    Another rumour, another midfielder.

Stefano Sturaro - 25y/o, 5' 9". Central midfielder with Juventus.

    It's quite a long article but the main points are;

He's now behind the newly arrived Emre Can in the pecking order.
Leicester City & West Ham United are just two clubs enquiring after details of his availability but in the last few hours Watford have shown an interest in the player.
Genoa are/were interested but they're after a loan transfer whereas Juventus want a permanent one.
Sporting Lisbon have put an offer in but it has been refused as too little.
It seems certain he will leave Juventus in this window.

I will preempt someone posting the Tancredi Palmeri twitter post that is now flying around Watford twitter that we have bid €20m by stating that he is a well known ******** merchant.

He has been a reasonable player for Juve racking up 90 games for them. He is pretty versatile, sort of like their Cleverley, but worth nowhere near €20m.

Disagree. These two when fit! Both need real competition. He's a very good player in a group of very good players. Pereyra was in the same boat. Would be very pleased if we can pull this off.

Can someone tell me why we’re always linked with the same players as Leicester and West Ham, when we’ve supposedly got the superior scouting network ?

When we identify a player and make it public other teams sit up and take notice and attempt to piggy back off our scouting network, hence we often turn up gems that no one else has noticed because in a lot of cases we have kept quiet about them.

This covert scouting policy is very frustrating for us fans as we want to know what is going on, but probably it is better in the long run for the club as the likes of Leicester and West Ham do not get a chance to jump on our bandwaggon.

I sometimes wonder if we let it be known that we are interested in a player to deliberately get our opponents to go after a pig in a poke, which lets face it quite a lot of players we have allegedly been linked with and supposedly lost out on to other clubs have actually turned out to be just that, and this same tactic has the effect of deflecting other teams away from the players we are actually after.

Alternatively we just have to buy other players that no-one else wants.

We still probably hold an advantage when scouting youth players, but every club now has access to databases of players all across the world. There's not a player playing top level football in Europe that most Premiership sides don't know about

A quick, hard-working, tactically versatile player, Sturaro is capable of playing anywhere in midfield, but is usually deployed as a box-to-box, central, or defensive midfielder in front of the back-line, courtesy of his energy and qualities as a ball-winner, as well as his solid technique, and subsequent capacity to start attacking plays after obtaining possession. Due to his physical attributes and ability in the air, he is also capable of playing as a defender, both in the centre, or on either flank, and has been used as a right-sided attacking full-back or wing-back in recent seasons; he has also been fielded as a winger on occasion.

Regarded as one of the most promising footballers in the world in his position as a youngster, due to his work-rate, stamina, composure, tenacity, strength of character, and ability to read the game, his playing style has drawn comparisons with compatriot and 2006 World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso. Unlike Gattuso, however, Sturaro is also known for his offensive contribution, and his ability to make attacking runs and advance into good positions, which has also led him to be compared to former Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal. Although right-footed, Sturaro is also capable of distributing and striking the ball accurately with his left foot.

This is under 'Style of Play' in his wikipedia profile. Would be happy if he could do all that. Sounds like a better Capoue.

  26. Yep. I seem to remember Sherlock saying that other European Clubs would sniff out the Pozzos approaches to other teams and jump in with bids Ude could not match, and this led to some creative management of their enquiries.

I get the idea too that this has led to Gino doing people 'favours' by allowing his 'interest' in a player to be leaked to generate interest from other parties, like, say, Juan Iturbe. True or not I don't care. I still find the idea amusing.

Pretty close UEA but you don't get the prize ;) They probably just put the word out to SSN or some random jouno, why pay for an advert when the media will give you free publicity
