I hate Apple now . Having bought most of their products in the last 20 years; not because I am a tech head ,( it generally makes me grumpy ) but because their products have been great .

Now they are constantly forcing me onto whatever system they want to sell me and sending me millions of annoying reminders every time I open up my computer.

I'd take issue with this. Most of my Wine shopping is Sainsburys. At worst I've had a mediocre bottle but never anything awful.

One you hit the 7 quid plus a bottle (I wait until these are reduced down to 5 or so) there's a couple of really good ones. I won't tell you which ones they are because they run out very quickly when on offer, but needless to say their Taste the difference buyer knows what they're doing.
The thing I have learned though is to avoid French Wine in supermarkets. Best to concentrate on New World

Just come back from a month in New Zealand. Man, their wine is good. Sauvignon blanc, obviously: the reds can be a bit pricey over here but you can get some fantastic pinot noir over there for around a tenner or so.

Actually you may well be right about Sainsburys

Although on the distaff side they have stopped selling Lincolnshire Poacher in their Norfolk stores my brother tells me.

I had enormous fun discovering whether WGC Waitrose stock it yesterday, mainly as I attempted The Cheese Shop sketch from Python!

    Kept me happy!

I've caused great offence by telling foreigners who have asked about Wales, that it is a poor man's England, or England with slightly worse weather and less infrastructure.

seems to be fair enough. on an almost weekly basis i get people asking about places to go when they visit the uk and i always say london, maybe edinburgh if you have the time. the rest is an unrelenting **** hole

We lived there for 5 years. It is very poor but you understate the weather - it is grey and overcast most of the time. The NHS there is no better than 3rd World - it was why we had to sell up and move back near London in order for Mrs S to get proper treatment. I could make your toes curl with stories about the Welsh NHS. On the other hand the people are very very friendly.

English food. You've probably gathered I'm away from home at the moment from some of my recent dislikes, but FFS wherever we go all it is is fish and f*****g chips. I can travel anywhere in the world and find myself a nice little eatery that does wonderful food, (yes even in France), but not in my own country anywhere 20 miles+ from London.

TripAdviser has some fake reviews, but we find that if you use it cautiously you can get decent food all over the country.

I agree with the TripAdvisor thing. Obviously bear in mind that some people will wax lyrical over a **** sandwich whilst others will mark down a great restaurant to 1 star ( would of give it 0 if I could!!!) Because there was a mistake on the bill which was quickly corrected without fuss.

A few minutes' research though and you should be fine.

That's total nonsense. There are some superb restaurants outside London, plus pubs serving great food in both town and country. And even if you are just talking takeaway, there are decent Indians everywhere. I can only conclude that you are living in the 1970s.

Where I would agree with you is that it seems your success rate from just wandering into a place at random in France, Italy, Spain etc. is likely to be higher. But if you do some research, you'll have plenty of decent stuff to choose from in the UK.

The food available in most towns in this country is a lot better than it used to be 10-15 years ago.

You don't think there is good food in the UK.
You are eating in the wrong places, we have variety and some very decent places

Eh? The English restaurant scene is great these days. Plenty of Michelin star places outside of London as well as great gastro pubs for the smaller budget. You're way off on this one imo. Cracking Thai and Indian places if you know where to look as well.

OK, I've been beaten enough since I made the comment. I'll change it to English food in (most) seaside resorts.
