Granted he shouldn't be first choice but he didn't do much wrong tonight.

We had 4 or 5 players on an off day and Javi made the wrong subs.

Spurs deserved it, but weren't amazing. It's a shame, because I don't think we'll ever have a better chance of doing the double over them.

I think Janmaat did well, Delofeu didn't deserve to go off - he was our only spark.

Cathcart did OK (apart from that mental back heel into the corner)

Foster could have probably done better for Son's goal, but also made some great stops.

Success, Hughes, Pereyra, Deeney, Cleverley - all poor today.

    ******* sick of it.

  3. Gray was ill - but, yes - Penaranda would have given their defence something other than a battering ram to think about.

Cleverly was pretty awful too until he got hoiked. Kept giving the ball away. Wilmott did a better job as his replacement.

Our problem in the second half was that we had no out ball. Whenever we got it, we just seemed to hoof it straight back to them. People can talk about Success's chance, but what about Deeney when he got clean through in the 1st half and sort of half shot tamely into the side netting.

A shame, we could have had at least a point out of that.

Midfield virtually non existent in the second half and because of that defence had no respite.
Disappointing as a game thought we could get something out of

My only gripe is the balls out from the back throughout that second half were awful. Basically every one was an aimless hack or hoof away. We seriously panicked and Spuds just kept throwing on attackers knowing we didn't have the composure to try to build anything. Shame though as yet again we had a chance to kill the game (Success' shot slashed wide) and then go on to lose. Don't think Javi's subs were right either.

Not gonna top myself though. We proceed once more.

Wrong tactics and subs second half. We should have gone for it. Not sit deeeper and bring on more defensive players. Spurs had nothing to worry about. He who dares wins. Spurs will never ever have a weaker squad than tonight. Players can’t really be faulted.

One last thing after watching that as well as Newcastle I now value Abdoulaye Doucouré at £75 million.

    Thanks.

Bit disappointing as everyone else took points against the top teams this week. Lost a chance to stay on top of the pack. Time to chase again.

Once it was obvious that Spurs were throwing the kitchen sink at us, would have made sense to swap one of our inneffective attackers for another midfielder and try and get a grip on the middle.

As it was, we swapped like for like and stayed 2 up top, which meant 2 players were completely wasted and all we did was punt it hopefully up field and back to them all night.

Bad tactics from Javi. thanks for the memories, but goodbye and good luck. time for a new coach.

Also, gino, the window closes tomorrow, so unless you're unveiling a first team striker and centre half, hurry up and sell our club to some Chinese investors please and go back to Udinese.

Janmaat was at fault for the first goal - he showed Son inside and with a clear opening to shoot. But why take Del off when his chases were relieving pressure?

Subs weren't great but some of the players attitudes to tactics and decision making in the second half was all over the place. Hard to criticise the defence after the amount of pressure they were under but when they did get hold of the ball, it was just an aimless hoof EVERY TIME.

Far too many 5-6/10 performers in the second half to compete with Spurs at Wembley.
Hughes/Cleverley/Pereyra/Deeney/Deulofeu all largely anonymous. Didn't like Deulofeu going off so quickly as he offers something on the break but the balls were just so wild and aimless every time.

But Success was by far and away the worst of the bunch. Seemed like his attitude was wrong from the moment he stripped to come on - took an age. Then he couldn't have played worse if he was purposely sabotaging the team. Falling over, wasting time, poor misses, poor touch....you could go on. Should be punished by being nowhere near the squad on Saturday.

Gino should be thinking of a couple of last minute deals tomorrow IMO but I suspect he's more focussed on getting more people out the door than getting anyone in. I'm sceptical if Doucoure is injured as well.....

Maybe you're right about Janmaat. I'm not his biggest fan, but was giving credit for some good interceptions and some decent forays up the wing.

your right about Del. He can be frustrating at times but in this game and games before it, when he goes off we lose attacking impetus.

Yes, he did well apart from that. But it was an important mistake

Also - surely Chalobah showed enough to be in the squad? Now he's behind Wilmot? I want to see Wilmot develop and he did an important clearance off the line, but let's be fair, unless Chabs has boned Javi's wife, surely he's ahead in the pecking order?

If we had gone for it at the start of the second half we could have won that about 3-0

Yeah he was blameless tonight. But it's such an obvious weakness and yet the recruitment team have little appetite for rectifying our obvious CB lack of depth over 3 transfer windows now. I think they would rather invest in potential high uplift midfielders and forwards and it just holds us back over a season as a whole.

I think Mariappa plays worse with his big beard. A good shave is all we need, no need to splash the cash on a transfer.

  22. Chalobah is so much better as a DM than Cleverley, unless there is some reason we don't know about, surely he has got to be Doucs stand in?

Frustrating to not even get a point but maybe would have been a steal .

Whilst nowhere near his best, what Chalobah offers is calmness on the ball and we desperately lacked that tonight.

I'd be very surprised if we sign anybody. Comfortable safety ticks the owner's boxes and a £15m centre back won't guarantee much more.

If he's not careful I'm going to start disliking Hughes almost as much as Deeney...

Terrible subs from Gracia, as usual.

Hugely frustrating to lose but it sounded like if Spurs scored they would score again.
    How did Pereyra play?
He seems to have been absent of late.
I suppose we can take some comfort in the fact that we have looked assured in the first half and kept them at bay for so long.
Did we sit back or did they push us back? Probably a bit of both.
Being able to bring on Loucas Maureen and The Llama,at a combined cost of quite a few beans and an England full back, shows the strength of a top 4 team.

I thought that was about right. I didn’t expect us to get anything out of tonight but we played well first half and tbh Son really should if scored in the turn but great save Foster. Nice feeling to be winning at half time and Cathcart’s goal was well taken.

Wtf did the goblin say at HT? That was almost as abject as Bournemouth at home rolled into 45 mins. Terrible. No attack, sat back and let the come at us wave after wave like the White Cliffs if Dover.

Had we held on at 1-1 a point may of been justified but Spuds were by far the more superior team overall and deserved the win. Can’t fault the lads for giving it a go tonight and there were positives to take from it.

Javi’s bizzare subs continue to be wield us. Please, please start Pendz at Brighton. Success is second string at best. He’s not up to it and I feel with Deeney’s strength and Pendz speed we could se a new partnership.

Peyera a passenger again. When is he going to motivate himself to what we know he can do? Really poor SH showing tonight sand it’s a bit disheartening to see that thrown away. We don’t have long to dwell on it though as Brighton comes quickly, but that is going to be a tough game too.

They are good at home, we play like that second 45 it’s another loss.

Overall, right result and scoreline. They are miles ahead of us in team ability but we did well especially in the first half. Foster again did well, Cathcart my MotM. Javi needs to seriously think about his team subs now. We’re in no real danger of relegation but a bad run now could get us jittery. I’m pretty certain 7th is not on the cards on the off chance that display carries on.

But, we almost never play awful two games in a row, so I think in hindsight getting this one out of the way is a good thing.

We still have to go to Chelsea and both Manure clubs, but I think between those games we have enough about us to secure our highest Premiership finish since the glory GT days.

    Can’t believe muff twatted Chelsea.

Bobby still not at the races. Not taking on opponents any more and starting to overrun the ball when it's at his feet. As usual though he made a couple of really good runs off the ball which weren't rewarded due to team mates not getting their head up quick enough. I should imagine he's getting right farked off.

They started the 2nd half on the front foot as expected and we just seemed to loose our nerve. Really it was a result of our own making with the way we kept inviting so much pressure onto ourselfs. As others have said above, every out ball became an aimless hoof up the pitch that didnt go anywhere near a watford player.

Given how we played in the first half it is frustrating to come away with nothing but we cant have any complaints about the result. I just hope that if North Korea ever plan to attack they have Son high up on their list of primary targets.
