Those deluded *****s at Abu Dhabi not content with warping the playing field, making a mockery of the rules of governance are trying to flex their muscles on how football should be organized in this nation no doubt thinking the financial crisis awaiting many clubs is perfect leverage.

Just feck off Abu Dhabi and disappear. Amusing to see the howls of anguish from many of their fans who not so long ago were languishing in League One. And the invective aimed at Darragh Macanthony for daring to dispute the issue. They are already depriving clubs of income by their sheer presence and pinching any kid that might be something for pittances. A mechanism that has served long and well to ensure the survival of those lower down the pyramid. And something which we have gone through several times.

I mentioned this on another thread. They really are the scum of the earth aren't they. The quicker they **** off to join a European 'Super' League, the better.

Most detestable club around these days.

I see some of the games involve Man U and Chelsea etc so it's not even the lesser sides so as you say more will cough up to watch them than let's say Fulham v West Brom.

Apart from the fact that the PL clubs should really be making these games available for free to Season Ticket holders where they have taken payment for the season, I don't really see what the problem is. Ok the price is slightly higher but this isn't much different to iFollow or Hive Live. No one is forcing you to pay and there are free alternatives if you're tech savvy enough to find them.

BUT paid up season ticket holders should be getting free access.

PPV on top of a Sky/BT subscription is a bit steep in my view. It didn’t work for Sky years ago but, now that people are used to seeing all their teams games on TV when they can’t attend live, I can see many paying it.

Fair point - I mean if it was £5-7 probably would be less fuss.

I think it's the idea clubs are being greedy but then clubs spend millions on new players and they will find anyway to try and get that money back.

After all football is a business and we are seen as "customers"

In an ideal world all games would be free on the club site as you say.

More sinister plans from Abu Dhabi United. They have set up and fund another team this time in Uruguay. Montevideo City Torque to pilfer local talent and concentrate it in this feeder club. The club was formed only in 2007 so has zero history compared to the likes of Danubio, Penarol, Nacional for instance. Yet they are already second in the top division being funded by petrodollars.

In addition to the presentation of the club's new name and image, the event announced that the group will develop an academy and foundation in Montevideo. The City Football Academy in Uruguay will be the fourth city group has in the world and is expected to be one of the best in the country and a reference in the region.

An agreement was also made with Anglo English High School, so Torque players can learn English, even when they are no longer part of the club. "It's obvious that most of them are going to go to Europe and there the coach is going to speak to them in English," said city group new advisor Pedro Bordaberry.

On the other hand, there will also be an academy where you will seek to attract footballers from an early age. "The reality is that one of the main revenues of Uruguayan football is by recruitment of players, and in the club we don't want to be out of these," Bordaberry explained.

Bordaberry is an Abu Dhabi stooge. Anyone half decent will be shipped to the Emptyhad for peanuts. It's just another devious plan to take and hoover up talent that would go to other clubs in Uruguay and for which they might get a decent recompense if you can call Jose Gimenez being signed for less than a million by Atletico Madrid and now being hawked around for seventy million pounds. I am sure Danubio must be delighted. Seeing as Abu Dhabi and the bald fraud were interested in Gimenez if they could get such a player direct from Uruguay it would save them large sums. They and other clubs like them are a real menace to the fabric of the footballing world acting much as Apple, Google, Amazon and Facebook do with impunity.

Shirley the logical next step is for Manchester City (TM) to found a club in every country on the planet. The all the continents can host, local geographic competitions: The Manchester City (TM) European Cup (C) (R), The Manchester City (TM) Asian Cup (C)(R), The Manchester City (TM) African Cup (C)(R), The Manchester City (TM) Americas Cup (C)(R) and The Manchester City (TM) Oceania Cup (C)(R). The winners of these regional heats would then play for The Manchester City (TM) World Cup (C)(R).

    Thanks.

Absolutely laughable proposals. How on earth do Southampton and West Ham qualify for long-term status? Getting rid of parachute payments would make it nigh on impossible for a club like us to up and stay up. And that’s without getting onto the idea of reducing the division to 18. Reads like a big club wish list and I hope the EFL and lesser PL lights tell them to cram it.

    ******* hilarious.

'Both United and Liverpool – and the rest of the big six: Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea – are growing increasingly concerned by the number of games they are being asked to play.'

Yet I've read they also want to start the league later in August so a Summer EPL competition can be shoe-horned in.

Charge £15 to watch EPL games not covered by SKY & BT because of a revenue shortage due to Covid-19 yet spend £1.5 billion during the transfer window. **** off.

Cut the EPL down to 18 sides - great. But they also want to reduce the amount of EFL clubs by 2 as well, so they're demoting 2 clubs to non-league football to support their own wealth and power. Just **** off.

So many things wrong with these proposals on the back of an agreement with the government to help clubs financially (pandemic driven) who are outside of the EPL.

    **** off Premier League.

    **** off football.

If the top clubs had their way the Premier League would consist of just 6 clubs.

This 18 club league has to be avoided. It would mean you'd have to finish 15th or above to avoid the threat of relegation. The play off idea isn't too bad though. Third from bottom being part of the play off mix with three Championship clubs.

Surprised they want to scrap the community shield. It's a meaningless match, but it's a season opener and a glorified friendly at Wembley. Usually contested between two top six clubs. A cheap chance of glory, and I thought they'd be all for that.

Removal of clubs playing in European competition from the League Cup is also fine.

They are against it but the chairman of the EFL, Rick Parry is all for it and has thrown his full support behind it. I wonder what the 72 clubs he represents think of this.

The only surprise in the proposal is that it did not include B teams which Abu Dhabi seem so keen on

The Community Shield raises funds through gate (& hopefully TV) revenue for national & local causes, it's far from meaningless.
It is a curtain raiser to the season and now more than ever would be the perfect way for football to at least look like it gives a flying **** for the less fortunate members of society. I think the reason they want it removed from the calendar is because it gets in the way of more lucrative (for them) friendlies and the possibility of a new EPL Summer Cup that has been mooted.

I think having the EPL side in the play-offs would leave that club with a serious advantage because of the spending power the Premier League would have afforded them, even for one season. If you finish 3rd from bottom then you must have had a rotten season - tough. Go down and let those who have fought tooth & nail in the same division battle it out for that final promotion place. To me it's a way of providing a safety net just in case one of the EPL 'family' has an off year. Been **** for 38 games? That's okay, go and beat Millwall and Bristol City then come home and buck your ideas up for next season.

And by removing clubs from the League Cup I think the next step would be to take away the European place from the winners. That will probably go to another EPL side for finishing 11th but for chrissakes, don't let anyone else have a chance of qualifying. The League Cup will become meaningless and, if not scrapped altogether, it will be a competition where every small club (non-EPL) can still have their chance of a Wem-ber-leeeee final but instead of facing mix-&-match sides from the top flight, it'll be U23 sides playing instead. Pointless for anyone not in the top division.

    **** The EPL

Best case scenario is Rick Parry is a useful idiot in this. His Liverpool links cast a lot of doubt on that though.

I see the EFL statement says 25% of Premier League ‘media net revenues’ will be shared with the EFL under the plan. Lovely. But what happens 2-3 years down the line when the big 6 force a vote to cut that to 10% (or less)? The rules changes mean they couldn’t be opposed and the EFL is screwed. The whole thing is so short sighted.

I can see Parry being removed from his role pretty sharpish. His remit is to fight for the interests of clubs in the Football League not his Cesspool love. The so called top six are shameless parasites. There is no way the other PL clubs or EFL clubs will accommodate this. These scumbags think because many clubs are in a parlous state they will take whatever is offered without a second thought. Appalling opportunism. Who do they think they are ?

If they want to sod off and create their pathetic Super League do it. Their fans most of them plastics will soon get tired of it. But if they ever do come crawling back let them start at the very bottom of the pyramid. Reducing matches ? Laughable. These clubs would like to get rid of the league structure entirely, do away with internationals just so they could globetrot playing endless games to line their coffers in front of all the plastics who watch abroad. Everyone with a brain cell can see through their transparent lies and what their ultimate aim is.

The play-off proposal is of course how the original play-offs were conceived when they were rearranging the number of clubs in the top two divisions in the late 80s. At the time I was surprised they abandoned the idea in favour of what we’ve been used to ever since, but now I agree it would be heavily in favour of the PL team.

That was my thoughts on the proposal, plus they will probably use their voting rights to screw the lower PL teams with the revenue distribution, something they have been trying to do for a while anyway just to make sure they continue to rule the roost.

interesting how West Ham and Southampton are selected as the special partners but not the team who has won the league and is trying to break into the top 6

Agreed that the Community Shield is important as a way of making football look like it cares, but wasn't it renamed from the Charity Shield because they realised so little of the proceeds actually ended up going to charity?

I'd like to think most clubs will oppose this, surely your lower Prem clubs might be nervous at the prospect of an 18 team league, and Championship clubs with hopes of breaking into the Prem would have reason to reject this, but I wonder what the smaller teams with little chance of making it to the Premier League will say?

  32. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

What pisses me off about this is that there are some excellent ideas in there, some that will really benefit the game and wouldn't cost the big clubs much in the grand scheme of things, but they have to demand this that and the other in exchange, don't they?

True - tbf the league one and two clubs unlikely to get ever get close to the Premier league would probably like a bit more money but as you say it's a ruse for the top 6 to get their own way.

One minute could have been sent off for taking out Van Dijk then the next producing an excellent save.

Was an awful challenge on Van Dijk. I hope it's not a long term injury for him like the one he deliberately caused on Deulofeu was.

Actually I do hope it is. I hate the overrated ****.
