Then you're differentiating between a foul and a pen. If that happens on the halfway line, it's a free kick all day long. A 'soft' pen isn't the same as a non pen; whatever Richarlison's motivation as he went past (not alongside) him, he was pushed/ kneed sufficiently to knock him over, and the reaction of Bellerin and his colleagues tells you plenty about that.
I don't think they're directly comparable, as Cassetti was goal side of Knockaert and the latter appeared to push the ball past and look for a leg to go over, i.e. It involved a higher degree of creation. All made a lot worse for me by Oliver's theatricals when awarding it, which gave the impression of wanting to be credited with an assist.
Wasnt Bellerin also goalside? Didnt Richarlison also push the ball in front of him? and didnt Knockaert throw himself theatrically to the ground because of the hand on him nothing to do with legs? or am i thinking of two completely different penalty decisions?
True, but that meams an arm on the back or neck of the falling player is not the decisive factor as was implied and the point I was making.
As far as Saturday's goes, it depends on interpretation of goalside, yes, Bellerin was nearer goal but Rich had got the half yard ahead in relation to the ball and touchline, as I recall it, and that's what I meant by goalside. It's a long time since I saw the Knockaert one, and perhaps the memory is playing tricks.
Yes.. i went back and had a look at the Leicester game. Always best to check No coming together of legs or seemingly looking for that. Just a hand on his shoulder and possibly a bullet fired from the EJ Stand though that was hard to see in the clip. Carry on.
It was, Troy scored it and now that's official. There was enough contact (4 points of) to bring RDA down, IMO the only argument is that after his punt forward he could not have caught up with the ball so the foul should have been irrelevant [some refs occasionally let things go for this reason but it's not the rules].
I'm not sure it's such a positive affirmation of the referee's decision but it's certainly not undermined it. I suppose we should embrace Richarlison being reviewed. We're as much in the spotlight now as we've ever been and it's a symptom of riding high. The FA take complaints from all comers but naturally clubs and TV influence a lot of what they look at. I don't think there's any more sensible way to do it really.
I agree. Despite the illusion we are once again persecuted by the press it is a far cry from the Wimbledon II tag we were labelled with in the eighties ... Of course it will come but it won't be anywhere near as easy for them to hoodwink viewers as opposed to readers So long as we succumb to Spurs we'll be alright.
Wfc YouTube channel have released the “other angle” video. All I can say is they need to send it to all the ******** pundits and referees who were calling for richarlison to be banned for 2 games.
Just what I thought, and I've now revised my original opinion of 50/50 to one of definite foul, as anywhere else on the pitch and you'd be penalised for it, no questions asked. You can clearly see the shove in the back, as well as the knock on his leg. Going at full speed, he had no chance of staying on his feet. Made a slow-mo gif from the video:
Thanks ... I'd say that's clear as day. So all that b0ll0cks just because BT could only show it from the knee down! ... Hackett, Poll, Wenger you are the weakest link!
Wow, when you look at that other angle it’s simply just a straightforward penalty. Thanks BT for wasting a lot of people at time unnecessarily. The other point is we are all looking at it from Richarlisons point of view, did he go down easy, was he looking for it etc. But what about the defenders point of view? Generally premier league defenders aren’t stupid, Bellerín has managed to get a sneaky Knee and and a shove in the back, which he thinks the Ref (wrongly) won’t be able to see. It doesn’t have to be balatant as a Briton tackle to be a penalty, Bellerín is effectively attempting the defenders version of ‘simulation’ trying to subtley bring the attacker down without it being obvious. It’s something we saw Amrabat do about 100 times a game.
That's a good video, cheers @Jossy for posting it. OK maybe not a million years, perhaps a hundred or so. The way he leaves his right leg hanging behind as he goes down is over exaggerated. I'm not getting into HB1 territory so will leave it there, and the fact I was first out of my seat to scream for a penalty also means I'm a hypocrite.
He means 6 as in I know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody eventually to knowing Richarlison.
Oh those kinda contacts. Thinking about it, big Isaac also had '4 points of contact' on the Baileys night.. though ultimately he didnt actually connect with any
Sky singing Richarlison's praises now http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-proving-his-worth-to-watford-and-marco-silva
I counted four points/places of contact, more out of frustration after hearing the ridiculous nonsense coming from seemingly every pundit's mouth - Poll originally said there was zero contact! I know I shouldn't care what they think, but my worry was more about the future repercussions for Richarlison if he was to have been labelled - unfairly - a diver. It's possible that even though he's been exonerated, he'll still receive this tag.
I was just kidding.. as in four points at the same time = octopus. Regardless of this incident i still say he has been showing signs of South American Acapulco tricks. Noticed it in a few games and was starting to get a little frustrated with him. *Lights blue touch-paper.. stands back a safe distance*
To be honest I was very much in the, no penalty, no dive camp but on looking at the wfc YouTube footage felt it was worth drawing attention to. Richarlison may, in some eyes, have gone to ground too easily, but it sure looks a lot more like a pen from the wfc camera.
Thank you Watford Football Club. Watching that video, then reading this thread again, made me laugh so heartily that my next door neighbour came round to find out if I had been attacked by a stray pack of hyenas. I'm going to do it again...
That video shows it as a stone wall I wonder how many apologies Richarlison and the referee will get following people viewing that at 2.02 onwards
Not a bad idea that considering how many posts you either misread or didnt understand the first time round.
Reads pretty good to me mate. Particularly like your comment regarding Long's upstanding piece of work: "Just seen footage of that and.. i give up. He's proper clattered into him! Far more a clear cut penalty than ours was. I think some of you must be wearing the thickest Horn(et) rimmed glasses available." I don't think I miss-read that bit of naive cods-wallop. Edit: I could take the moral high ground and say that I apologised immediately for getting your comment wrong, though it made little difference to what I was saying. You might show a little grace yourself perhaps?
Well not on the line you quoted there because if you read it in context i was replying to someone who said that Long had dived.. i even quoted the post.. and he wasnt the only one that said it. You decided to tear into my post on the grounds of him kicking the ball out of play.. fine he probably did but it didnt change the fact that he clearly didnt dive. You then went on to deride a comment i'd made about players going down easier in modern football and it made it out like i was talking about, what was it, the "much lamented good old days of outstanding sportsmanship" This after i'd already said there were times it happened in the past but i felt it was more prevalent now and that the psyche of the game had changed. I wasn't exactly saying that was i? Reading back my comments and your OTT reactions to them, well i dont think you should be claiming too much grace meself.
