I haven’t seen this film nor intend to, but it is the case that most stories are powered by people doing daft things. There’s no ‘Silence of the Lambs’ without Hannibal Lecter making bad life choices. There’s no ‘Saving Private Ryan’ without Germany invading Poland. There’s no ‘Jaws’ if everyone stays on dry land when there is a shark about. Etc.

Dragons Den. It's always been revolting on so many levels but (I assume as I haven't watched it in ages) surely by now the format - ugly woman, freakishly tall bore, pug-faced hustler and other 'Dragons' do their best to intimidate and patronise desperate people and their crap, doomed-to-failure inventions/business ideas while waving wads of cash at them - is no longer appropriate. If it ever was.
  3. Yes just want to punch each of the arrogant ego-fuelled panel in the face. Started out as a good idea to show entrepreneurs what they needed to think about/know in order to appreciate and grow the value of their business. Turned into a pile of ****.

I watch the occasional one, I think unfortunately it’s also gone the way of the apprentice as far as who they pick to go on the show. I mean, it’s been going for years, surely anyone who has ever seen one episode knows they need to know what their figures are, what basic things like ‘turnover’ and ‘profit’ mean, and most of all that they need to value their company at a realistic number. Yet they still seem to have a regular stream of people on that insist on valuing their loss making business selling cardboard toilet seats at several million pounds.

It baffles me why everything on TV has to be in the form of a competition nowadays. That used to be the function of game shows only.

It seems to have a staggeringly low success rate. I know most small entrepreneurial enterprises do, but even so it seems to attract some right cases. I suspect so the Dragons can be rude to them.

The most annoying thing for me is when the dragons, most of whom would have the fillings from your teeth if they felt entitled to them, get all prissy and upset because a contestant attempts to play them off or bargain.

I also like how so many people go on there, only to reveal they already have investors who own 50% of the company, or they already have successful businesses themselves, but are only offering investment in something else that isn’t worth anything. Like 2 minutes of vetting and a quick look on companies house before hand wouldn’t have revealed that, hence it’s actually deliberate.

It pisses me off when people do this.

Referring to him by his first name give people the impression that he's some sort of loveable nice guy.

He's not. He's an incompetent fool.

Yes but Pele is the name he has been known as throughout his career. In fact, I don't know what his actual name is. I don't imagine many people do.

That does not apply to Trent.

Carragher is a repeat offender. Maybe because he puts his TAA pyjamas on before bed and brushes his teeth with his TAA toothbrush, but he should still call him by his name.

Right. But that example you just gave there is about 15 syllables.

"Alexander-Arnold" is 6 syllables. It isn't a momumental effort for pundits to call him by his correct name.

Pundits should also be totally impartial. By referring to him as "Trent" they are also suggesting some familiarity which is not what you want to see. They aren't his mate so IMO they should just stay neutral and call him by his surname. Just my opinion though.

Yes he is. I really haven't followed Watford much this season, but he's really done a good job in getting the team to gel. I hope he's given a chance next season, whichever league we're in.

Half a chicken, chips, chicken livers, hummus, halloumi, greek salad (though that's not as good as it used to be) for under 15 quid.

I hate the ambient noise though. The one in the Parade just echoes so badly I can't hear conversations on my own table.

That's actually old news. Many experts now say that bread isn't all that bad for them and that as not truly wild birds, they rely on human feeding to some extent. Without bread, many starved.

There was even talk that it was some sinister campaign by Big Bird Food which the RSPB either innocently or knowingly supported, in the hope that fanciers of water fowl would splash out on bespoke bird food.

I hate these copycat, templated shows the BBC is wheeling out, that my wife watches.

Some celeb who's probably been in Strictlyly, a bunch of hipster millennials and a judging competition for makeup/sewing/interior design/dog grooming(?!?!)/jewelry etc.

I get that it's tough to make some shows witu Covid, but these are all the god damn same show!!
  32. WillisWasTheWorst

Sorry, but this is utter piffle.
Of course ducks are “truly wild birds” - they are not in any way domesticated. They do not “rely on human feeding” but, like garden birds for instance, they will supplement their diet with easily gained food when it is offered. To say that “many starved” without bread is nonsense and wholly untrue.
It’s right that they can cope with eating bread and are able to digest it, but the problem is that they are given too much. Filling up on bread means they may not get their natural balanced diet, affecting their health. As a side issue, excess bread that is too much even for the birds to eat floats around in ponds and eventually goes mouldy. When it is eaten later it can cause more health issues.
Finally, I can assure you from direct personal experience that the RSPB certainly has the knowledge, expertise and wit to not be taken in by “some sinister campaign” to sell bird food. To suggest otherwise is not only insulting but smacks of conspiracy theory.

Saw a couple of Doug Stanhope shows at the LST, his 'normal' act is to 'riff' off the audience's responses. First one was full of meeja-types who I think were just collecting "Seen 'im" badges (most left before the show ended. The 2nd one was more his crowd: a pissed up mob. He was good but he really came alive when he made a 'dig' at Bill Hicks (his delivery and limited material) and the crowd weren't happy. When Stanhope saw the British adulation for Hicks (and worked out that the 'UK' built the stadium star that Hicks became) he was very, very good...

Not only wrong, but arrogant and aggressive with it.

'SwanSupport, a charity that rescues swans, ducks and geese, insists that feeding them bread is fine and told the BBC that many birds died from starvation because people had been discouraged from giving them bread.'
