Grammar is just a matter of “personal preference”. Apparently.

    As is racism.

Happy for it to end there.

Grammar is the result of education. There are rules that get taught - if you are unlucky enough not to have been to a school where such things were taught you are unlikely to know the rules of grammar. However the use of "of" instead of "have" is mainly due to a person writing "from speech". We all say should've and could've etc. If nobody ever bothered to explain that the "'ve" was not "of" then how are you supposed to know? Personally I prefer to ignore it and see the points the poster is making and not worry too much about grammar and spelling. My main fault is I am not a good typist and when I type too fast I make mistakes. Happens all the time so I try to read my post and edit it quickly.

Saw the highlights this morning. Massive sweat patches under his armpits and a weird stain on his back FFS.

As debuts go this was appalling.

Hopefully it'll be chillier in Manchester and we'll see a classic scarf/cashmere coat combo.

I take your point about grammar and education but have the people, who use 'of' instead of have, never read a book or even a newspaper. They would never see 'would of', 'should of' or 'could of' etc. written down.

Surely the whole objective of grammar is consistency and clarity in communication. Once we lose this we eventually run into the danger of incomprehension or worse 'miscomprehension'.

It is a failing I have, I suppose, but when I see 'of' used incorrectly, I have a mental picture of the writer and tend to switch off from whatever point he or she is making.

    I completely agree with you.
However not everybody is well educated and I would rather continue to see and hear views of people whose grammar, spelling etc are not perfectly correct than have them fail to contribute due to worry about these matters. In a football forum these assume a lesser degree of importance than if they were writing for a paper or magazine (where I would hope they would be picked up and corrected). I, for one, tend to respond very quickly to posts so am aware both my grammar and spelling (usually due to typos) are not perfect.

OK. But why should people not consider education a life-long thing? Simply following this forum would inform some people, for a start. English schools, which I criticise in many ways, nevertheless get blamed for pretty much everything. It's an easy excuse.
You're right, of course, context is important and we usually get the drift on here without too much effort.

Look - I do agree with you - people could pick it up on here but I suspect those who have no feel for language do not really care. On a forum like this I can live with that.

There’s always a positive spin - for example reading this forum is probably good training for future employment with the Wobby - I find their grammatical use of the written word ‘amazing’ (QSF, no offence).

Hurrah for the Grammar Police is my view.
No harm in us all learning how we should of ritten a sentense with the rite speling and grammer.
And we all probably have pet hates.

As for QSF, I believe we will now start loosing less games..

I agree with all of this except your reaction to Watford winning the FA Cup.

I would of (sic) put a lot of money on a bet that you would NOT have ditched our FA Cup Winning manager/coach last summer.
If Pereyra’s shot had gone in, and we had held on for a famous victory, it would’ve changed everything.

There is not a Watford fan anywhere who is telling the truth if they say they would have sacked Gracia in the summer had we won the FA Cup Final.

    Absolutely zero believability.

Careful, I hear Thom Yorke is looking for a new concept to base an album of impenetrable "rhythms" on.

If, and it's a big stonking if, we avoid relegation it would come across as genius. 3 of the current PL bottom 5 lost in the FA cup semis/final last year and 3 of the bottom 5 in the championship are recent FA cup finalists. If we can condense our FA cup hangover into the giant 360 minute brainfart that was our first 4 games of the season that would be a massive achievement. If QSF can wipe the slate clean and lead us to safety, that would be totally hamazing!!

He was second favourite, until United lost, now OGS has overtaken him. Either way, it's damning considering he's only been at the club for 2 matches.

Why? He's 5th= in line @14/1. That's probably mostly simply because we're the bottom club and Gino's 'reputation'.

If QSF plays a similar team for the Wolves game he should be sacked - no question. He is starting to look like another well known Spaniard

It would be epic, in this season of epic failure, if we manage to sack our new manager after 4 or 5 games.

Call me whatever names you wish, but there’s a decent sized part of me that wants to see this happen just for the laugh of it.
