Sportsmen / sportswomen that you love to hate

I'm not sure whether there's already a thread on this, but ……….

Last week 4 of us were discussing our least favourite sportsmen / sportswomen.

The other 3 all had Ronaldo at the top of their list (I don't dislike him as much as they do). Amongst the other names that were mentioned (in no particular order) were :

Lewis Hamilton
Serena Williams (a personal one of mine, because I've never forgiven her treatment of the line judge in the US Open in 2009)
John Terry
David Warner
Roger Federer
Luis Suarez
Patrick Reed


Any others ?

 

Why on earth do you dislike Federer?

 

I don't . The guy who does so recognises that Federer is a fantastic tennis player but considers him to be extremely smug.

 

Ah, sorry - thought it was your list. I don't agree with that at all, he seems quite humble and grounded to me.

I used not to like Tiger much but his recent travails seem to have taught him a bit of humility. Patrick Reed is a good call.

Trying to think of English cricketers I don't like. I was never terribly keen on Dominic Cork but can't quite put my finger on why.

 

Federer was very smug when Murray beat him for the first time. said something akin to 'well he won today but he'll not win too much playing that way'. Wozniacki said something similar when Makarova or Safarova beat her at Wimbledon this year.
Murray is always very fair to opponents as are Nadal and Djokovic I think.
Never liked that Sunderland player who crippled Gifton. Can't recall his name.

Joey didn't cripple Gifton. It was Paul Butler.

 

Paula 'Quitter' Radcliffe. I've never forgiven her for pulling out of the Athens 10,000m just because she couldn't win. Many other athletes would have given their right arm to have the opportunity to compete in an Olympic final.

Just remembered - Kevin Pietersen was mentioned too.

 

I am no fan of Freddie Flintoff or Bradley Wiggins.

I have a long list of British athletes who have been around for years, getting mentions, achieving nothing. Lisa Dubriski, Jenny Meadows, Harry Akins Arite (No idea of that's even close) and my favourite of all time, Kelly Sotherton.

To be fair to this group, they are all triers who were probably just never quite good enough. I have a special dislike for those who were clearly the best in the world, but never won the Olympics. Step forward Colin Jackson and Paula Radcliffe.

 

How could I forget him? Great cricketer when in the mood, but total ******. Mind you, he did win us the Ashes in '05.

I think you're a bit harsh on Jackson, Moog. It's pretty easy for something to go slightly wrong in the high hurdles, which can make all the difference between winning and not.

Wiggins is a bit of a ****, I agree. What about Victoria Pendleton? Quite cute, but not nearly as good as she (and others) thought she was. Her attempts to forge any sort of a career subsequently (horse racing, climbing mountains) have been amusingly ineffectual.

 

Floyd "Money" Mayweather. Odious individual.

But I wouldn't tell him that.

 

Dele Alli

Made even worse by they ridiculous ginger highlighted hair at the world cup. Everything that is wrong with so called role models to young kids in the England team

 

Mo Farah. My mate deals with him on a regular basis through his work and he is a complete arse hole. Always moaning and blaming people for things that are his fault. That and he's jacked up on Quorn and steroids.

 

Not keen on Ian Poulter.

Mr IBB and I revisit 'The Sunshine Boys' doctors/dentist sketch on a regular basis. I take it down/ place Haha horizontal ,he puts it back and so on.
It's quite therapeutic in a juvenile way!

Andy gray, Ian rush, Roy kean and mo farah, don’t know why I dislike farah just something odd about him

 

It must annoy the Aussies hugely that two of their elite players,Tomic and Kygrios, are such underachievers and general berks.
Everytime I watch Kygios and see Hewitt in his box,I wonder how he doesn't flatten him!

 

Trescothick seems a prize ****.

 

Unfair but her running style made me feel ill.

 

Pendleton seems prize winningly needy.

Not at all unfair and I feel quite strongly about this. I appreciate that her stomach problem at the time prevented her from performing properly and she was bitterly disappointed, but she was quite capable of jogging round at the back of the field and completing the race. To drop out as she did was the act of a very selfish person which disrespected many of her fellow, lesser, athletes.

 

OK, I will find out where you live, RD, and I will come round and do something unspeakable on your patio while you are away on one of your executive trips.
