17 year old Nigerian winger Ibrahim Sunusi is currently in Watford. He was supposedly going to sign for a Danish side when his contract at Nasarawa United ended and he still may do. He's decided to pay the club shop a visit though so that's a sure sign he's joining because that's how it works, right? He's a high scoring winger and nicknamed 'The Bull'. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ibrahim-sunusi/profil/spieler/672502
Already a full international at 17. One to keep an eye on. No doubt he knows Tom Dele from the Nigeria U23
That's why I posted, he seems to have some talent/promise and we know the Pozzo's like a young foreign player from left field - or right wing in this case. I wonder if he'll officially sign for his next club when he turns 18 in October.
He was joint top scorer in the Nigerian PL season 2018/19. It appears he already left his Nigerian club when his contract expired at the end of that season last summer. So he's played almost zero football for a whole year. The only reference I could find to what he's been doing since then is "training in Keffi". He has had to wait because supposedly he couldn't sign a pro contract in Denmark until 18. Maybe we've stolen a march on the Danish club since then. Either that, or he could just like the club because he was in the Nigeira U23s squad last November with Dele-Bashiru? He's also predominantly meant to be a right-winger - Sarr replacement? https://www.goal.com/en/news/npfl-t...-to-leave-nasarawa/1cgxkbqlh33iq157jzqf8iank1 https://scorenigeria.com.ng/new-amokachi-sunusi-ibrahim-set-to-join-danish-club-agent/ Where did you find that photo of him btw?
They were in the U23 squad together for 3 matches last November - Sunusi came off the bench in the first match and started the other two. D-B only got off the bench in the third match. Sunusi's two "full international" caps were for a "Nigeria B Team" in the qualifying rounds for a regional international tournament (West African Cup of Nations) which none of the countries bring their big players to play in (they seem to just pick Africa-based players for the tournament). https://www.brila.net/togo-4-1-nige...tions-championship-hope-hangs-in-the-balance/
Look forward to this lad playing for Las Palmas on loan and then joining an MLS side is 2 years. We can all talk about him in the mean time though of course...
Lets hope he doesn't try and have any fun in his off time either. It'll be a clear sign of a bad attitude.
Before anyone gets excited or jumps to any conclusions, as I said in the original post about him it's probably nothing. Let's not get carried away! As for not playing lowerrous, Covid-19 will have taken months out of any available game time and as he's still only 17 he may have been part of an academy or soccer school in Keffi after leaving Nasarawa Utd. I've no idea how young players are connected to clubs in Nigeria so it may look worse than it seems. As for the picture, his name came up connected to a search I was doing on-line (one of many which usually come to nothing) and after following a trail & several links I found someone who seemed to suggest he and Watford were connected. I asked if he'd signed for us and I was sent that picture. Now that could mean two things as far as I can see. 1: He's in the country and is merely visiting Watford so went to the club shop as a regular member of public. Or 2: The person I messaged can't tell me he's signed/going to sign for Watford as it's too early and cannot be made official yet so sent me the picture as a tease. But I thought it worth posting as he seems to have made an impression in his short career in Nigeria. Who knows, it may well be nothing.
https://scorenigeria.com.ng/exclusive-u23-star-sunusi-ibrahim-heads-back-to-watford/ Will soon be heading back to Watford, with the transfer being facilitated by a representative of Iggy. Was recently on trial, which will be why he was at the club shop (good work Recluse).
Didn't even realise the club shop sold kitchen electronic goods* now. Hope we get a good warranty. The appliance of science etc *originally typed "white goods" but thought that might get me into a world of racist pain.....
Probably in Watford on other business, had a bit of time to kill so went for a walk round the town center. As you do.
Look lads, £2 million is a great price, you wouldn’t get that for Lionel Ainsworth. Pozzos have played a blinder here + it will allow us to hold onto Cathcart for the league 1 play off push
Help me out Jumbo as i'm feeling old. What is COG please? I keep seeing it on here and keep thinking "Cost of Goods"
He's not South American though. We generally loaned South American players to Spain because they'd get an EU passport quicker. However, with them also being Latin, staying in Spain would then be more of a lure for many of them rather than coming to England. Both Ighalo and Success were happy to come to England and then stay. English football is probably more popular with Nigerians.
He would have supposedly been 16 for the vast majority of the season. Most sources list his age now as 17. Though randomly this article claimed he was 19: https://www.busybuddiesng.com/npfl-...n-udoh-on-the-goal-scoring-chart-after-md-16/ He does at least look vaguely the age he's meant to be, whichever it is.
There's an Ibrahim-Ivic joke here somewhere but all this transfer drama means I don't have the energy.
