Does anyone else find, when using Today's Posts, that you see an interesting thread title and click on it only to find it's ****ing Football Manager and not the real world? Some days I swear there are more FM threads than real ones.:dismay:

If you could do the same on new posts that would be great :xmaswink:

Had a quick look in the back end but can't find it. Not one of the things I've tinkered with so I'll leave it up to sir Admin.

    Apologies, I'm useless:dismay:

Come off of it VoR, it's not that hard to click back a page or to avoid FM posts. They're really not that hard to bypass.

The far right column says what section of the forum the post is in, so if it says FM just ignore it, simple

Thank you for trying meister. There are ways around it like using Today's Football Posts and going through the other areas individually, so I'll cope.

The argument in defence of violent video games was always that players knew it was a game and could distinguish fantasy from real life. Sadly with FM this doesn't seem to be the case and all sorts of people think they can run a team better than people with the qualifications and experience to do it simply because they can do it on FM. This leads to new managers being given no time before the pressure piles on and fans behaving in the way PYA likes to describe.

Have to say I disagree with the sentiment of this thread - I'm not much on playing Football Manager (any more) but so long as it's part of the forum in my humble opinion it should be recognised by the Today's Posts and New Posts bits. It doesn't take a lot of effort to look a few inches to the right and see the forum the thread is in.

Yep, I agree, just look at the section its in.

But who does that? No-one. You see a title like '65 yard goal', you wonder what that's all about and you click, only to find it's a PRETEND goal. FFS.

It's easier and less frustrating to go back to perusing the separate forums.

  16. afanof

    afanof First Team

Perhaps we could introduce a new piece of forum etiquette where you put FM in the thread title eg FM:65 Yard Goal?

Ohh ffs, have you got nothing better to do with your day than bleat on about something that's easily avoidable, just use your bloody eyes and read the area that the thread is in, it's not f**king hard.

    - Well roll out a petition i'm sure you'll fill it in no time  As many have said it's not hard to avoid the threads in question.

    - It's a game dear, i'm quite aware of the differences between what i saw yesterday and what's on my screen.

It's a computer game Afanof. We can't be out 24/7 with mates etc, if we were you'd call us chavs and the like. We can't win with you can we?

This is a case where you find it annoying, others don't as they have an interest in the game. You didn't complain about Werewolf posts in there did you?

It's a forum, people have different opinions on everything, that's what keeps the place going.

  22. afanof

    afanof First Team

What are you on about? The werewolf threads are all entitled 'Werewolf:Day 1 etc. so there's no chance of anyone clicking on it thinking it's going to be about a football match or a boardroom take-over. Is that still eating at you? Of course it is, I've still got some Cude soup left in the freezer.

As for your final point, well yes, I agree completely, but you don't seem so committed to the idea.

Is this an inopportune moment to point out that I do?

The problem with this as I see it is that this is and always will be primarily a Watford FC forum. I don't see Admin ever changing that. But with that comes baggage: people like general chat forums, hobby forums, vBulletin comes with a vBookie and an Arcade which occasionally throw up discussion (and so on).

Not so long ago there was the Sportdaq forum - it used to drive me mad clicking New Posts and seeing it populated 90% by Sportdaq computer generated junk. But given time it died a death. Same with several other speciality forums on here. Aside from the main 4 Watford forums the vast majority of the remainder are fluid, changing as people want them to change. So I'd suggest that in time the FM forum(s) will probably die a death too.

If you want to go down a genuine football route to reading the forum use the 'Today's Football Posts' button. If you want to see the latest other topic posts then it's probably always going to be an all-or-nothing experience I'm afraid. The other options - 12 buttons on the top row to cater for different filters to suit different tastes or totally ignoring the existence of some forums - aren't particularly paletable IMO. And I don't think the software has the functionality to allow users to set their own filter options for New Posts.

Etiquette is fine so long as everyone agrees to do it - but how is it enforced?

You've contradicted yourself there Afanof. Yes Werewolf threads say 'Werewolf Day etc' however Football manager threads have "General FM Game Discussion" next to them. Big difference hey? Not at all, I would expect this complaint from an uneducated lazy 7 year old, not someone such as yourself Afanof.

With your final point, put your glass of Gin down. I'm fully open to peoples opinions on this forum, but just don't agree with half of them, probably like you don't agree with half of mine, or probably any of mine for that matter.

Why not have a little compromise then and just have 'FM' at the start of each of the Football Manager sections, for examplee 'FM - Player/Transfer Info'? This would mean posters do not have to feel as though they should add 'FM' to their posts and people like Afanof and VoR can see it clearer.

Yes but not all the FM secions do. Perhaps just one FM section would be better as I find that the forum seems to have a lot more sections and sub sections now than it used to.

I believe there is or was an option that allows us to automatically ignore certain individuals posts.

Is it possible to set up something similar to allow us to automatically ignore FM posts and or other sections for that matter?

By the way I think you will find that it is not always clear in the far right column whether a post refers to FM or not!!! i.e. there is a title headed: -

"player/transfer info" That I have clicked on on more than one occasion thinking it might be genuine info on a transfer, but no it's that game again

  33. Chewitt

    Chewitt Forum Extraordinaire

Don't be so dim, the "player/transfer info" comes under the list for FORUM, i'm sure you're well aware of the fact there's no WFC related forum with that name so it's clearly going to be FM isn't it.

It's really not hard unless you're a complete simpleton.

I do wish you would read the first post on a thread before putting in your two pennies worth Chewy

Afanof is talking about when someone clicks on the "Todays Posts" button, and I also mention the "New Posts" button in my 2nd post on this thread

Iam not sure about the "todays posts" button, but on the "New Posts" button there is no way of knowing if it comes under the list for FORUM!!!! :tongue1:

But why do you read a thread title and then scroll your eyes to the far right side of the screen to look at the forum heading? Is it because you have been caught out by threads appearing to be something they aren't?

I have no problem with the existence of the FM section or any of the other sections that I don't use. I'm just objecting to being lured into them by misleading thread titles that don't differentiate between the real world and play time.

The thing about etiquette is that it is observed out of courtesy, not enforced.

No FM threads do not have 'General FM Game Discussion' next to them it is several columns away.

The FM needs to be in the thread title. It's quite simple.

The following threads have been posted on today:

    The Board
    Free All Players
    Lloyd Doyley
    Aldershot
    65 Yard Goal
    Captain Doyley Saves the Day
    Madness!
    What a Recovery!
The Worst Games of the Season
    Transfer Deadline Day
    Man City

They are all thread titles I would read, think sound interesting and open the thread only to find they are imaginary. I just suggest as a courtesy to other users they should be titled, for example, FM: Loyd Doyley, so it is clear that it is just about boys with their toys.
