You made me think of an old Humph line about the pianist, Colin Sell, Humph being keen to get some news about the old maestro. Apparently, it had just passed its MOT. http://www.g0akh.f2s.com/isihac/Colin_Sell_Page.php
I would like to apologise to everybody that went to Colin Sell's last performance. Apparently it wasn't!
Thinking about CBs, Tomori of Chelsea, currently on loan at Frank Lampard's Derby County, could well be worth a punt - 21, was voted Derby's player of the season, unlikely to make the grade at Chelsea but wouldn't be a surprise if he was ultimately of a similar standard to Ake and Zouma. Will be looking for another club with Derby unlikely to be promoted. Loan with an option to buy may be possible. Cooper of Leeds looked excellent all-round as well from what I saw, but at 27 and being Leeds' captain, it might be a bit late to sign him.
Matt Clarke from Pompey. Made over 150 professional appearances, cleaned up all of their end of season awards, still only 22 and tipped as a future England international. Surely wouldn't be too expensive either?
We've been linked with him in the past: http://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/matt-clarke.53815/#post-2631186 It's not impossible that he could do well, but my impression from the little I've seen of him as that he really lacks pace and thus has a ceiling of a bottom-third Prem club.
The Z Cars/ISS issue is in as much of an impasse as the current Brexit talks. Should Gino bring in a new songwriter to break the deadlock? A younger, cheaper one with experience in Andulusian folk songs? An older irascible Greek one? A fat one from Birmingham?
Beat me to it. Him and a ball playing CB (a cut above) would be ideal. Shouldn't cost much either as they'll be running low on parachute payments etc
Thought exactly the same thing when WBA lost tonight, as Dawson will almost certainly want to play in the PL next season.
In fact WBA could well be worth raiding for the two defenders and a striker that most people agree we need: - Craig Dawson - ball playing CB; Kieran Gibbs a LB and Although I think The Toon will probably want him, Solomon Rondon having had him on loan all this season.
Didn’t we try and sign Dawson on some pathetic loan deal last summer? Can’t suddenly see us paying the fee they’d want if that piece of news was true... Although he’s another that would likely move to Villa permanently, Tyrone Mings has been a revelation for them since signing on loan and moving to CB. Left footed and comfortable on the ball, good in the air. He’s young and probably unwanted at Bournemouth. Was very highly rated before his injury, which he seems to be over.
Considering how well he's been doing, and how utter shart Muff are defensively, I think it's far more likely that he'll go back to them then they'd sell him. I'd take him though. And Dawson. Those two would probably make a good pairing. I wouldn't pay the £16.5mil for Rondon, given his age.
You may be correct. Although I’d say Ake, Cook, Mepham and Rico are all in front of him as CB’s. And Ake being left-sided means he won’t be the LCB anytime soon, barring Ake being sold. Might be tricky given their placing as a club adjacent to us in standing - but certainly the type of signing we should be looking at with our modest funds
Mings would be better than Cook and Mepham I reckon. Though they've only just bought Mepham so I suspect they'll persist with him a bit longer. Rico is a left back. Good point though about Ake also being left sided , hadn't thought of that - it would certainly pose a problem for Mings becoming a regular starter. Should Muff hold on to Ake, and don't want to try Mings in his less favoured RCB spot, then if we were to offer them the £8mil they supposedly signed Mings for in the first place I doubt they'd say no just because we're also a mid-table club. Should a top 6 club wave £35-40mil at them for Ake they might find it better business to sell him and keep Mings as a ready-made replacement.
Yes we went for some tinpot offer alongside trying to get Arter on loan. Expect more nonsense this summer.
We used to laugh at Tyrone Mings. Half a decent season in the Championship and he's the new Maldini. Football fans.
Our centre back stock has gone so low at the hands of the owners that we could probably minesweep two at random from the championship and be better off than Mariappa and Kabasele.
