Personally I do not think Son should have been sent off and I hope Spurs appeal against the decision. It was without out a doubt a horrible injury that the Everton player suffered, but it was more the way he fell that caused the injury than Sons actual tackle, which is why I feel Son should have got a yellow at worse and not red. What do you guys think?
Gomes is one of their best players, I'm well chuffed he's out for the season. Son seemed to get more sympathy than the injured player thanks to his phoney look how upset I am! reaction. Even the everton players were cuddling him. Made me lol and lmao
Ref was going to give a yellow until he saw the seriousness of the injury which was actually caused by Auierer (spelling )
That's my point the seriousness of the injury should not come into it when Red carding a player, it should only be the seriousness of the actual foul committed, and Son's tackle did not warrant a red card IMO.
It wasn't a red, but equally the game is generally in such a sorry state at the moment with officiating and cheating. Son's dive was embarrassing, Sane yesterday, Hudson Odoi last week, GD yesterday...the entire league is full of absolute ****s. They used to be the exception rather than the norm.
Never a red. Even a harsh yellow really. Also deli alle has no arms they must start at his finger nails, got away with it again and when interviewed he was doing his best to not laugh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looked like he may have been fouled as the ball came in. Replay clearly showed in hit his hand in a not natural position. Whatever reason it needs to be communicated to the viewer. The conversation between ref and VAR should be heard. "Just checking for handball there, it appears to have hit his arm" "Might have been fouled/was getting his shirt pulled, arm was/wasnt in natural position, was inside/outside the box. "Clear decision is ..... Hang on Mike's pressed the wrong button again." "Replays are conclusive/inconclusive"
Seems to have been an impulsive over-reaction by Atkinson. It should certainly have been reviewed by VAR, but I saw no evidence that it was. Unless that's why the ref changed his yellow to a red Another example of how we don't know how decisions are being made.
Compare and contrast the general public and professional's reaction towards Son to that of Shawcross after his similarly innocuous tackle on Ramsey.
Anyone who has ever played football knows that raising your arms when jumping for a header is the NATURAL thing to do, in fact if you look in coaching manuals it says to raise your arms to help you to gain height when jumping to head the ball. If that is the case why would anyone say that DA had his arms in an unnatural position
Yes, but didn't he move his arm towards the ball at the last moment? Difficult decision, though, even with many viewings.
Never a red card. I can see why the penalty wasn't given, as when the player handballed it, he was being pushed down by the attacker. It's pretty 50-50 in my opinion, and therefore it should revert to the refs original decision.
Yet again the Premier League have made themselves look silly with the way this was handled at the time and after the event, tying themselves up in knots justifying the way Atkinson and VAR acted or didn’t act and blah blah blah. BORING. Regardless of what the rules do or don’t say, for me personally I think that that tackle from Son should be a red card. He knew exactly what he wanted to do which was to stop Gomes before he caused a threat to Spurs, Son had almost got his hand up apologising to Atkinson before Gomes had hit the ground. This is an extreme example but there is a real trend for cowardly trips and shirt pulls at the minute, it’s one of Manchester City’s key tactics as a first line of defence. With a 50/50 challenge, going in for a header or sliding in on an opponent most players take their own well-being into account and consider whether it’s worth risking getting injured to win the ball. Most of the time it’s fine and players bang into each other knowing they can shake those collisions off 99.9% of the time. Incidents like this one are dangerous because the player without the ball is at no personal risk other than a telling off by the referee. This was a freak accident but Son only has himself to blame. I got badly hurt in an incident almost identical to this one when I was 16, although it was my arm that got smashed to pieces rather than my leg thankfully. Running full clip with the ball, had my ankle booted from behind and sent flying into a player in front of me, such a pointless and twatty thing to do. Probably why I hate seeing this kind of tackle so much!
Awww he meant to hurt him but not badly and he’s weally weally sowwy. The PL are just reacting to the noise now. If they’re doing that now they’ll hopefully do something useful and **** VAR off.
Son didn't 'hurt him'. Gomes was off balance and turned over his own ankle breaking it. Red card rescinded. Correct decision. VAR wasn't even involved in the first instance. Anyone who can't grasp VAR, recognise that it is now improving in its delivery and is undoubtedly here to stay is, I'm afraid, a luddite.
There was a 'whole lot of emotion' going on at the time. On this occasion I'd advise cutting everyone involved a 'bit of slack'. Imagine what might have happened right there and then if VAR had rescinded the red card with Gomes lying on the grass at Goodison with the lower bit of his right leg at right-angles to the rest of it? Atkinson might have simply changed his decision from yellow to red to get Son off the pitch which he was probably quite glad about at the time. Sometimes there's a 'perfect storm'. And this was one of them. The first time this season that I can remember. The dust has now settled, Gomes has had his leg put back together, Son has had his red card rescinded, VAR has done it's job in retrospect and Martin Atkinson should be given every consideration for the change of decision he made at the time. All is now well. Time to move on.
