True but on one performance, not all down to Mr Clarke, regardless of his sad personal circumstances I'm unsure about casting my vote this way.

I did put some money on Andy Murray winning at the start of the year as I thought he would come good but apart from beating an under par Federrer he has been largely annonymous.

I respect Phil the Power Taylor for his domination of Darts over the past decade, I played quite a bit myself, but I do not really feel he is a personality and still a little uncertain that the game of Arrows is a sport.

Both Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe have boxed well, Ricky in particular going up a weight and continuing to win, but again I do not feel these people are personalities and have only had a couple of bouts this year.

Beth Tweddle has won more in Gymnasitcs than any previous British gymnast however I do not feel that the sport, or her, have the profile to deserve a win.

I don't feel Button deserves it yet, even though I am a fan and know he won his first race this year against the odds.

I've never heard of the cyclst - sorry.

I'm not really sure that Equestrianananism is really a bona fide sport and certainly doesn't have the profile, so Zara is out.

I think it's difficult this year as there are no outstanding candidates. I'm going to Plump for Monty Panesar. It is a tough decision but I do feel he has performed particularly well this year and is also fulfilling the personality part of the award regardless of his race or religion - and I can't stand cricket;D

    Andy Murray for me.
By far the most improved sportsman and our most likely player to become Wimbledon Champion.
Without doubt i feel he has more potential than Tiger Tim Henman.

This was a difficult choice to make.

    Of my front-runners
Not Darren Clarke because the Ryder Cup Team will get an award.
Not Andy Murray because of patchy success this year and because he has no personality.
Not Beth Tweddle because girls should give up gymnastics by the time they are ten.
Not Monty Panesar if he wasn't considered good enough for the first two Ashes tests.

So, bizarrely for a republican, my vote goes to Zara Phillips who I think has had a very good year, competed under difficult circumstances and won whatever it was after her friend was killed.

I chose Joe Calzaghe due to him being unbeaten for about 9 years, and hes just pure quality when you watch him, his skills and power are unbelievable.

Poll closed as the program is about to start.
According to the collective geniuses here the golfist gets it.

Let's see if the british public can rub two brain cells together and agree.

Helen Rollinson award went to Paul Hunter which was a nice touch.

St Helens earned Team of the Year (Public vote) and Coach of the Year.

Guy who swam the channel for charity earned an award as well.

Roger Federer just pipped Tiger Wood to the Overseas award..if only we had 2 sportsmen like them!

Life time achievement went to Bjorn borg

Not much of a personailty though. I agree with the others but I think on reflection Calzaghe should have won.

To be honest there have been a few people who don't have much of a 'personailty' in the past' named as winners and deserved it to be fair for winning majors/World Champs.
