The man weasel who stated that Richarlison wouldn't have an impact at Watford or the Premier League has now decided that a positive WC for England is a good enough reason to insult a man who's no longer here to defend himself regarding a series of games that took place 25 years ago.

For those too young to remember it at the time - this is a small example of the embedded hatred within the media that GT had to cope with during his spell with England (and at Watford when we started beating their favourite clubs).

Whether you think GT should have done better or was unlucky due to form, injury and retirements is irrelevant - why would you make these kind of public comments about something that occurred a quarter of a century ago whilst his family and many, many friends and fans are still grieving over his untimely death??!!

His praise for that other scumbag, Brian Glanville, says it all.

You know it's a low blow when even a Luton fan defends GT.

I am probably over protective of Graham Taylor and I had no axe to grind with Vickery,at least not before the Chas episode.
For someone who likes to portray himself as a commentator of some gravitas, I would imagine he will regret this utterance.
Thankfully most people have corrected him.
Gamma minus Vickery. Must try harder.

Actually a very good and knowledgeable pundit which is unusual.

I presume he is trying to compare this to when Bobby Robson got us to the World Cup semi finals and we didn't get to USA 94.

Difference is Southgate isn't leaving and we'd a get much easier qualifying groups now than GT had.

At Euro 92 we got 2 draws against France and Denmark before being beaten by the hosts who were inspired in the 2nd half.

Our record in European Championships is pretty poor generally!

All rather crass - its not like GT was the last "bad" England manager is it..

Never seen too much of Vickery. The small number of times I have he says something that turns out to be completely wrong, or he makes an absolute plonker of himself.

In this case, it's the latter scenario.

Just pointed out GT did resign at England manager because he didn't seem to think he had.

GT would have done just as well with the fixtures we had in this World cup I suspect tbh..

It was nice to see a young team sort of flourish but there were flaws too and we all know the first bad run of results for Southgate and the knives will be out from the media.

    Where we could get relegated...

Southgate to be the first man to get a club and country demoted!?

This Vickery chap clearly likes the tippy tap style of football compared to the more attacking progressive style at got GT and others so much success - great if it works but even Glenn Hoddle said England do too much of that at times!

Rather than going on the attack putting pressure on the opposition.

The World Cup is over. The England team can **** off until a Watford player is picked.

As for Tim Vickery, used to know him, he's in South America where he belongs. Couldn't cut it with the big boys.

There was a poor pundit called Vickery
    Who loved all Brazilian trickery
    He hated GT
But it now seems to me
He deserves a degree for his thickery.

Further bile from Vickery as he ***** all over GT's character; nicely shot down by Mirror journalist Mike Walters.

People may not be aware that Vickery is a Spurs fan. A lot of the hatred that came GT's and Watford's way really took off after we beat them 0-1 at White Hart Lane in Nov 82. These simpletons have had it in for him ever since - how dare he bring a team of journeyman and rough diamonds to the homes of Fleet Streets favourites and have the gall to win.

There's a great line at the end of the film Cloud Atlas, delivered by Hugo Weaving, that sums it up perfectly (especially when you consider how GT was treated by the press for the remainder of his management career).

"There is a natural order to this world, and those who try to upend it do not fare well. This movement will never survive; if you join them, you and your entire family will be shunned. At best, you will exist a pariah to be spat at and beaten-at worst, to be lynched or crucified. And for what? For what? No matter what you do it will never amount to anything more than a single drop in a limitless ocean."

Not only does he dig a large GT sized hole,he then proceeds to wallpaper it with mean spirited, incorrect assessments of the man and his teams.

"Liked" for both the post's content and the use of a quote from one of the greatest films ever made BUT you really shouldn't have quoted the first part of the dialogue - you should have included the response:

Vickery still trying to justify his disrespectful comments but only succeeding in outing himself as a deeply unpleasant man hiding behind his fake, clip-on smile.

Brilliant to see Luther, Andrew French and Mike Vince defend the great man (and mention the link between Vickery and Glanville - the agenda this whole diatribe stems from):

Apologies if anybody is getting tired of this - but GT would have defended anyone within the Watford circle (and from outside of it). Now he's no longer able to defend himself, it's up to us to prevent this moron from spreading false information about such a wonderful man.

He (Vickery) has the right to not like Graham Taylor, be it on a personal level or as a manager of England and/or Watford. I've no problem with that.

But to bring Taylor up as the reason England had an advantage just reeks of someone with an axe so large to grind, no stone will ever be big enough to satiate that desire.

I can only presume the shovel he's using to dig himself into that massive hole is of a similar size to his axe.

I used to like listening to his views on football when I regularly tuned into the world football show on 5live years ago.
Now I'm just wondering how many grudges he holds and to what level his bias towards individuals (good or bad) drive his journalistic integrity.

I mean Christ we had McLaren, Keegan, Hoddle, Capello, Eriksson that he could have said were failures with what they had to try and balance it but no he just went personal straight away on GT. Odd and pretty dumb in equal measure.

I do agree with you and Vickery has gone way down in my estimation with his comments. However, to be fair, the point he was trying to make was in comparing England’s situation now with 1990, the two occasions they have made the WC semi-final. So all those other failed managers don’t come into it.
