This thread is doing my nut in. If we didnt play Brentford and Swansea in the last 5 games I would say it was done.

Those games just give them a sniff. They just need to get to "striking" distance (not impossible) and then beat us (not impossible). All we need is a matchday where we lose and they win and its ****** pants time. I dont think its akin to nostradamus to be concerned by it. We just need a good weekend out of 5 to be off into the sunset.

I think taking it one game at a time is the best advice
If Swansea should drop points they may not even bother for our game as they will be prepping playoffs, this would make our run in slightly easier and five games out who knows what twists are ahead.
Let's just hope if there are twists they favour us.

It does make you wonder if the football gods scheduled those last two games for a reason....

I'll take away his hamburger supply!! Luther has just been given the freedom of Watford, surely its time Troy was banned from the town. We are so much better than what he represents, as is every single other player in our squad. I guess this is how a lot of Brazilians feel being represented by Bolsonaro. #notinmyname

To clarify, we dont actually play games we discuss them.
I think discussing one upcoming game is most sensible rather than all five as we cannot see what permutations lie ahead.
Panicking about what Brentford and Swansea are at this stage is pointless.
Swansea might not even be in the race when we play or they could be challenging for second, we just need to beat Luton and then win all the other games we have.
I certainly dont think (as you suggest I might) that we play two games at a time, that's ridiculous.

Sorry dude, was just a playful joke, no harm intnded. I agree entirely that all we can do is wait and see, the endless permutations and discussions are some peoples coping mechanisms...

If it was not for our dire financial position I would enjoy this promotion race and not be mortified if we ended up staying in the Championship for one more year. But I know the financial consequences of failing to gain promotion this year and the inevitability of losing Sarr and others of our better players.

Yes, the thought of winning promotion is exciting. The thought of being back in the EPL leaves me feeling empty. But financially we need to be there now or risk dropping down the leagues or worse, going bust.

Unfortunately I think we will get 2nd spot by 6 or 7 points.
As a masochist and wanting exciting nervous games I wouldn't object to both our last 2 games having something on them!:D

Yes, exactly the same. If we could keep the same team next season then I’d be half hoping we didn’t go up and therefore could enjoy the remaining games whatever was thrown up. The reality is if we don’t go up our current team will be stripped bare and replaced with championship cloggers, and even lower level players from the Udinese bargain bin. So it’s either that, or the grinding drudgery of trying to keep our heads above water in TM The greatest league in the world.

Yes, promotion should at least mean that we should have a fairly decent side in the championship in 2 years time.

Brentford should, to use up their game in hand without causing fixture congestion.

For every good game in this league, there are four teams of cloggers on terrible pitches trying to get away with as many fouls as possible.

I thought I missed the Championship, but I actually miss Championship away matches to stadiums I haven’t been to before. Without fans, the championship is just as soulless as the premier league, just with worse quality streams.

This was taken from an Athletic article today, despite having a 89.5% chance to go up in 2nd place, it really doesn't feel as secure as the number suggests.

I won't believe we're up until we've beaten Wolves, had a boring 0-0 against Palace, and got smashed for a cricket score by Man City.

    Then we'll be back.

Unfortunate that Rotherham lost last night. Seems their fixture overload is finally taking its toll. Would have been out of the bottom 3 and with games in hand if they’d won at home to relegation rivals Coventry last night but lost and only 4 shots with zero on target. Remain 4 points adrift. Really need them to still be fighting for survival when they play Brentford rather than exhausted AND resigned to relegation.

The model is presumably over simplified, just assumes recent form continues and maybe doesn’t take account of opposition. I’m sure we are favourites but 90% doesn’t seem right.

The models are the same reason why people argued against PPG to decide league positions if last season was scrapped. They makes no allowances for what actually makes football football.

  28. Chumlax

They did literally beat QPR two days beforehand though, and with their two games in hand they could currently overhaul everyone up to Coventry in 18th in the places above them when goal difference is taken into account, theoretically, so I don't think this most recent loss has actually dented that drive hugely.

Besides, their role at Brentford is surely as much about being a group of warm bodies forcing the Bees to run about for a full 90 minutes and expose themselves to injury risk just a few days before our match whilst we recline gloriously on the deck chairs at Colney.

  29. UEA_Hornet

Yup. I (and I imagine most people) will have already factored Brentford beating Rotherham into their forecasts. If we're relying on another outcome there we will really will be fooked.

They were absolutely dire against a relegation rival where they would have climbed out of the bottom 3 with a win. Yes great win against QPR as I said at the time but they aren’t going to get any fresher and yesterday was the biggest game of their season. The equivalent of our game at Brentford for Brentford if we are in range.

Would have been a tougher game for Brentford if Rotherham have a decent chance of escaping. More likely to nick something. It doesn’t get easier than playing an already relegated team near the end of the season in front of an empty stadium. Hopefully they get points at the weekend.

We stopped Reading going into Uefa Cup in 2007 when all they needed was 3 points. Beat them 2 0 away and we were down.

Already relegated teams have nothing to worry about because their outcome is already known. They sometimes they play without any fear .

    Absolutely agree.

The next 5 (or up to 8) games will define at least the next decade for our club.

    No pressure lads.

Occasionally. More often they play without any care. If you think knackered Rotherham will be a bigger challenge for Brentford in an empty stadium if they have nothing to play for, than if they are still fighting for their lives, then fine that's your opinion.
