The rumour is that Aidy is after two CB's, so could he be thinking of a new formation?

    Perhaps something like this: -

    Lee or Foster

    DeMerrit Shittu ANOther

    Mahon Bangura

    Edwards Bouazza or Stewart

    Young

    ANOther ANOther or Henderson

Three CB's to include a new player, Two Defensive MF's, Two Wing Backs to include Carlos Edwards from the scum, Young in a free role behind a new front two, or possibly one new striker with Hendo?

What do you reckon, boys and girls?

I like 3-5-2, though it would make us more vulnerable at the back, particularly down the flanks because it would require Bouazza and Smith to track back more often.

I think Aidy will stick with 4-4-2. I notice you have Davenport, Sharp and Edwards in your line up they would be quality, realistic signings. Can’t see Nugent deal happening though – maybe Beattie on loan if Nugent goes to Everton.

I disagree, that it will never happen in a million years. I don't think we will get Nugent, but the other three you suggest are a definite maybe IMHO.

I also prefer my system of 3 at the back, 2 holding MF's, 2 Wing backs, 1 in the hole with a free role and two up front!

I think two defensive minded MF's would be better as well, otherwise we'd leak far too many goals.

That would be typical if we got a couple of decent strikers and started to score then let in loads unlike recent times!

I really do think Aidy needs to worry about midfield and attack before the defence...

How much money would be wasted on 2 defenders who may not even play?

Is this the end of the road for Malkie and maybe Carlisle as well?

I think Malky yes, his experience was good in the Championship a league he knows, but not as useful in the Premiership.

As for Carlisle I think it depends how quickly he can return from his injury. Carlisle did so much for us (particularly in the first half) last season, I’d like to think he’d get some sort of chance to establish his position again. But in the long-term I think it is the end of the road for him (e.g leave summer).

The way I see it is that when the wing backs push on, the fact we have two holding MF's gives us the cover we need at the back, and putting Ash in the hole with a free role, may just give us the creativity we have been lacking.

I think the system looks solid, and could just work. Providing we can bring in the necessary personell to make it happen.

Carlos Edwards is very important in this set up, as he is equally as good going forward as he is defensively.

A goal scorer or two should be our main targets, but Carlos is also a must for me.

3-4-1-2 is not a bad system, but from experience it takes a lot of discipline to use well.

    1. With Mahon / Bangura we have the two central defensive midfielders required to make the formation work through the middle.
    2. Shittu will be the spine of the defence, and Jay possibly playing RCB as he can move out to the right to cover just leaves the new signing to play LCB. This means we don't want someone in a Shittu mould but someone a bit more mobile.
    3. Bouazza on the left as the wing back in my opinion is a bit risky. He is naturally a forward / winger and therefore I am concerned about giving him the responsibility of a wing back which is fundamentally different to a winger.
    4. Edwards would be a great player to play down the right.
    5. Ash in the hole would be the best place to play him, and we would rely on him greatly. Who would play in the hole if ash got a knock?

I still reckon my line up of 5-5-5 and both Rich and Ben in goal will work :)

I have to agree about Bouazza, I have also suggested Stewart, but it may need ANOther to fill that role, likewise if Young was to get injured, otherwise it would probably be Francis, Springy or possibly a dark horse could be Macca, now theres a thought?

Very dodgy.. Not many teams have the correct personnel with the technical ability or tactical know how and awareness to pull this system off!

Playing three centre halves always leaves you vulnerable to the diagonal ball played into the space where the full back should be after an attacking play breaks down... we have trouble with this ball with four at the back...

We need to play 4-4-2 and stick to it..

I disagree, thats where the extra holding Mf player comes in, he covers in behind the attacking wing back or slots in at CB if the CB is drawn out to meet such a diagonal ball.
