Look hear me out, okay?? Cast your minds back to two seasons ago, when a strapping young Watford side were delivering a superb start to the season under one of Europe's hottest managerial properties: Marco Silva. Remember how giddy we were? Remember how we swooned over his brooding eyes and soft lips? We all know it would be wrong to back. We'd feel dirty. Cheap. Remember what this man did to us. But imagine if he's changed. Imagine the summer of 2017 all over again, only this time with a more mature, more committed Silva, bruised by his mistakes and desperate to make good on his betrayals. I want that. I want what we had. It's time, Marco. Time to come home.
Even if the board considered such a move, the outcry from the fans would be immense. It would be almost as bad as bringing back Bassett. He stabbed us in the back and we were heading for relegation on form (OH THE IRONY). He knows pitch forks and rakes will be out for his blood if he stepped anywhere near the Vicarage Road Dugout. He had his chance and he blew it in spectacular fashion.
The outcry on this board would be. I’m not sure it would be at games etc. It would be tense to begin with and of course some would always hold the grudge - but in reality we aren’t a set of fans who are particularly vicious etc and I think after 3 or 4 games most fans would just get on with it. Let’s not forget that plenty of our players said they loved the short time they spent under him and many have said he was the best coach we’ve had under Gino. That being said, I don’t want him back. I think he needs time away from the game and perhaps to go to another country. He has to build his reputation back up. I have no sympathy at all but from the outside looking in, I think he will now look at the last 2 years as a fairly bruising period and realise ALL the mistakes he made.
I for one would welcome him back with open arms. I blame it all on Everton, he didnt have a chance when a big club like that came calling.
If he turned up and we started winning and playing good football, no-one would give a **** about what happened before. That's how football works.
The only regret I have is that Everton approached him when they did. Without that distraction I think we would've have at least one good season and a top 10 finish, something we still haven't achieved in four seasons in the Prem (and needless to say aren't going to do it this one!). True he is a bit of a one-trick pony who can't manage games with any consistency and whose limitations were already exposed at us before he had his head turned (wasn't it after we threw away a 2-0 lead at, ironically, Everton?) but he did manage one good season at Everton before being properly found out, and might well have done the same here before the usual firing which is par for the course at Watford. We were unfortunate to play them when they were on their best run of form with 9 clean sheets in their last 12 games and he seemed to have put together a quality team, but even then after an impressive opening spell albeit aided somewhat by our lethargy (a feature that has been sadly prevalent this season) they weren't very convincing and we should've got at least a draw. He certainly would be one of the last managers you'd go for when your PL status is on the line and you're looking to keep it tight and grind out results.
Do you think we are likely to get a manager who isn’t a mercenary and does care about us? I don’t unless it’s Mullins. I doubt many managers dream of managing Watford. To be fair to him, QSF genuinely seemed to care for the club - didn’t make him any better though.
He’s been found out. More time with us and he’d of been fired. Obviously he was and is a good man manager with his players as until the end of all his reigns he’s had the support of his staff and players. He just lacks that tactical knowledge to be a top manager look at defending corners he’s not really managed to fix that issue, even after spending big money on defenders he wanted at Everton. I would hate to see him back at our club, as far as past managers have gone he’s up there with Vialli putting him in same bracket as Harry Bassett is giving the guy credit Harry was doomed he had to bigger shoes to fill same things happened at Man U and arsenal big legacies leave and it’s not something they manage to fix over night. Apart from any other considerations, where would be the logic in our current position of re-appointing someone who has just been sacked for also being in the bottom three despite having had access to considerably greater resources than we would be able to provide? That's now three clubs looking for a new head coach/manager from a limited field then. Everton could again really p.ss us off by getting the man we want.
He won't work in England again, damaged goods in the Premier League and he's too far up his own arse to drop to the Championship. He'll pop up again in Europe somewhere, do well at a big club in a terrible league (someone like Dinamo Zagreb or Sparta Prague) so he can claim he's still brilliant. He'll fall out with the owners after a season and walk out in a hissy fit. Repeat until he retires or no one else will employ him.
I have a snake costume. I have a tracksuit. I have some footballs. Hell,I even have a clipboard. I can be a YTS Marco.
Seeing as I've given up on staying up this season, may as well have something to spice up the remainder of the year. Get him in so we can watch some comical light hearted zonal marking. Go down in style.
He’s got a very capable Everton side sat in 18th position. I’d hate to think what he’d do to a very **** Watford side
