I've been wondering if the club are planning to add the Watford FC lettering to the outside of the Vic Road corner/shop extension like those dodgy pics that surfaced a while back showed. I think it needs something there, as it looks a bit bare at the moment. Also the vertical sign. No idea if that will actually happen though.

I think these are the actual things. I cannot stress enough how good they will make you lawn (any size) look. Cheers for this @Stevohorn , once I've got my hands on some of these the flymo's going in the bin.

The modern way is to have entirely interchangeable units.. like these http://www.jungle-busters.co.uk/Web...moral-Qualcast-Classic-Scarifier-Cassette.jpg
Qualcast had this system on their Suffolk Punch and Balmoral models but these were large expensive petrol driven mowers and i think they too have been discontinued.

Looking around though i see Qualcast do a stand alone lawn rake/scarifyer for under 100 quid http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/qualcast-1300w-scarifier-and-raker---30l-314230
This teamed with their electric cylinder mower http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/qualcast-400w-cylinder-lawn-mower---32cm-310087 and i'd call that job done.

PS Flymo's are great for early cuts, uneven ground and banks.. but not for manicured reasonably flat lawns.

Crossing my fingers that when I return to the Vic in August it has been discreetly expanded into 115,000 capacity mega-stadium, with large swathes of West Watford demolished to make room.

If they can't get the stadium done will you accept the demolition of West Watford only?

It was floating about on Twitter around the time shortly before they started work on expanding the SEJ and corner section/shop. Although it looks very amateurish, apparently it did originate from the architects that presumably designed the structure that stands there now.

As I said above - I wouldn't mind them adding the Watford FC lettering shown in this picture to the back wall of the sensory room that overlooks the shop as it looks a bit bare at the moment. I'd be surprised if they put the verticle sign up though.

That is the original artist impression for the club shop corner. Like most most renderings it doesnt look exactly like the finished product but does give an idea of what it will look like.

It would be great if that tower thing could be built.. would be pretty unique. Plus the lettering would finish it off nicely.
Overall i'd have to say the club has done a fantastic job with the exterior of the stadium.. lots of nice touches to tell you were you are.

The cylinder mowers are very good but I found if the ground has bumps and hollows they aren't so good. Lawn care takes effort and has to be treated as passion.

Weed and feed, a short cut and scarifying has worked wonders this year. I still needed to use a spring tine rake to get all of the will dead grass and moss, there was bags and bags of it. I overseeded and watered it. We also had the really wet spell a few weeks ago. Now I don't cut too short and it looks lush and green.

I personally wouldn't do it in this dry weather as the lawn will look bad for a few weeks until it starts to grow again.

Yeah, fairplay, the stadium plans are achievements are all good, it's just the 'Dr Who' translucent ghost people and cars rendered in the world of the videos they play when you get a strike at particularly old bowling alleys that freak me out!

I'd really like to see them cap the rim of the roof of the stadium to all match up to the way the SEJ stand looks.

It's the yellow brick road leading to the SEJ stand, and the tower will be built, but GT's statue will be on top of our version to rival Nelson's column.

Looking at this pic i feel the need to correct something ive said earlier.
The machine they are using there is a field topmaker and is essentially a turf stripper. When i spoke earlier of a "heavy scarifying" well that was the traditional end of season operation (& one they are still likely to do at smaller clubs/set ups)
Tbf the FTM can be used as a heavy scarifyer depending on the depth you set it to but i can see now that they have gone reasonably deep & this is a turf strip operation. It was a hard to see this from earlier pics.

and i quote.. "In particular, the Koro range of equipment, like the Field TopMaker (FTM), has somewhat revolutionized the industry. The Koro FTM can strip organic material off the surface to leave a graded bare soil seedbed or to leave crowns, stolons and rhizomes of the desirable grass. This latter practice is referred to as fraize mowing"

There's a couple of new, very good aerial shots of Vicarage Road on this Twitter account:

I won't post the pics here as I don't know if I have permission, but if you like that kind of thing, check them out (you don't need a Twitter account, the tweets are public so just click the link).

Love the turn this thread has taken. Gonna read back through all the info and get stuck into my awful lawn at the weekend.

It's been decimated by building work over the winter (drainage channel dug, boards over it) and there's a big mound in the middle that I'd like to level. I'd also like to tip the ratio of about 3:1 in favour of moss and weeds, back to grass.

I bought a rotary mower a couple of years ago. I considered a cylinder but I think I'm a long way from the sort of bowling green surface that merits one.

I'm still expecting to return to the Vic and be astounded by a 100 foot tall 40,000 seater stadium with safestanding throughout the Rookery End and three tiers on both the SEJ and GT stands ....I can only dream....

If you'd seen a recent (repeat of course) episode of The Persuaders with Tony Curtis(!) standing in the centre circle of an early 1970s Vicarage Road, then a Horns fan from that era would be astounded by how the ground looks today! So give it another 40 or so years and your dreams may become reality....

I said earlier in the thread that I wouldn't post these pics as technically I don't have permission - but I know a lot of people aren't on Twitter and won't look there so will miss them. This guys Twitter account (iAmAHornet) quite often posts up-to-date aerial pics of Vicarage Road, which I admit I'm sad enough to find interesting (see them here https://twitter.com/iAmAHornet/media), or here:

That last picture really shows what a good job has been done on improving the visual appearance of the stadium.

Hopefully this year we'll hear of the next expansion. Duxbury said they'd be having a year off to have a breather and that was last season.
