Disgraceful tonight, threatened me twice with the banning garbage for singing and standing. At least 3 people were grabbed by the throats by them too. DISGRACE!!!

    Aidy take note!

Anyone physically touched by any of the stewards have grounds to bring charges of common assault against them..
They are in no way allowed to use any form of physical restraint against anyone unless that person is fighting and then only as a form of defence for themselves or whoever the person is attacking.. i would suggest that you not let it happen.. until someone takes a stand on such things it will continue to happen unfortunately.
They do not have the same powers as the police who also have certain amounts of restraint they are required to show when dealing with the general public, though it would be alot harder to do anything about it if a police officer was to do it.. if they feel that something you are doing is dangerous they are required to get police assistance to take care of the situation unless a serious threat is made against them or any other member of the public at the time.

If that's the case then it's assault. Anyone grabbed by the throat should press charges. There will be video evidence to back up any claim.

Stewards do have a very hard job though and the vast majority do a very good job under difficult circumstances.

Fair play to the stewards - watching the shenanigans at the top of the Rookery was more entertaining than what was going on down on the pitch.:p

Yeah I noticed a gang of 10 greenbacks make their way up to the top of the Rookery after about 15 mintes had been played. Couldn't see what went on though.

Half the bloody green team don't speak English. Two in the Rous tonight were either Poles or Russian.

This is a serious issue that should be raised with the club.
The supporters make the club and shouldnt have to pay good money to be physically assaulted by the people who are there to make sure things are nice for them.
From what I have seen myself in the past and read on a few occassions on here and the official boards when they were available it is far too often that the green team use bully boy tactics to gain order when the person who is in their mind is purely
    A) Freely expressing an opinion
    B) Standing (quite often so they can see whats happening because the person in front is waving a scarf or flag around)
    C) Hurling abuse at a player or official (Which has been a major part of football for as along as I can remember)

It is very rare that you ever see any violence within the fan base at the game so there is absolutely no need for heavy handedness on the part of the stewards.
If the Steward feels a fan is behaving in a way that is not acceptable they should have a word with that person and if they persist ask them to leave if that is what they require to happen, if at that point the fan wont behave/leave then they should ask for police assistance to have that person removed but never should they touch that person as this can be considered common assault.(THEY DO NOT HAVE POLICE POWERS!!)
It is highly likely that if they grabbed a fan (By the throat as mentioned in this thread) that that fan will react, quite often violently and lash out and at that point the fan would then face the threat of being punished by law for the offence that the steward himself is guilty for in the first instance.

its ridiculous. I had the pleasure of sitting at the back in the middle of the Rook last night, and its the people up there that make the atmosphere. I have sat further down in the rook, to either side and in the upper and lower rous, and the back of the Rook beats everywhere else hands down for noise. So what if people want to stand in the back row? its not bothering anyone, so what if people swear? ban that from football and you will have empty grounds. I understand the stewards have a job to do, to keep us all safe, but i think common sense should come into it a little.

Agreed... my most enjoyable games have been when i have sat centre/rear in the rookery.
People swearing at a game is par for the course... all it shows is the true emotion that person feels for the game, if they try to irradicate this completely then you will be left with a totally atmosphere free ground, kinda like Stamford Bridge of late, people will not want to get too excited in case the odd profanity slips out.
Many a time i have been at a game and sworn like a navvy with young kids sitting in front of me, yes i feel bad about it and I most often apologise profusely to the parent and child, but more often than not the parent is ok with it knowing that if you take your child and you sit anywhere other than the family enclosure at a football stadium it is highly likley they will be privvy to such language... this is football after all.. not snooker.
