Dunno - isn't the Villa/City rivalry "pwoper nawty - like" and I suppose a pi$$ed-up plastic paddy (apols.) taking exception to Grealish turning his back on the old country might not have helped.

Supporters did, not the club though. I still think you have to punish the fan/fans but not the club unless they are dedemed to have been really negligent eg turning down police advice for more cops etc, that sort of thing.

Presumably, anyone doing this sort of thing can expect a prison sentence. That would, I imagine, act as something of a deterrent to anyone planning such a stunt in an attempt to cause problems for a rival club. Although yesterday's incident would have been even more entertaining if Grrealish's assailant had been wearing a full Birmingham kit

You presume right. The Brum fan has just been given 14 weeks inside. Plus £100 compo he has to pay to Grealish and banned from all football grounds for 10 years.

Yes but this is an extreme to cause a prison sentence and good to see.
My comment was the more general comment that any punishment for the club, eg points deductions, for fans misbehaving might cause more lower level disobedience like running on the pitch, crowd trouble etc from fans masquerading as a supporter of their rivals.

  6. A £350 fine, of which £100 goes to Grealish.

Sounds a bit unlikely to me. I think these things tend to be spontaneous acts of lunacy rather than pre-planned action designed to undermine a rival. But you never know

There are thousands of reports regarding this incident stating that a Birmingham City fan ran on the pitch and hit an Aston Villa player, can I just put the record straight and correct the reports that the assailant was not a fan!, a thug, an idiot, a lunatic maybe, but not a fan!

Bit like Blackpool in League One - from play-off contenders to relegation battlers..

Losses in last 3 years are £5m then £16m increasing to £37m last year so total of £58m v FFP allowance of £35m so seems clear cut they are in breach.

Funded £73m by Hong Kong based owner

Since Chris Hughton left to go to Norwich at end of 2011/12 season they are now on their 8th manager - crikey that's only one less than us

Wasn't the last owner jailed which just about sums it up?

We got lucky with the Pozzos coming in to save us from Red Hat Bas...

But they are bad for English football of course.

Ipswich relegated. 17 years in championship and a reminder that if you don't make it up to the Premier league you'll stagnate and drop in the end.

Sheffield United slipping up at the vital moment giving Leeds a chance to take advantage.

Norwich all but promoted surely ?

Are any of the clubs challenging for promotion going to be able to make the impact wolves have in one season? Any of them financially powerful or got links / pulling power to bring in top players?

    Leeds the most likely?

Leeds not even make it. They re currently losing 2-1 at home against 10 man Wigan. Great to see Leeds United choke.

Ex-hornet Gavin Massey scoring both Wigan goals.

Gavin Massey doing his bit for the greater good. Excellent!! Although I didn't realize Sheffield United were part owned by a Saudi prince. Certainly takes much of the Romance away from it if they get promoted.

Will be great if Leeds stuff this up. Think Villa would do them in the playoffs.

Do Sheffield Wednesday exist solely to frustrate teams on the cusp of the Championship title?

Norwich stuttering over the line a bit but they do like a late goal!

And the other 1 aren't exactly consistent.

    Nerves I guess.

Is the desire of many people to see Leeds fail still rooted in the residual hatred of the Revie team of 50 years ago?

For me, it's just the case that I love seeing massive clubs like Leeds, Villa, Forest, etc trapped in the champ unable to reach the promised land despite their financial advantage. I take great pleasure in seeing clubs like Burnley, HTFC, Cardiff, and ourselves beat and surpass them.

Plus of course, once up, the will probably have the financial clout to stay up reducing the relegation fodder pool.

Possibly, possibly because of their fans and possibly because of their attitude when the greatest England manager that never was managed them.
Their fans hated him and Leeds players downed tools when Cloughie was there and that was and still is unforgivable.

Do you not want the bigger clubs up there for atmosphere and occasion though?

To me, Leeds vs Watford sounds way more watchable than Watford vs Bournemouth.
