Supporting A Football Team - What's The Point ?

McKinley I'll grant you was exceptionally poorly handled. Although iirc Duxbury also apologised publicly to him and for once communication around something was pretty strong.

The rest knew the score. Of course, thanks to a relentless sports news environment and unprecedented exposure of every little rumour and detail, we know a bit more about some of the (alleged) goings on around their departures. But do you genuinely think stuff like this hasn't been part of football culture for decades? I'm certain many an owner of this club has been involved in a shady deal or broken promise over the years. Rows over bonuses are as old as the hills - just rarely aired at the time in public in previous eras.

While we get all het up about the dramas, and talk about the club being embarrassed, the (sad) reality is the news cycle has already moved onto the next hullabaloo at the next club.

Of course they won’t , they never will supporting Watford . There will always be more lows. Though arguably getting relegated from the premier league is not really particularly low in Watford’s history

Relegation isn't so much the low point here. It's the way it's been handled from the top since the cup final. A lack of investment in the squad. A lack of respect to the paying supporters (no show issue). A lack of communication with the supporters, not a word from the owners/Duxbury since we've been in trouble this season. The sacking of Pearson which was handled poorly. The effort or should I say lack of by the players.

Theirs so many reasons as to why this is a low point in the history of supporting this club.

I really don’t think this is a low point at all .
So a few bad things have happened , as they do from time to time . This is not a low point in the history of the club ( Although maybe you’ve only supported the club for 8 years then I guess it is abd you are right )

Supported them for 24 years & it feels like a low point. We're all allowed to feel differently about things though.

When we went down the 3rd tier, our only signing was Talboys. I still remember going to Bournemouth and Crewe very proud of the team. Contrast this to now. I cannot stand the playing squad, the owner or the technical director. In terms of my pride in the team this is definitely a low point. I can't stand any of them.

I understand what you're saying, but it's not correct IMO. Supporting a lower league team is no easier than supporting a top team. I supported Burnley in 1986-87 when we had to win the last game to avoid relegation to stay in the league and to stay in business, and believe me, it wasn't better than PL relegation.

The thing about lower league football isn't that it's easier. I follow Accrington Stanley when Burnley aren't at home and Stanley are, and it's a lot less pressure - not because it's lower league, but because I don't really care who wins. It's nice if Stanley win, but ho-hum if they don't. That's why there is less pressure. For the diehards, it matters just as much as Watford to you and Burnley to me. They get just as depressed about losing and just as high about winning, and they (like us) know they have no chance of winning the league at present because they're in league 1 with Sunderland, Ipswich, etc.

Of course, Accrington Stanley (like Burnley) know when they have a good manager, and they stick to him!

Yes so For you it’s a low point in one particular way

ok so we obviously want different things from supporting a football team . You want to be proud of the team, even though they finish mid table in
The third tier . I enjoy seeing us play in the top flight and mixing it with the big boys , after experiencing So many years of mediocrity in he 90s and 2000s. And you despise any owner of the club who tries to get us into top flight and keep us there .

I guess we are just polls apart.

I agree we are , so you feel it’s a low point but in reality it isn’t actually a low point .

**** me I'm not enjoying the prospect of playing the scum next season...bottom of the Championship is ******* than the Premier League for a reason, but they seem to have bags of spirit, the kind I wouldn't back the bones of this squad to match

Not over yet chaps as much as it might seem like it is As the old cliche says its not over till the fat lady sings ! Arsenal will play their reserves so who knows Watford could snatch 3 points.

Anyway I support a rollercoaster team & feel your pain just look how shlt we've been LLLLLLL

Anyway as most of you hate Palace I will have a grin on my face what ever happens safe In the knowledge "we're better than you we're better than you, we're Crystal Palace we're better than you :)

Chins up & keep the faith
