The price will depend on how much interest there is in signing him. I can see him going to Burnley for £10m-£15m to replace Tarkowski if he leaves. I can't see Gino paying that on princple, we will get a cheap signing from one of the Euro leagues, if anyone.

Didn't they do just that when they signed Ben Gibson for £15m from Championship side Middlesbrough last season?

I'm not saying they wouldn't spend £15m on a defender, but not on someone who is in his final year at West Brom. I'd be surprised if they did that. Especially as Gibson has so far not worked out for them, so it could be a case of being a bit cautious this time around. Burnley are probably the closest club in the Premier League to us, in terms of budget and support. £15m is a big outlay for them.

Yes what happened to Gibson ? He was on the verge of the England squad wasn't he but I don't think I've heard his name for a year now ? Burnley reserves ? Injured ?

Injuries as far as I know, only played an hour of PL football this season.

Our squad size currently stands at 29 excluding those under 21.

Prodl, Zeegelaar and Okaka appear definite goners. I think we could then see 3/4 go from a list of Janmaat, Navarro, Pereyra, Foulquier and Lukebakio.

Would leave us space to make 2-3 more signings... RB and a winger (or two) with Min-Jae to join in Jan.

Lukebakio is 21, so getting rid of him would make no difference to the squad size.

Foulquier, Navarro and Penaranda will also probably leave (can't see us keeping all 3 of Penaranda, Success and Pereyra anyway).

Can't envisage another right back as being a top signing priority though (maybe even if Janmaat leaves, which I'd be surprised if he does quite yet).

So, we have 28 players excluding those under 21- getting rid of the 3 you mentioned, plus the 3 I mentioned, will leave 3 spots - winger, striker and CB (touch wood), with any others e.g. full-backs, being on a one in, one out basis.

Lukebakio was born in September 1997. To be classed as an U21 player for this season, he would need to be born on or after 1 January 1998.

Penaranda won't be going anywhere imo, nor can I see us bringing in a striker with Pedro and Cucho arriving next year.

Janmaat's contract expires in 2020 - we'd accept a fair offer from Feyenoord I reckon.

Didn't know that about the under 21 rule, cheers.

On the striker point, even if Pedro and Cucho are in the squad it would be highly unlikely that either will be ready to be the first choice number 9, starting week in week out. I also don't think that Choochoo will ever be that for us, unless he miraculously improves his form and ability next season. Meanwhile Deeney will be 32. We definitely have a gap in the squad for a first-choice striker coming in to their prime.

Also I have seen nothing concrete to indicate Jaanmat is leaving this window. That suggests the Pozzos are happy with the right back spot. Jaanmat might even be offered a short extension. We have alot of fans on here who seem to be willing to sell off our players. Whereas I am happy that most are not actively being sought. Still over 4 weeks to go though.
