Squad & Manager Quality

Taking a brief moment away from my (supposed!) usual doom and gloom, I'd like to say how pleased I now am with the current situation with the regards to our footballing staff.

Only a couple of weeks ago - whilst content with our goalkeeper and defence, and very happy with our midfield - I had real (and very vocal) concerns for our attacking options and lack of pace and whether or not we would or could bring in the required quality to at least avoid being dragged into a relegation battle, and the club has since completely resolved this and in fact exceeded my expectations with the signings of Richarlison, Gray and, seemingly, Carrillo.

I'd still love to see a left back and centre back come in (a goalkeeper - Karnezis - would be a bonus in my opinion) but the squad is now shaping up to look to be potentially the most talented and most full of potential we have ever had at the club. We have some genuine and serious class and ability in the likes of Pereyra and Doucoure, goals in Gray and Deeney, some insane potential in young but already good players like Chalobah, Hughes, Success and Richarlison, as well as some other very decent players in Prodl, Janmaat (when fit), Cathcart, Cleverley, Femenia, Zarate (if he ever plays for us again), Femenia, Capoue (yes, he is good when he can be arsed) and hopefully Carrillo.

The cherry on top of all of that is Marco Silva being our new manager. It's early days but this is a respected manager with a good track record, a likeable, passionate persona and an attractive style of football. Plus he can speak at least 15 words of English which makes him at least 15 times better than Mazzarri.

Another couple of signings to strengthen the defence, no injury disasters like last season and keeping hold of our best players until the end of the window and we could be in for a very interesting, exciting season.

Agreed, hoping for a top half battle rather than a peer over our shoulder relegation one. Really want a decent cup run or two as well.

If we could crack top half several times last season under that chain-smoking Italian Alec Baldwin doppelganger, surely Silva will be able to guide us to a top half finish with this squad? I would agree, it's very decent.

Squad is decent, manager is decent. Now when can we start the puns?

We'll be bottom half again as not addressed defensive issues.

    As it stands.

Still amazed anyone really thought we'd go into the new season with the players we had a few weeks ago, ye with little faith.

We'll do well this season, the rest of the teams below the top 7 or 8 are complete and utter dross, should be enough to push us into the top 10 and see us pick up some good results on the way, I expect us to cause an upset or two this season against the 'big boys', Chelsea being the first.

Also had a dream that Richarlison scored a brace tomorrow so put your houses on it.

My only worry is that when he sees their stadium he'll think it's a pre-season friendly.

We had a strong squad last yea, just a very poor coach and probably the most horrendous injury problems we have experienced in he last 40 years

We should be fine in the league & I confidently predict that we will play at Wembley at least once this season
