    Wrong!
Tsitsi beats Garin and plays Rublev in the final.

Rublev wins 7-5 in the third.
Evans loses in five to Nishikori.

    Impressive win for Sinner.
    Coming on leaps and bounds.

Murray blasted off court by Stan, not helped by placing himself in the third row of the president's box.
Can't play Stan from that far back.
    Coco's serve is a dog's dinner.

Konta, showing all the feel of a guillotine, out in straight to Gauff.
    0/3 for Brits.

    That is a shame.

Tbh with the likely weather this could be a bit of a farce.

Azarenka definitely not impressed with the weather, although funniest moment was Murray moaning at BOTH spectators on Chatrier for talking!

Watson remains of the GB players.

Rublev and Tsitsi come back from two sets down to win.
    Djokovic instraight v Ymer.

Shocking over rule by the umpire in the Trevisan Gauff match, fortunately it didn't influence the result as the qualifier defeated Gauff.
Zverev in five v Herbert who had enough chances to win.
Serena withdraws with an Achilles problem that originated at Flushing. Time is running out for the second greatest female player ever.

I'll find it thoroughly depressing if either Nadal or Djokovic overtake Federer's slam record.

Still hoping Fed can grab one more next year. Other than that praying for Thiem and the "new gen" to finally take over. Thiem the only one with any chance of winning RG.

  13. I Blame Pozzo

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

Sorry Nath but I'd be amazed if Nadal or Djokovic aren't victorious at RG and every chance one or both of them will overtake Federer.
It would be an astonishing effort for Thiem to win in Paris given how short a break it has been since Flushing.

The pretenders have hardly shone in recent years. Some have come and gone like Dimitrov. Others have gone off the rails like Kyrgios. And some despite the hype were never going to be in the same class like Zverev or Nishikori. Watched Pliskova this morning. Dull as ditchwater I am afraid to say.

Pliskova is a great example of a ball striker and not a tennis player, many of them in the female game.
Nishikori is older so shouldn't fall into the Next Gen category. He is a major finalist but a male version of Pliskova, albeit KP has a better serve.
Zverev is also now a major finalist and is improving although slowly.
Augur Aliassime and Tsitsi remain the best of the new bunch I'd say with Shapovalov also very capable despite his loss today.

Brilliant win for Hugo Gaston 6-0 in the fifth v Stan. A good day for France as Caroline Garcia beats Elise Mertens 5 in the third. Petr Korda's son Sebastien also through so two players outside the top 200 in the last sixteen, such depth.
    Routine for Halep,Thiem and Nadal.

Dear IBB I bow to your superior knowledge of the game as you watch it, play it and I believe are involved in some degree with the tennis bodies in this country. As I said before along with some others I just don't enjoy the sport as much anymore. The amount I do watch is minimal compared to when I was a child in the late eighties watching Becker, Stich, Edberg in the mens game for example and still watching the greatest female player of all time Navratilova as well. The touch and artistry have been eroded from the game which why it is for me certainly still a pleasure to see Federer about. As we may have discussed before artistry in sport has in many ways been replaced by the aspect of strength and brute force of mechanical repetition.

It is why I smile when I see a Datsyuk or Messi, the Fijians in rugby, even Kyrgios, the grace of a Chorkina in gymnastics or Plushenko on the ice compared to what I see now in these sports for instance. Some sports do not allow for aesthetic expression like swimming or throwing a javelin but in those that do something is being lost.

As Herr Flick would say "this is true"!
Not too many artists out there,Barty and Tsitsipas and Kygios when he's not faffing about!
Lots and lots of brutal hitting in both games,Medvedev,Khachaov,Rublev,Augur Aliassime and almost all of the female tour.
The most relevant aspect of this is the advance in string technology in the last twenty years,my own sponsors Babolat are to the fore in this with RPM Blast which many favour. An absolutely murderous string that ruins your arm and benefits the physios. I used it for a couple of years but switched to Excel which is much softer and has a great deal more 'feel'.
Nevertheless each string manufacturer will have similar string and it allows players to pulverise the ball into submission. Try being artistic with that!
Great win for Altimaeir over Berettinni in straight.
I can see that Tsitsi v Bedene, that most transparent of GB converts a few years ago, will clash with the Reading match unless Pablo Carreno Busta can win in three v Batista Agut.

Bedene made it in the doubles as well. Might feel a little leggy not that it will change the outcome much I think.

Bedene ; a very expensive new Brit for the LTA a few years ago.
The federation can easily waste funds without the help of flimsy Davis Cup cases brought to the ITF.

Tsitsi impressive for a second match in a row and importantly conserving energy.
Djokovic clearly has a table booked for 8.30pm Paris time!

Swiatek showing lots of elan and panache in the early moments against Halep.

Swiatek demolishes Halep in a performance of power, poise and variety.
    Very impressive.

    Bertens out too.

Tournament could really be wide open now.

Yes Kvitova will fancy her chances but Swiatek on that display will take some stopping.
Kenin in the same half as PK and she is annoyingly efficient and equally annoyingly American, screeching and shouting like a harpie and has the Stars and Stripes cosmetics on her bat.
Sinner dealing with an ailing Zverev and Nadal toying with Korda.

Sinner v Zverev is very very dull.
Great ball striking but no variety,no width no chanes of spin or pace. Very repetitive and one dimensional.

    Superb comeback by Hugo.
Never seen anyone drop shot so well,so often from behind the baseline too.
Can the meagre crowd sustain him to glory?
Admirable guts that Man Utd players would do well to copy.

Thiem in five but Gaston will be one to watch.
Plays Diego the pocket rocket next.

  34. I Blame Pozzo

Kvitova in two and Tsitsi in straight against Dimitrov in a stylish match that hinged on the second set tie break.
Plays Rublev next in a repeat of the Hamburg final where he served for the title.

  35. I Blame Pozzo

    I Blame Pozzo First Team

Djokovic in straight and probably to play PCB in a repeat of the New York episode.
Last home player out in Ferro to Kenin.
