Vydra certainly has the goal scoring instinct, but he’s also a streaky player. Even in his first season with us he went a long spell without scoring between February and the play-offs, then he hardly scored at all for Reading. Not sure what his scoring was like for Derby, but he’s never really had a decent run in the Premier League, either because he’s been down the pecking order or hasn’t produced when he’s had the odd chance.

@ me next time darling so I have a chance to respond.

Someone who played 270 minutes of Serie A football this season is not that crazy. Especially when your owners have a history of business with the opposite club.

Barbosa is available if rumours are to be believed. He totally flopped at Inter so people are very cautious with his form in Brazil this time around. Flamengo can't afford him and Inter want as much as possible. Most recently linked to West Ham for £17 million.

Villa odds on favourites for Bowen but of course, less viable than Ollie Watkins..

    Loved Vydra massively.

He's got a s**t agent who's made him play for Pulis & Dyche in the Premier League. Shocking.

    Two time Championship top scorer.

Top scorer in the whole division when at Derby I believe.

Although his goal v Leicester was technically exquisite, my favourite Vydra goal was one he scored at Brighton in his first season; having defended a corner the ball got to Chalobah who knocked it on to Vydra in the centre circle, he then destroyed two defenders for pace before coolly slotting it home.

His goal at the Amex to effectively seal promotion wasn't bad either!

Our current approach actually utilises through balls and quick counters.

    He'd fit in nicely.

Apparently as some mention we already have a forward who can destroy players with his so called pace.

No. Although we’ve had a bad start, this our fifth PL season, we need to stop this looking back to the past with rose tinted specs and have much greater ambition.

Get rid of Gray yes, but replace him with a striker that was good for us in the championship 6 years ago?? Absolutely not in my opinion. That sort of lack of ambition wouldn’t be tolerated in any other part of the pitch, and you can make all the excuses about not having the right club (twice) he’s never made it at the top level.

People are talking about how he’s the best finisher they’ve ever seen... if that’s the case what does it matter who he plays for, surely he’d have found a way?

Agree re comments from the owners, I don’t expect a big window and loans are likely to the way forward, but I’m not sure what else anyone expects to the say.

It’s only ever managers that suggest signings are needed to try and force the boards hand, and even then it’s a gamble.

If anyone expects our owners to come out and say, yes our defence and attack are absolute dog **** and we need to improve them desperately then you’re mad.

All they are ever going to say in any situation is they are happy with what they’ve got but if opportunities arise to improve the quad they’ll look at them. That’s all they’ll ever say in regardless of circumstances.

Vydra is a championship player. I don't know why people struggle to understand this.

Sheffield Utd players were nearly all Championship players last season, now they are Premiership players.

Salah failed in the Premier League, so did De Bruyne before they succeeded elsewhere. Jamie Vardy was scoring for Fleetwood Town, before he went to Leicester at age 25. The ability to finish a chance doesn't disappear depending on what division someone plays in.

People need to understand that ability displayed on a pitch is as much about their circumstances, their mindset, etc, as their actual ability.

It is similar as why we were playing like a poor Championship team a few weeks ago, but are now the 3rd best performers in the Premier League over the last six games.

He's nearly 28. He's scored 4 goals in 40 odd games in the Premiership. Even Gray manages better than that

    He's the Czech Dwight Gayle

As much as I think this was started as a bit of tongue in cheek...

Sky Germany are saying an English club want Alcacer and he wants to leave as Haland will be first choice. Apparently Dortmund willing to do business but only if another back-up striker comes in.

Why strengthen the squad of a potential relegation rival? Look at the two players Premier League records. Vydra straight swap for Gray, you're having a laugh!

Been highly rated for some time now but anytime I've watched him he has been completely average.

    No.

The dislike for Gray is very baffling, people just love a scapegoat. People forget a few months ago the string of games when he would keep coming off the bench and bagging winners and equalisers. His confidence has taken a battering this season after a few poor misses. That happens to the strikers. He is by no means brilliant but he is at least proven to be able to score at this level which Vydra clearly isn't.

And I ******* love Vydra and put him in my Watford team of the decade.

Not as good a finisher as MoJo, so I'd say not even the best finisher ever at WFC.

The love for Vydra is an emotional one. It’s not based on fact. Despite the reputation as a in incredible goal scorer Vydra is out-scored by Gray at a premier and Championship level. Vydras success was largely based on playing alongside Deeney, and has been poor elsewhere. Vydra would probably score goals if we changed the team around him, and focused on creating opportunities for Vydra - which would virtually guarantee relegation because he’s not that good

Of course the love IS based on fact ! It's based on how well he played for us and how many goals he scored.
Whether he would score in the prem for a team who play passing football as opposed to a long ball game is a matter of opinion. I happen to think he was a fool to join WBA and Burnley as neither played to his strength. His goals per game stats look awful for both but I believe he frequently played just a few minutes at the end of a match and was played in a wide role by WBA. He can't operate as a lone target man. I accept at 27 the chance may have now gone but I'm convinced he would have scored goals in the prem alongside Deeney had he been given the chance or for say a Norwich, Fulham or a Villa-like side. He is (was?) great at finding space near the goal but needs to play with players who can find him with a pass. That's why he failed to score at Reading but was the highest scorer in the champ for us and Derby.
Having watched the side since the mid 70s he's the best one-on one finisher I have seen at the club. I struggle to remember him missing once put through. MoJo was great but also missed a fair few but we created so many chances under GT it didn't matter, as it didn't for Luther.

The goal I was referring to wasn't from defending a corner (was this really 7 years ago?) but it started from a defensive clearance.

Fair points made on both sides of the debate.

Like I said a loan deal to the end of the season would be a virtually risk free way of finding out & must be doable. Even worth the nostalgia factor alone IMO & would make no difference to us if it didn't work out either. And if we do go down we then have the perfect Championship player all ready to go. Whats not to like?

The boy has potential to succeed, we know that, If he did come here you would be guaranteed a 100% committed player & there's nothing ever wrong with that.

I'd like to throw Sean Murray's name into the mix. He's proven at set pieces, and nobody can forget his excellent bit of form towards the end of the 2011/2012 season

Perhaps Dundalk will do us a swap deal for Pereyra?

Don't care if it's with a Gray/Success player swap or just straight forward loan. I would support MV's return for the reasons stated.

I’d disagree about it being risk free, I’d say it’s anything but, based on our position. If were comfortably mid table then yes it would be risk free, as it is we are still in trouble and I don’t personally think we can take the gamble in a striker that that has so far only been able to prove that he can’t deliver at this level.

We all may have our opinions on what we think he might be able to do, but ultimately nobody knows for sure. How long and how many games do we give him to find out? I personally don’t think we’ve got the luxury as games are fast running out.

If you’re talking about bringing him in and then giving him 10 or 20 minutes at the end of a game then fine, but that isn’t what we need in our position.

I'd do it as we miss a quick poacher and he'd get the crowd going. Gray is essentially a worse version of Deeney.

We need a lot higher calibre of striker than Matty though.
