Sunday was a very pleasant change.
Hazelwood played Lowlands, from Eastcote/Pinner in the Middlesex Cup.
What thoroughly friendly, polite, honest bunch they were. Quite a change from the brats and mad old bats that we usually play!
If you live in that area and are looking for a club,I'd recommend them heartily.
    Lovely bar too!

Lowlands was at the bottom of my garden when I was growing up in Eastcote.

Very nice area, two mobile homes in different drives.Baa nearly hit one with a bounce smash!
We're playing Harpenden on Sunday in a 40s match, that will correct matters no doubt Hb!
Sinner creates a small upset in Milan beating Tiafoe in Next Gen event.
They're playing 'Fast Four'. Best of five sets, first to four,no ad deuce, receiver's choice, tie break to seven if three all.

Just booked tickets for Sunday's evening session at the O2 to see Federer.

    Life long dream achieved!

    Good advice,thanks,I'll leave now!
Excellent, enjoy that.I see he plays the mechanical Thiem,a great contrast in styles.
For a minute just watch his footwork. The best example of what I call 'appropriate movement'. He doesn't always move a lot and sometimes appears lazy but he moves the correct amount when required.
    Very feline.
De Minaur and Sinner have 2/2 so far in Milan.

Well, after the long years of waiting, that was horrendously disappointing. Federer was just awful, I can't remember seeing him play much worse! Typical.

The sands of time are catching up with Federer at last.
His body is not able to take the rigours of constant play. Having two weeks off and playing a grinder like Thiem was always going to be tough.
He will still have tournaments where he produces his magic but they will reduce. They have to,he's nearly 40!
Djokovic meanwhile allows Berretini three games.
    Harpenden 0
    Hoddesdon 8.
We played in one of their bubbles and the best bit was watching the gulls tottering about on the top of the dome!
Their feet looked like little leaves!

    Tsitsipas beats Medvedev 7/6 6/4.
He has cured his errant ball toss and served brilliantly.
His strategy of keeping the points short and mixing it up worked well to finally defeat the world number 4.

Nadal beaten - wonder how fit he is ?

Claims he is ok but it didn't look like it.
Abdominal injury is difficult for a tennis player, the core and surrounding area form the foundation of every shot, especially someone as manual as Nadal. There is no bone for the physio to press on either. Tricky.

Federer beats Berrettini, although MB was better than at Wimbledon.
Thiem defeats Djokovic in a tie break third set 7-5.
Djokovic v Federer for the second spot then.

Quite a comeback by Nadal from 5-1 and match point down !

Found some form and fitness when needed the most .

I didn't see much of it but Medvedev will kick himself to lose two breaks of serve with his delivery,he usually gets two free points per game.
Tsitsi impressive again v Zverev and joins Thiem in the semi finals.
Some talk about Zverev looking at his phone on court which he denies. Devices are forbidden on court. They are too at Hoddesdon, not that my colleague takes any notice!

The O2 crowd will be pleased as Federer beats Djokovic and goes through .

Just when you think RF might be on the downwards spiral he pulls out the old tricks .

Could well be Federer v Nadal tomorrow.
Would Tsitsipas rather face Thiem or Federer?
He's beaten both but an interesting thought going into today's match.

So its the kids v the old Master in the semis:

    Tsitsipas v Federer
    Zverev* v Thiem.

*He'll hopefully not get booed for winning this time!

Hopefully Tsitsi has something in reserve to play Federer.
Federer the favourite and Thiem to reach final you'd expect.

Tsitsi prevails and makes Federer look what he is:
Not old but definitely older,a little slower and way down on his serving percentages.
The crowd slightly nauseating in their genuflection to Federer,to the point of wetting themselves whenever he won a point.

Federer definitely looked his age today. Tsitsipas obviously played well so fair play to him, deserved it, but after such a brilliant performance against Djokovic, Federer was back to woeful again.

He's still capable of magic and incredible performances, but the consistency is clearly fading. The amount of errors off the forehand and lack of composure on big points was quite unbelievable.

Next year looks like it could be the year the younger lot finally start to take over.

In truth,Federer has always shanked a vast number of forehands, especially on the clay against Rafa.
No surprise that he did so against Tsitsi,as the Greek, like Nadal, puts a lot of work on the ball and Federer rarely backs off,so his timing has to be perfect.
I think Henman made a valid point in that the current crop of young players,Tsitsi,De Minaur,Felix AA,Shapovalov,Tiafoe,Sinner are better placed to succeed than the likes of Dimitrov,Nishikori,Raonic etc.

Zverev chokes again and then shows a little petulance.
Tsitsi v Thiem tonight and Venus/Klassen v Herbert/Mahut in the doubles.
Thiem's big match experience should hold him in good shape but I shall be waving my Greek flag for Tsitsipas!

Very good match and excellent performance by Tsitsipas - particularly in the 2nd set .

Held out in the tie break too .

    YES!
Tsitsi hangs in there and wins ATP.
Huge talent, plays with such elan and freedom.
    An inspiration to us all.
Hazelwood beat Putney in the National Premier League.
Four 45 plus v four twenty somethings!
    Come on the oldies!

    Davis Cup week in Madrid.
GB in a group with Netherlands and Kazakstan which is a lot easier than most,Italy Canada and USA for example.
Canada beat Italy 2-1 with Pospisil beating Berrenntini and Shapovalov defeating Fognini.

I felt sorry for the dutch lad.
    4-1 up in the third,choked.
    4-1 up in the tiebreak,choked.
Canada give a walkover in the doubles and this could impact other teams.
Italy v US finishes at 4am Madrid time, ridiculous. It's all very well changing the format but that's two consecutive nights that there's been an early morning finish.

GB to play Germany in the quarters today, having beaten Kazakhstan 2-1.
I can see Edmund playing singles again and Murray returning as the doubles will be tough as German pair won Roland Garros this year.
Canada first team into semi finals after defeating Australia last night. Vasek Pospisil, returning after a torrid 2019 due to injury,is the player of the tournament so far.
Serbia and Spain looking strong too.

GB through to the semi finals after beating Germany 2-0.

Edmund winning in straight sets and Dan Evans in a 3rd set tiebreak .

Spain with Nadal next or Argentina .
