I wouldn't count on it, considering they run Udinese as a business, what's more valuable to them: Watford getting/staying in the Prem or Udinese winning the league? Watford.

They haven't sent us promotion winning side yet? so your theory falls down a little, also a player is a commodity and the return can be just as high, although the prem is a cash cow it also costs alot to stay in it

On paper, those 2 sides should get out of this division. Unfortunately, it's not that easy. Everything needs to come together at once almost perfectly.

The simple fact is that we're a Championship team. Regardless of the ambitions that ourselves and the club have, we're still not a particularly attractive option for young and old players. If a better chance comes, players will usually want to take it.

Clubs in this league and below will always have young players who want to leave if a better offer comes along. EPPP facilitates that to a ludicrous level. Regardless of the Pozzos, we still have to operate as a Championship club.

This is the best option for all involved, and certainly isn't the beginning of us becoming a nursery. Hopefully in a few years we should be a premier league team, and we'll be the poachers.

I didn't say they had, I said "getting to/staying in the prem"

  7. I suspect Panos was always destined to go to Udinese, they simply used the academy to complete his schooling in his natural language (the challenge of learning Italian and going through exam years would be pretty grim....)

    I don't have a problem with that.

  8. Arakel

I suspect we may see Panos back at some point anyway, probably on loan for a year. He's far more likely to be able to get into our squad in the next couple of years than to break into the Udinese team.

Good luck to the kid, it'll be interesting to see how things work out for him.

Why do people care of he's gone to udinese? The simple fact is that he wouldn't have even considered Watford without the pozzo's so what's the issue?

So many names are being related with Granada CF…

    Khazri is almost signed
Ali Adnan (20 years, Irak, looks like he is a talent) also in the orbit.

Other names related to Granada CF:
Pedro Leon (ex-Real Madrid), but I don't think this is real, he is expensive and he gave out the rest.
Isaac cuenca may have an offer from Granada CF (Also from Deportivo and another club)

And Brayan Angulo won't play for us next season after Pina said him that he MUST leave the club

We don't really know… He was one of most regular players last season, calm guy, not any problem, nice projection… But suddenly, Pina and his manager broke the renovation conversations and say to him: "Accept one offer, it can be from Bulgaria or anywhere, but next season you are not going to play here. If you stay you will be out of the team". He also said that in public…

As I said… We don't know whats all of this about

Angulo apparently asked for a big wage increase which Granada weren't prepared to give him. He's now been sold to Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria.

Pozzo's can have an iron fist with greedy players. And I like that!

Back to transfers: yesterday was deadline for the shared ownerships in Italy, to be resolved by agreement between teams, renewed or resolved by blind bid if agreement not found.
    Results:
    IN:
    - Armero back to 100% Udinese from Napoli (which had loaned him to West Ham)
    - Lopez 100% Udinese from Roma (very good news!)
    - Mori 100% Udinese from Brescia (but he'll probably stay there on loan)
    - Neuton 100% Udinese from Novara (after blind bid)
    OUT:
    - Aranguiz (Internacional Porto Alegre exercised its option to buy 100% for 8M€)
    - Barreto (blind bids, Torino offered 750k€, Udinese offered 0! They just wanted to get rid of him it seems)
    - Candreva (sold to Lazio, fee unknown, probably about 7-10M€)
    - Cuadrado (sold to Fiorentina, fee unknown, probably about 12-15M€)
    - Isla (Juventus FINALLY bought remaining 50% as promised, for 6M€)
    - Jefferson (to Vicenza after blind bids)
    - Mazzarani (to Modena)
    - Pasquato (to Juventus)
    - Verre (to Roma)

Renewed shared ownership with Empoli for Rovini, young striker in our Primavera team last season.

    Overall, quite good!
Some good money incoming for players who were not in our team last season (Candreva, Cuadrado, Isla, Aranguiz).
Got rid of some players who were no more in our plans.
    Kept the promising Nico Lopez.
Got back Armero who might have some good offers from Premier.

Angulo to Ludogorets Razgrad (1.5M €)
According to some news, Napoles offer 8M for El Arabi and Granada CF ask for 10.
According to some rumors, Brahimi would be already sold to Tottenham for 12-14M but won't be official until Algeria ends in World Cup.
Granada CF wants to sell Riki, but he wants to stay due to Caparros.

Wouldn't be surprised if Armero was signed as a potential option for Watford if we get promoted. I'd be happy with him here.

How much did Udinese pay for the Lopez rights? A great buy.

  23. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

Don't know how much was paid for Lopez. I agree, great buy!

Armero ... I think he was bought to be sold immediately. Napoli had bought 50% with the "promise" to buy this summer the remaining 50%. But he didn't enter first team and went on loan to West Ham. They missed their promise but Armero could probably be sold for a decent sum to some Premier team.
His wage was probably more than doubled when he went to Napoli (Udinese is famous for its low player wages) and should be now about 1.3M€. Too much for us! That wage range (above 1M€) at us is reserved to veterans and real champions. Otherwise the promising youngs, maybe better on the field but paid much less, could become unhappy.
That's why it's unlikely that a good player leaving Udinese ever comes back.
Armero is the exception, but I guess Pozzo is betting on a good World Cup by him so he can sell immediately for some good money.

If he plays another match like today's in next against Russia ... and hopefully more good matches if they go on, Spurs won't be the only suitors and price will definitely go up!

I've read his was the first goal ever scored by a Granada player at a World Cup. Congratulations!

Sherlock I've read that udinese have signed a French forward Cyril Thereau from Chievo. Do you think he's been signed for the Udinese squad or to be loaned out? I only asked as he played under Beppe and wondered if he may be loaned to us.

  27. sherlock

I think he's definitely for Udinese. It seems Stramaccioni asked for him, as an experienced striker who can stay on the bench without much complaining but capable and useful when called on the field. Also he's the only tall/strong striker we have.

  28. Harris

yeah he'll be staying in Udine, Stramaccioni really rates him and said he's excited to work with him.

I only realised yesterday (due to some knowledgable folk on here) that Udinese sold Aranguiz. I was very excited watching him, thinking that Udinese had a real gem on their hands. The last I saw was a quote a few months ago saying that the Pozzzos wanted to sign all of his rights for a minimal fee.

Obviously 8 million euros was a nice bit of money but letting a South American talented lad go right before a World Cup seems very un-Pozzo like. He's probably worth at least double now.

  30. WatfordTalk

Looks decent, but I don't think he'll ever be worth more than £15m.

Unfortunately on January he might have come to Udinese but all our extra-EU slots were full, so he went on loan to Internacional Porto Alegre, which wanted also option to buy. I guess 8M seemed quite a high sum for the option. Difficult to foresee such an excellent seasons for him, that convinced Internacional to buy and an excellent World Cup that would have put his value even higher.
Well, not always everything goes perfectly. But this is far from bad anyway, as it's a quite decent gain for a player bought abroad and sold abroad without ever playing for us or even setting foot in Europe.

Another reason why it would benefit the trinity for us to be in the Premier League. Obviously we have no maximum numbers on non-EU players (so long as they get a work permit) and PL football would be a good attraction for players of that calibre to come on loan.

  33. sherlock

    sherlock Tippytappy footy expert

Absolutely true. And contrary to most unknown young players we buy in South-America usually, Aranguiz being full international wouldn't have had problems for obtaining VISA I guess.

By the way, talking about "not always things go perfectly", I see from recent and old news that in 2010 Udinese was very, very close to sign from Banfield a young Columbian player named James Rodriguez, but the request of 3M€ for 50% was deemed excessive by the Pozzos so the deal didn't go. He went to Porto a few months later.
Currently top goal-scorer at World Cup ... :dismay:

Sherlock - Do Udinese put a sell-on clause in the contract when they sold Alexis Sanchez to Barcelona? It probably won't matter anyway because he'll be in a cash + player deal but just curious.

I think Sherlock said they're rarely done in Italy and he doubts Udinese put one in.
