    Man Utd 4 - 0 Watford

Bruno Penandes guaranteed at least one goal from the spot. Kabasele likely sent off conceding at least one penalty.

More likely that neither will play.

We'll see what the papers say the lineups are once the game actually happens in a month or so.

We can check the lineup as printed in the Telegraph newspaper versus the lineup printed on the Telegraph website, just to make sure that one hasn't made a mistake.

Hmmm. Looks like Bruno has been a regular in cup games since he joined Man Utd. You’ve made a bold assertion without evidence to support it. That’s all I’m saying.

Don't really care if we lose, as we can probably do without the additional fixtures this season if we hope to go back up.

I think Dave at the local Chippy might get the news first. Large cod and chips with team selection written on the underside of a batter soaked grease paper.

Oh yeah, good draw. First out.

Looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to get our revenge of Man City.

    How football has died.

In premier league = get knocked out of cups as it might cost us relegation.

In championship = get knocked out of cups as it might cost us promotion.

What a tepid timid existence. I used to remember everyone being excited about a 3rd round league cup game when we had a squad of 16. And FA Cup 3rd round day was the bum duffer!

Football fans have a lot to do with that. Every year it was some weird excuse by the usual suspects on here as to why we shouldn't try in the FA Cup.

Year 1 - need to be more established in the PL
    Year 2 - as above
Year 3 - too many games might go down
Year 4 - we'll never win it anyway
Year 5 - can't go through that again/I've thrown the flag away

But fan apathy is there because a handful of teams win it and that's it. What's the point? There is no point in the cup unless you are a member of the 'big 6' as you just won't win it anyway.

TV companies still hype it because of the viewing figures and those big 6 wins bring the viewers. There was a reason our game with Wolves was a 2nd choice over Man City's borefest semi final on BBC One.

The FA Cup is *****, like most of football. Mugs game if you support anyone other than the big boys. Lethargic football teams with lethargic fans happy for the day out.

Does fan apathy exist at levels below the Championship? I imagine any supporters of Marine and Stockport will be pretty excited at the draw, although they would be much more so if they could attend the matches.

I think the apathy kicks in around Round 5.

Millwall visiting the Wood? How many do you think they'll let in?

You aren't wrong. It's the football version of being one of those comedy acts on the early rounds of Britain's Got Talent. Marine get their day in the sun, get a spanking by Spurs, make a bit of cash, go back to normal. Everyone pats them on the head and says jolly well done. Everyone can bask in the 'magic of the FA Cup'.

Whilst the next game on BBC One is Man Utd vs Watford for no reason other than viewing figures.

    Magic.

And League Cup. It’s all part of the magic of the sport being sucked out due to financial priorities/necessities. I remember in the 80s or early 90s someone switching their home game to an away game on “safety” grounds. That was the beginning of the end. And the first time Man Utd first fielded reserves in league cup. And then they pulled out of FA Cup!

    I’m welling up here!

We're tier 2 what's Millwall? Also what are FA cup ticketing rules is it 25% for away fans? Broughinge Road (I'm sad) has two newish stands, 4500 capacity (1700 seated)... I'm guessing 250 Lions?

EDIT: All figures pulled out of my arse.

    Yup.

    Used to love the cup.

Should be the fixture with the most buzz, third round of the FA Cup.

I get the clubs tend to care more about the money. But what happened to stop fans caring?

I'd like to see us play our best team and try and win, please.

It's about the glory of a cup upset and memories to last a lifetime (Although understandably not so memorable if we're not there to witness it).

    Usually. But not always.

Newport County beat Leicester 2-1 on TV in the 3rd Round only two years ago, for example.

I also recall lowly Tranmere thrillingly coming back from a 3-0 deficit at PL giants and beaten Cup Finalists Watford last season.

Here's a quote from club chairman Danny Hunter's statement (from 4/11/20):

A dream would be, as we have a very good relationship with the Gooner Filth (we're home to Arsenal Ladies)...

The "magic of the sport" is still there, it's just moved to the League and the Champion's League.

The Sunday Times devoted a full page to Bruno Fernandes, including this: "Cristiano Giaretta, the Watford sporting director who discovered Fernandes for the Italian side Novara explained the player's mentality as wanting "to be not one of the best, but the best."

Let's hope Giaretta hasn't lost his touch, and that we can get a few more like that.

All part of dislodging that absolute car crash Claude Puel. I was at a point with him where I was actually willing teams to beat us heavily if it was clear we weren’t getting anything from a game.

Nope, there's no 'magic' in watching Southampton beat West Ham or Athletico Madrid beating Roma.

You know what, I take it back. I hope Forest smash you tomorrow night and your muggy little club never recovers.
