We just need to play positive football. Attack our opponents instead of being worried about them. Definitely a top two then. As I've said there's no stand out team in the Championship. There's an early show of optimism after the Norwich game we just need to show the same passion against Swansea and the points are ours.

The prediction says that we have a higher chance of finishing second (14%) than fourth (11%).

Until the transfer window has closed any predictions could be way off. There will always be a team that has a cracking second half of the season and come from nowhere and to balance a team near the top falling away, I don't think Reading will be in the play offs at the end.

    Yes, yes and quite possibly.
Have I simply missed a dedicated thread? I can find no reference on this forum (apart from a couple of tangential mentions from me) to the fact that we have just sold one of our best ever midfielders and also signed a player called Philip Zinckernagel. Given some of the stuff that is sometimes discussed on here I find that a bit odd.

To be fair I think Norwich will be consistent enough but I can see the rest losing points as well.

So, Bournemouth beat Stoke, good result for us or not? Is the aim just to get play-offs now?

Scoring a goal that Gray or Deeney would have scored five years ago but not now.
As for the question.irrelevant I'd say unless there's a major shift.

The aim is to win the league, but unless we sign a striker, even a play off place is unlikely.

A lot will depend on how Zinckernagel and how he joins up the attack. Hopefully he'll be our Championship Geri, but we're so poor up front that one new attacking winger is not going to fix this problem.

Perica, Deeney, Gray, Murray, Success, Penaranda are all flops. Crazy but true. We need a young, dynamic, pacey striker. Why the hell didn't we sign Toney? Well we didn't and that £5m outlay we decided not to make will probably cost us a £100m promotion bonanza.

I think that's harsh on Lord Percy as he's had so little game time.
I'd rather him with Freddie,Cuddly and Winklepicker than The Dangerous Brothers.

    Brooks comes on, Bournemouth score.

Wish we had a player like him. I'm sure if we did, we'd have sold him for £3m.

All our strikers have certain elements to their game which is quite decent. Even Gray. But none of them can score goals (anymore).

The way I judge a striker is how do they react when they’ve got time. Anyone can score an instinctive goal where they just catch the ball right, but when they are through on goal and have time, how do they deal with the situation. This is where all our strikers fail. None can finish in these moments.

Gray has pace, works hard and runs the channels. He cannot finish though and ALWAYS mishits his shot.

Deeney is a good target man. His link up play is usually pretty good, but he’s slow and rarely gets a chance in open play. When he does he’s been fluffing the lot in recent times.

Perica looks ok and seems mobile with a bit of pace, but again he’s missed four great chances this season.

Murray has proven ability but age has caught up with him and can’t even make the bench under two coaches.

Success is a big strong lad, but can’t stand up. A gust of wind sends him crashing to the floor and he can’t finish either.

The Pozzo’s have to sign a quality striker, and fund it with their own money if they have to, or else they’ll be counting the cost of missing out on promotion.

The strikers we have will not score enough goals. Deeney 1 (excluding penalties), Gray 0 (I’m not giving him that one which brushed his sock on the way in even though technically he was awarded it), Perica 1, Murray 0.

It’s a dreadful return and how much money is it costing the club to have these players here?

You speak like there are no current other options than Deeney and Gray. There are. But no coach will dare try it now. We could sign ******* Zlatan and he'd be on the bench.

If it's true that Toney wanted to come here and we weren't willing to shell out £5m when they knew full well that Suarez wanted out, I fail to see where the money or motivation to sign anyone close to his level comes from. For remotely close to that fee.

They simply won't gamble on signings anymore. For whatever reason. Maybe they've been stung over the Gray transfer, maybe they don't want to spend due to other reasons like cashing out. Who knows.

I reckon we're ******* skint, didn't make nearly enough in sales (very unlucky with the pandemic that we couldn't raise more for the South Americans and Geri, but still, poor dealings had left us with a load of **** has-beens) in the summer given that I bet a fair chunk of the fees are ones we won't have received yet. If we're lucky we pull the plug on Murray and then happen across a decent young striker (or Dwight Hayle) on loan from a Prem club, but even then, we'll need at least one midfielder to really have any hope of automatics

I presume GD is still on the wage bill as he is only out on loan?

The Pozzo wage bill yes, because they own both clubs, but that's not a very good loan deal if officially-speaking the club who don't get to play him is still paying a player's wages. Not all of them, anyway.

Gap starting to second starting to open up now after we'd already lost touch with Norwich. Have to hope we can stay in touch with the play off chasers long enough until Xisco inevitably gets replaced.

We are obviously not good enough for automatic promotion and without a decent window we will struggle for the play-offs. If we do finish in the top 6 I doubt we will be good enough to secure the third promotion spot unless there is drastic improvement. It could be the start of a serious downward spiral.

  33. It's clear to me we are going to be in the championship for several years. We may as well sell Sarr etc, recover some cash, and learn to start investing it wisely. Hook or by crook we need Deeney and Gray off the books in the summer even if we have to come to an accommodation.

Our next 5 games are crucial. This will tell us if Swansea a blip, are we going for a top two position, are we just play off or are we on a slide trying to get to 50 points and avoiding a double relegation. For me, all scenarios are possible.

Today is probably the lowest I've felt since relegation. I've always maintained we're going to go up as Champions. That dream is over now, but second place is still up for grabs.

We have two big issues on the pitch. Central strikers and midfield. It's a really big concern, and is a lot to expect Zinckernagel to resolve both issues, although he could certainly help (hopefully).

For me big question marks over appointing a rookie coach. Sure, the bounce was there against Norwich, but yesterday was a worrying performance. I think players lose heart when they know the team doesn't score goals. We conceded a couple of soft goals yesterday and every player knows that's fatal to Watford. We have to keep clean sheets in order to win in the majority of cases. Mentally conceding goals kills belief.

So we've now got Huddersfield (h ), Barnsley (h ), Stoke (a ), Millwall (a ), QPR (h ). It's not impossible to expect 15 points, however we know it will probably be something under that. If it's only 9 points or under, then I think you can give up on automatic promotion. If it's a lot under 9 points then I think Munoz will be under pressure to keep his job.
