Isn’t it fairly ironic (potentially even suspicious?) That Fifa resisted any sort of technology at all for so long, and the suspicion was it was because they liked the publicity and controversy created around bad decisions.

This Brighton one makes no sense, initial foul outside the box but they’re saying it’s for the second contact in the box, how can you give a penalty for contact after a foul has already been given? Never mind that if you’re giving it for the second contact and somehow ignoring a foul has already occurred and, been given out of the box, it’s about as soft as they come.

VAR itself in terms of the technology is an inanimate object, it’s not to blame, but if you’ve got stupid morons as officials the technology will amplify their stupidity not reduce it.

 

Absolutely. The standard of officiating is woeful. VAR just allows them to look like idiots in slow motion. Utterly utterly incompetent.

This second foul in incident reminds me of the Kane goal disallowed at Sheff Utd last season. Moura going towards box, blatant trip by Sheff Utd defender. Player falls and it hits the back of his thumb as he tumbles Ref plays advantage Kane scores. VAR oh it’s handball. Okay so free kick to Spuds on edge of box? Nope Sheff get a free kick despite being the ones who did the cynical foul.

 

I remember that incident and it was absolutely farcical. Maybe it is an actual rule then, but if it is, then it’s an absolutely ridiculous rule, devoid of any common sense what so ever.
