    Typical Spurs !

Nice pick me up for Newcastle.

So much for VAR only favouring the big teams.

    Can’t see how that wasn’t a penalty

Such a blatant pen. Ridiculous decision to not give that.

Kane fell over Lascelles, he wasn't pulled down by him. Correct decision for me.

Looks like VAR are being anti big team as Spurs just had a clear penalty denied it seems.

Lascelles made no attempt to win the ball, while launching himself ridiculously across the floor, and collided with Kane’s leg. He doesn’t have to pull him down for it to be a foul. It’s a penalty for me.

VAR already being brought into disrepute by the stupid and conservative way the PL are using it.

Lascelles fell into Kane, Kane would’ve easily got the ball if he hadn’t have collided with his legs.

As clear a penalty as you will get, what’s the point in having VAR if they’re too scared to overrule the original decision? Totally pointless.

Spurs couldn't break Newcastle down but our bunch of idiots will. Lol.

There will certainly be break downs a plenty next weekend.

Oh dear Toon win at Totttingham - we’re rock bottom.
    Pressure pressure pressure on Javi.

I get your point but totally different circumstances, they’ll be at home playing the bottom team not away to a top 6 team. The onus will be on them to actually try and attack.

Wolves get a 97th minute penalty via VAR - cue a Sean Dyche rant!

What I’m struggling with when it comes to the Spurs non-decision is we seem to now be in a position where two totally contradictory situations can arise:

    A) as with actual events, Dean doesn’t give it and VAR decides there’s not enough grounds to overturn
    B) or Dean gives it and VAR decides there’s not enough ground to overturn

So what’s the point in VAR? It’s supposed to be a safety net for referees, to correct obvious mistakes, not a shield against all threats to their decision-making.

They will argue it wasn’t a clear and obvious enough mistake. But, hey, I agree with you let’s scrap VAR for all our sakes!

They’ll argue that but they’re setting the bar too high in my opinion. We’re now in a situation where most neutrals think something was a penalty, yet VAR sticks with the on-field decision because it wasn’t wrong enough. It defeats the object.

I don’t really get how it wasn’t clear and obvious though. If Lacelles body was 180 degrees and he fell in with his legs it would’ve been as clear a penalty as you could get. Somehow because he fell in front first it’s not clear and obvious? Kane was very close to the ball and would’ve got it had Lacelles not collided with his legs? The ball wasn’t played in anyway, so surely it’s just a textbook penalty?

And I think that’s the spirit in which it was intended to operate. To overturn the real howlers, not the debatable ‘could go either way’ decisions. I would also like to see that approach extended to include the ludicrous ‘toenail’ offside calls, which can never be ‘clear and obvious’ errors. Stop striving for perfection.

I get where you’re coming from. And obviously we don’t know what Dean said to Taylor as the check was happening. But the PL has consciously sidelined the pitchside tv monitor, which means instead of the on-field ref being left to decide if he’s made a clear and obvious error, a pal in Stockley Park who realises he’ll be in the firing line next week is doing it instead. It inspires a natural bias towards leaving things as they are. And that then defeats the object of involving technology.

It’s not yet clear when something will be so blatantly wrong as to justify overturning. I’m concerned the bar is so high it’ll essentially neuter VAR completely. Fine if that’s the medium-term intention of the authorities over here. But pointless if we’re going to the extent of piping graphics into stadiums and replays onto tv trumpeting it’s existence.

Guaranteed. Even if we fluke a win, it looks as though a good percentage of us want Javi gone! Seriously though, the results today make our start look even worse.

Can't they just build robots to ref games? Surely AI must be close. Can't be much worse than the crap in this country.

Like last year when Citeh scored a goal against us last year, despite an offside in the build-up? Don't worry, i'm sure it'll happen again.

Kane was leaning on the defender and away from the ball. As the defender went down he had no one to hold him up so fell over getting even further from the ball. No foul.

  24. a19tgg

Thats really not what happened. Kane was leaning in that direction but the defender cut across his path and chucked himself into his legs. As I said, if the defender was 180 degrees and took him out with a leg, however minimal the contact and irrespective of where Kane is leaning or running to, it’s a pen. Doesn’t matter where Kane is leaning, his first contact with the defender is when his body takes his legs out.

Obviously a matter of options. I think Kane and the ball were going in opposite directions so not a penalty.

    England squad announced :

AWB and Mings the new boys - with Walker dropped/rested .

Former has been catching the eye a lot and moving to Man U has probably helped his cause .

Will the in form Maddison and Mount get a chance ahead of someone like Lingard ?

The fact Lingard is even in the squad is beyond a joke.

Absolute dog **** player. Another that gets by on an unwarranted reputation for nothing.

Villa paying out already most likely.
