Djokovic v Thiem will be a good semi.

As will Medvedev v Nadal,I just would have much fathered Tsitsipas as he plays such an expansive game.
Interesting comments he made post Nadal match.
One of the main reasons players stop playing full time is the isolation they feel. The top players are not experiencing this, possibly for the first time.

    Good match it seems.

Sounds like Thiem had a few chances to win the game earlier before eventually doing it.

Djokovic was very subdued from what I saw and should have won the concluding tie break, having been 4-0 up.

Nadal out and still cannot complete his set of all major tournaments.
Thiem will be the favourite but Medvedev can blow anyone away and he's the form player at the moment.
    Come on the Babolat man!

Early break to Thiem as the elongated Kenny Everett loses his serve from 40-0 and throws in another spectacularly poor smash.

Been the better player and finally broken in the final set - can he hold on.

    Thiem blew that big time.
Kenny bluffed at the net and Thiem missed three gimme passes, one on a break point in the second set for 5-3.
Then proceeded to try and take his forehand up the line to Kenny's best shot, his backhand. Did this twice in losing his serve in the final set and netted on both occasions.
Credit to Medivet but Thiem will know it was his for the taking, not to mention 2-0 up in tie break.
Gives hope to everyone, that Thiem can make so many poor decisions and that Medvedev, with a slappy forehand,a ball toss that goes into the first row of the stands and a smash that a club player would wince at,can be so successful.

That is true - for a set and a bit Thiem was was in control.

Whilst all of you poor souls were suffering the anguish of the Cardiff match we played Harpenden.
This was in the forties league,a title we claimed in March.
We had walloped them 8-0 in that competition and I had a feeling they would strengthen their side. They're used to being the Alpha club and don't take too kindly to beatings!
They added two GB forties players at first pair but we can trump that with Jane,Baa and myself and Sush is no slouch, despite forgetting to wear our new team hoodies and bring Barnaby the black lab puppy!
We triumphed 6-2,much to one of their team's displeasure*.
We split sets with their first pair,Jane having to serve underarm due to a consistent rotator cuff injury. Unlike most females, especially those thirty plus, she has a demon of a serve and a leftie to boot,so her game was greatly reduced.
However her volleying is sublime and all three of my team mates play with such élan and enjoyment that it softened the blow of the football.
So good to compete again and winning AND against Harpenden was even better.
Five out of the eight players were left handed, highly unusual.
    * This lady has just been elected as Hertfordshire's rep on the ngb council. The Herts Executive is almost entirely formed from Harpenden people, all very pleasant but hardly the open and transparent body that the LTA will seek in 2021.
To not let the clubs vote on who is representing them is very archaic and I wished to raise this point at the AGM on Thursday. However as the club chair did not nominate me and despite me tabling a question through the proper channels I was not allowed to contribute. Nor were five other clubs due to this.
The fault as I see it is both with our chair, through not reading the email and the county for being so unbending, especially in these times.
The zoom attendance was very small you would not be surprised to learn.
Two of the three new people for the council withdrew leaving a friend of mine as the only new blood.
She will last six months I think before resigning, probably when they rename themselves 'Harpenden LTA'.
    Unedifying.

Laura Robson is back. Another hip surgery and it's a very long way back for her. I keep wondering with the injuries players pick up that the human body is not designed for such repetitive strain and loading on the musculo-skeletal frame. The same applies to other sports. Despite the advances in all areas of sports medicine we still see an awful number of injuries caused by the constant exertions within a discipline.

    Over training too young usually.
    Laura is a prime example.
Up to four in a row on the Diego challenge!

    Thanks!
As I said on another thread,I was a left winger ( who wasn't ?!) in my school football and Watford Ladies but five days away from my 57th birthday it might be time to adapt!
I don't have any boots but do have a selection of Alice Bands, one of which is yellow!
I don't want to do any heading as my mental capacity is already at a stretch dealing with my inept colleague.
I'm quite keen on an orange segment at half time however and don't mind washing the kit.

Well I knew it was coming.
One of my main tasks this year was to appoint a new coach to help give some energy and enthusiasm to the coaching team whilst I try and educate (!) my Steptoe esque colleague.
We have four decent candidates and were able to appoint 'Stan' in July although due to his contract with his former nearby centre wasn't allowed to begin with us until mid October.
He is an excellent coach. Energetic, enthusiastic, organised and a very good player too.He has done more in three months than the other twit could achieve in three lifetimes.
However the centre he left is known to be failing and Covid has worsened their situation.
On Tuesday evening 'Stan' received an email saying he had enticed players from them to us and threatening legal action. Clearly drafted by someone with legal experience it was deeply unpleasant and false. We played everything by the book and the players had approached the coach not the other way around.
'Nursie' ( some of you will recall as doubles partner to 'El Faggo') is a top lawyer and also has lessons with 'Stan". She has drafted a repost and is very dismissive of the attempt to frighten the poor man.
The woman behind this has managed to upset all of Hertfordshire tennis and probably more besides.
Very petty and totally without foundation.
Typical of the small minded and jealous sentiments that pollute GB tennis.

Premature I'd say for someone who spent one year on the ITF council before resigning.

In an effort to resolve an IT problem with an online coaching course I have now collected more LTA staff members than Henry VIII and Nick Bollettierri had wives!
None of them have solved the issue and I think a couple have gone into hibernation.
