They've signed a deal. If they're getting upset about piracy then do something about it unless the Premier League are complicit in supplying feeds to the pirates I don't see how they can back out of their agreement.

What it does do of course is jeopardise any future negotiations. I would hope our financial planning is not dependent on us retaining Premier League money as that future looks dodgy on more than one front.

It's about time they made club feeds available by subscription on-line. At a modest price, legal and of a decent quality it would kill the pirates off overnight.

    Amazon will do that soon.

Championship teams are already doing this for mid-week games and from what I know it seems to be working well. It's the future for sure.

The more I think about it the more I think it's a TV company realising they've paid too much and want out of a contract.
    A touch of the ITVdigitals?

  6. I engage the services of a certain piratical supplier; not because I can't afford Sky / BT, but because Watford are hardly ever on. If feeds were available to Watford (away) games I would happily spend a reasonable amount- £15 per game wouldn't put me off. Burnley or Newcastle being a case in point, I can't justify the time involved.

Only for outside UK or VPN users on a Saturday though. The Sat 3pm blackout still applies.

Plus, it's working well from a technical perspective but it has completely facked off all the 'don't you know how big we are?' clubs in that division. The Leeds, Forests etc wanted to set up their own in-house versions, and coin it in, but the EFL flogged the rights to another provider and Sky instead. The trouble is although the bigger clubs would have the proceeds to pull together quite a decent online streaming service, most clubs wouldn't. I'm not sure we would outside the PL.

    Agree with all of that.

Though also the figure in question isn't as huge a concern as the headline tries to make out.

Their UK sports deal is for £650mil, the majority of which is football, so say £500mil, over a three-year duration, so £167mil, divided between 20 teams, so only £8.3mil for us per season.

Okay, it's still a decent amount, but not one that could cripple us, and as you say it firstly seems unlikely they can get out of any existing arrangements anyway, and worst case it could mean just a marginal percentage shaved off that in any future deals if they manage to get their way in any future negotiations.

If we do end up being relegated, we will have to re structure a bit regardless. Parachute payments only last so long, and we would have to sell the big names on to make sure we can start life back in the lower tier with a future at least.

Whether or not Gino injects more funds to help is uncertain. We need to balance whatever we do so carefully, and not waste millions on Superstar midfielders.

If we acrually do stay up, it will be a boost, but if the defence is neglected further next season especially if we are relegated, there is a chance we could do a double whammy relegation lije Sunderland did.

    Premier League Network:

£29.99 a month - all games live for one chosen club.

£49.99 a month - every game, every club live.

    Done easy peasy.

Offer it to Sky, Virgin & BT for £15 a month on top of their sports packages. Infrastructure and security already in place, just need to supply the feeds.

Yeah, that's why I specified mid-week games ;) Half of the PL games don't seem to be at 3pm these days anyway, usually an early Saturday game, late Saturday game then sometimes 4 games on a Sunday!

They don't need to pull anything together. There are plenty of third-party services that could be made fit for purpose.

I mean, there are porn "stars" doing paid streams out of their own homes. Difficult to imagine the club can't compete with that!

Yeah it would be the streaming aspect rather than her other area of expertise. Watford are quite used to getting ****ed by now.

Yep. If you're going to repeatedly get blown away by the opposition, you might as well get the process absolutely spot on by consulting the expert.
