Have they never used a computer with Word or an email client, or a phone with auto correct? It's not really an excuse to blame an educational system when there are tools in all our pockets telling us when we've dropped a grammatical stinker on a daily basis.

It's simply that some people care enough to learn the correct use of "there, they're, their," or "too/to" whilst some do not. I find it impossible to believe that some of them have reached middle age without having the opportunity to learn these basics.

 

I don't even recall having to be taught this, I suppose having read the written word it just seems to come naturally to me.
The strangest one of all though in my opinion is the use of the verb "to of"

Some of those comments are laughable. No wonder he was out of work.
