this season, as long as no one else leaves. It's still a low total, but we're bound to bring in a LB/LWB before Friday, bringing the final total up to 27 players.
Brackets are our U21s plus Dawson 1 GK Ben Foster (3 DF Jeremy Ngakia) (4 DF Craig Dawson) 5 DF William Troost-Ekong (6 DF Ben Wilmot) 8 MF Tom Cleverley 9 FW Troy Deeney (captain) (10 FW João Pedro) 11 DF Adam Masina 12 MF Ken Sema 14 MF Nathaniel Chalobah 15 DF Craig Cathcart 16 MF James Garner (on loan from Manchester United) 17 FW Glenn Murray (on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion) 18 FW Andre Gray 19 MF Will Hughes (20 MF Domingos Quina) 21 DF Kiko Femenía 22 FW Isaac Success 23 FW Isma*la Sarr (24 MF Tom Dele-Bashiru) 25 FW Stipe Perica 26 GK Daniel Bachmann 27 DF Christian Kabasele 29 MF Étienne Capoue 31 DF Francisco Sierralta 32 DF Marc Navarro (35 GK Adam Parkes)
The U21s bulk up the squad, but the advantage of having so many of them is negated if we're significantly under what we can pick. Hope the new LB comes soon, whether that's Bennett or whoever, then maybe an creative attacking mid, and then maybe some loans from somewhere (even if they are just to keep Norwich from getting their 6-fingered hands on them!)
Supposedly Swansea in pole position to bring in Harry Wilson. Would be a great signing at this level although I don’t he’d be willing to come and play second fiddle to Sarr. If they keep Rodon and Ayew and bring in Wilson, they’ve got to be up there.
Still don't think they get near us. They don't have the strike force we do and they certainly don't have the squad depth. They don't have the Champo experience either like we do with Murray and Wilmot. Might make the playoffs but you'll have to get 100 points plus to finish above us and I can't see Swansea doing that.
Was wondering whatever happened to that Adnan Ali bloke and if he was still at Udinese and could've been our answer to our left back issue. Turns out he's not, but the section of his Wikipedia entry under "Style of Play" is really quite something... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_Adnan_Kadhim
The thread titles in this transfer section are so depressing. A bunch of journeymen Championship full backs and players that might leave.
Kevin Phillips is suggesting that Liverpool should come in for Ben Foster as their No2 in an article on the hertfordshiremercury.co.uk website. Lets just hope the Scousers don't take his advice, as we cannot afford to lose Big Ben especially this late in the window.
Still waiting for the obligatory links with Borini, Simeone, Santon, Perotti, Veste and that French sounding ex Rotherham and Reading goal machine we were constantly linked with. Are we exempt these exotic links now we are in the 2nd tier and skint ? Barely needed to refer to Wikipedia this window.
Gael Clichy anyone? Out of contract and wants to come back to England, but 35 so maybe another Murray situation. If his legs haven't gone, maybe worth a punt?
Who knows? He was excellent at his peak; in fact, the reason why Arsenal could afford to lose Ashley Cole.
If his legs haven't gone and his wages aren't extortionate, I don't see why not. No idea whether they have gone or not, though.
No idea how true it is - but few Spurs fans in replies on Twitter threads about tonight’s game suggesting that Rose will be paid off this week and become a free agent...
Probably be picked up by a lower PL team if that is the case (or maybe a move abroad). I'd be very surprised to see him in the Championship
We’ll he won’t have a current wage to cover if he’s a free agent. It’ll be totally up for negotiation surely?
True. But we will be in a position to offer £x per week and Rose will say no. Reckon he’ll get a lower premier league club to snap him up.
Supposedly we made a move for Rose on Deadline Day, but we offered too little for Spurs and Rose wasn't particularly interested in the move either. https://the72.co.uk/197271/watford-failed-with-deadline-day-swoop-for-spurs-defender/
No idea of his performance levels, but played 4000 minutes last season in Turkey - almost every minute of every game. Better than most 35 year olds. Clichy and Asamoah are probably the best free agent LB options
