Is it possible to have a thread hide the identity of posters, although they still need to be registered. Mod's would be able to see them, and possibly everyone with a toggle. My reasoning is that I can't help but feel many threads on the politics section descend into arguments that are mired by preconceptions about posters, also turning into rather petty spats that would be avoided if comments were not linked to an individual. At the very least it would be an interesting experiment.
I don’t think it would make any difference. Most of the regular players have positions, or styles of posting, which are readily identifiable. Perhaps one or two are less obvious but they seem to be the more moderate ones anyway. Anyway, I think ZZ and Moose thoroughly enjoy knocking lumps out of each other!
There's nothing I can see in the settings for this. The only way would I think it could work would be to allow people to log out and then open the section up to non-members to post and given the **** that posted in there by established members there's no way in hell that's going to happen considering it's actually hidden at the moment so as not to put new members off.
Do people not think it will be transparently obvious who is posting what? For example along the lines of You can't trust that Mr Corbyn, I knew of him in 1986, why did he meet that spy, what is he hiding, it is a disgrace and that anonymous poster I disagree with is a hypocrite...
Nah, it's easier to ignore the thread/post if I can see who posted last without actually having to click into it.
Honestly don't see the point. The vast majority of the heated discussion is over what comes later, not the initial post.
Oh, misunderstood. Total anonymity only serves to increase rancor, not diminish it. You might get fewer "feuds" between individuals, but the overall tone will diminish significantly as there is no longer a need to self-censor. Look at 4chan for no better example.
I agree, in general. My thought process was that the people posting will still be Watford fans, and while we're a depraved bunch, not as bad as the open public -- this isn't 4chan or reddit thankfully. Equally, it would be possible for mod's to see the identity of the poster if necessary. This has mainly turned into a thought experiment now as I don't think the site supports it anyway.
