Yeah but hardly going to boost morale beating a team several leagues below us in a cup that doesn’t matter
I'm going tonight mostly because I would like to see of the other players given a chance and to see if they can improve the first team. I know in the past we've been rubbish in this round but I remember turning up for these games and not even knowing who half the players were! I like Gomes but surely we need to be playing Bachman or Dahlberg in this game. I'm sure we will lose but at least the weather will be nice
Last season we were away both times but before than we have lost the previous 3 times at homes to Bristol city, gillingham and Doncaster . Our last win at home was 6 years ago when we beat BMuff 2 weeks after we had beaten them 6-1 in the league. Surely we can conjure up a win after all this time in this competition let alone for those of us yet to see us win at home since Fulham before the semi. Those consecutive home wins v Everton , Leicester and then Fulham seem so long ago
I suppose its a balancing act. Giving development time to the kids plus de-rusting some of the experienced players who may be waiting to step in at the first injury/suspension.
With the non penalty decisions? The club didn't help on Saturday when not announcing it was being used.
How so? Proper bantz down the pub about the fact that it's soooo controversial. I thought the debate was dead but it's SUPER CHARGED. After all, that's what it's all about.
Maybe that's the gag but if going for a reference to a sponsor from a few decades ago, I'd rather go for The Now Defunct High Street Electrical Retailer Cup.
I would go with a strong line up and try and get something to build on even if it is only against Coventry City. If we get beat tonight it will really be a disastrous start to the season. I would like to see something like this Gomes Janmaat Massina Mariappa Cathcart Cleverly Quina Doucoure Sarr Welbeck Gray
I normally hate doing line-ups etc but I want some changes tonight so I'm drawn to do so... GK - Bachmann LB - Masina CB - Kabasele CB - Dawson RB - Janmaat CM - Capoue (C) CM - Quina RW - Sarr LW - Welbeck CAM - Hughes FW - Gray If Chalobah is fit to start, then maybe rest Capoue - but I would want him as captain really. Maybe put Chalobah next to Capoue and push Quina forward and drop Hughes. But I would like to see Hughes in that CAM position. If Bachmann (or even Dahlberg) don't start, I really see no point in them being here this season and they should be sent off on loan ASAP. No other 'regulars' deserve to play. Dawson only gets in for me as I think he needs game time as a new signing. Gray plays as I want him to get a run of games to see if he can go on a goal-scoring run. Dropping him after scoring is counter-productive.
We'll I have been taking a stance behind Javi so far, but if he does play Gomes tonight, I will join the rest of you and as far as I am concerned he can get on his bike. Must give Bachmann a game and put Dahlberg on the bench IMHO else they might just as well not be here.
Utterly pointless having the 3 keepers in reserve. Who will he play if Foster is injured or loses form ? That's the guy who should play tonight and, if that's Gomes, B & D are in danger of wasting a season rotting in the reserves.
If only Gomes never signed that extension. He's a good keeper and quite a club servant. But he is third or fourth choice now.
